A Study on Design of 50kW PMSG for Micro-grid Application (마이크로그리드용 50kW급 PMSG 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the 50kW aerogenerator which is applicable to the microgrid was designed and analyzed by using commercial simulation program Maxwell 2D. Particularly, the suggested PMSG to reduce the cogging torque introduced the offset and skew concept. The suggested optimal value of offset and skew was decided by 2mm and 60 degree of electric angle. The simulation results of the PMSG when load operation condition showed the average harmonic distortion 1.3%, voltage 322.41V, current 94.95A, and iron loss 9.73W, eddy current loss 73.68W, copper loss 3.52kW. The capacity of aerogenerator calculated 61.56kW, and the suggested design process can be applied to higher capacity generator.

  • Squirrel cage induction motor is the main driving system of industrial field and familiar with its use in a large variety of applications. However, many engineer are unfamiliar with the induction generator, even though no difference exists between both machines except for the mode of operation. But an induction generator is commonly used for micro & small hydro power applications due to its simplicity, reliability, low cost and robustness. Input and output of induction motor has turned against at the induction generator operation. Rotation speed of induction generator is small faster than induction motor. As output of induction machines increases with the increasement of speed, so loss is same. Actually, generator efficiency is lower than motor at this condition. If induction generator is connected with mechanical load, total efficiency is decreased. In this paper, we analyzed that input, output, torque and efficiency is different from each other above and below synchronous speed.

  • Iron loss is a possible source of performance deterioration, especially for a torque regulation, in field oriented induction machine. In this paper, study on the model of an induction machine with iron losses, a flux estimation strategy, the design of direct and indirect field oriented controller, a precise torque regulation scheme and the determination of a core lost resistance are discussed. Simulation and experimental results are also included and show the effectiveness of the proposed analysis and the proposed control strategy.

  • Modern automatic transmissions equip torque converters with lock-up clutches to reduce the energy loss of hydraulic systems. Instead of simply engaging the clutch disks, the new technology of clutch slip has been developed to improve the overall efficiency of power transmission. There are two major problems with the clutch slip system. The first is how to keep the slip between the two disks within a small range and the second is when to start or stop the slip. In this paper, the second problem is discussed in view of the vehicle economy. With a simple vehicle dynamic model, the fuel economy is calculated to determine the lock-up strategy. Then the lock-up strategy is developed for a slip schedule.

  • The control algorithm of a new type self-bearing step motor is presented. The motor actuator is used for both motor and bearing functionality without any redundant coil windings or redundant electromagnets. The self$.$bearing step motor layout and its control method are described. A linearized farce-current-displacement relationship is derived. As the result of the unbalance response approach, the constant torque production is possible fur the supply current regulation algorithm. And even if the bearing functionality is added in the motor functionality, no additional current for bearing functionality is possible, and this leads to minimize the net power loss. Also, the unbalance response shows the independent bearing force and motor torque.

  • A new test rig is presented to measure friction losses at journal bearings in a reciprocating compressor. This rig consists of a test bearing, torque sensor, driving motor and loading parts especially for vertical shaft. Friction losses are obtained by measuring torque between motor and test bearing. The experiments are carried out at several rotational speeds and temperatures. The test results are presented and discussed.

  • Voltage controlled current regulated PWM(pulse width modulation) of VSI (voltage source inverter) is proposed. Adopting one degree of freedom, the voltage, the current controller shows much more improvement than conventional ones not using this method. The voltage controller or this proposal needs load's parameters, torque value, rotational speed. This voltage controller is located at converter part which links AC source and DC bus. With this proposed method, duty ratio of the inverter's switching is nearly unity for all speed and torque range. Hence, this method gets many advantages such as reducing current ripple, thermal loss, and noises and improving control performances. Theoretical approach to this voltage-current controller is performed, and the results are presented.

Performance Comparison of PM Synchronous and PM Vernier Machines Based on Equal Output Power per Unit Volume

  • This paper compares the performances of permanent-magnet synchronous (PMS) and permanent-magnet vernier (PMV) machines for low-speed and high-torque applications. For comparison with the PMS machines, we consider two types of the PMV machine. The first one has surface-mounted permanent magnets (PMs) on the rotor and the other has PMs inserted on both sides of the stator and rotor. The PMS and PMV machines are designed to meet the condition of equal output power per unit volume. We analyze the magnetic fields of the machines using a two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). We then compare their performances in terms of the generated torque characteristics, power factor, loss, and efficiency.

  • Conventional P/PI speed controller of today's servo drives should be manually tuned the controller switching set-point by trial-and-errors, which may translate the drive system down-time and loss of productivity. The adjustable drive performance is heavily dependent on the quality of the expert knowledge and becomes inadequate in applications where the operating conditions change in a wide range, i.e., tracking command, acceleration/deceleration time, and load disturbances. In this paper, the demands on simple controls/setup are discussed for industry servo drives. Analyzing the frequency content of motor torque command, P/PI control mode switching is automatically performed with some prior knowledge of the mechanical dynamics. The dynamic performance of the proposed scheme assures a desired tracking response curve with minimal oscillation and settling time over the whole operating conditions. For comprehensive comparison of traditional P/PI control scheme, extensive test is carried out on actual servo system.

Computing EMF of Salient Pole Rotor Type Single Phase SRM (돌극형 회전자 단상 SRM의 유도기전력 산출)

  • Salient pole rotor type single phase SRM(switched reluctance motor) can be use axial direction magnetic flux and radial direction magnetic flux at the same time. Then, it has higher energy density per unit volume and can be lessened the shaft length of motor or exciting magnetic force. Additionally, it's durability is good because it is simple structure and driving device. Prototype of Salient pole rotor type single phase SRM was fabricated by using parameters of three phase SRM and 3D FEM analysis. Also, driving device was fabricated for prototype. Speed and torque characteristic was confirmed through the experiments, and flux linkage, which is important parameter of SRM for generating torque, was measured. The induction emf was calculated by using ideal inductance graph and current graph. Calculated emf and measured emf was compared for confirming loss of prototype in this paper.
