  • This study is focused on the development of a new muffler. A control valve installed in the exhaust system is operated by torsion springs, and its open angle is controlled automatically corresponding to the engine operating conditions. The experiments were done using an exhaust system simulator having the same pulsation wave frequency and similar pulsation propagation characteristics of a real exhaust system. The purpose of this study is to develop a new muffler system which has improved noise reduction quality and less power loss than conventional mufflers and electronic-control mufflers.

  • This paper presents a case study on the tribological failure analysis of a clutch system for a manual transmission car. The clutch systems are composed of clutch disk, clutch pressure plate, flywheel rubbing surface, coil and diaphragm springs, release bearing and lever, clutch spline and shaft. The purpose of a clutch system is to transmit and disconnect the driving power of engines by frictional farce from a rubbing surface of a flywheel to a clutch disk and clutch pressure plate with a minimum power loss. In this study, many tribological failure cases based on the wear phenomena and thermal distortions have been presented, which are collected from the car repair shop and maintenance center. The triboiogicai failures are mostly come from the driving conditions, overloading of a car, and especially driving style and personal habit of a car driver.

A control valve installed in the exhaust system is operated by torsion springs, and its open angle is controlled automatically corresponding to the engine operating conditions. A control valve and a control muffler sensing exhaust-gas pressure are made f3r developing a new muffler. The experiments were done using an exhaust system simulator having the same pulsation wave frequency and similar pulsation propagation characteristics of a real exhaust system. The purpose of this study is to develope a new muffler system which has improved noise reduction quality and less power loss than conventional mufflers and electronic-control mufflers. Finally the characteristic of noise compared with conventional muffler and muffler sensing exhuast-gas pressure.

  • A spring tension control device is used as a very important part of an twister system. The friction force of tensioner must keep same friction force during winding in package. For satisfy this function, many device used common compression coil spring. In this paper, by using the case-building technique which was based on simple theory that unknown design variables are induced by given input design variables by the designer, design automation algorithm about rectangular section compression springs with elastic characteristic is developed. Four design equation are justified in using of analysis of torsion of straight bar of rectangular section and geometrical condition of coil spring. Four design equation and nine design variables are computed by case-building technique.

  • The deformation of coil spring with noncircular section, which is used in the engine valve of automobiles under the applied load is usually accompanied by sectional warping and additional displacements of geometric center. In this study the isoparametric beam element formulations are modified and expanded to consider these two effects. To verify these formulations, simple torsion tests are made and compared with the analysis results. For the case of the zero-pitch spring, the stress distributions of oval and circular section are coincided with those of the analysis using the solid elements. Cylindrical coil springs with oval section are analyzed. These results are agreed with those of Nagaya.
