  • When we assign frequency resources to a new radio service, the existing services need not to be interfered with by the new service. Therefore, when we make a frequency assignment, a guard band is necessary to separate adjacent frequency bands so that both can transmit simultaneously without interfering with each other. In this paper, we propose an efficient frequency guard band decision rule for avoiding interference between radio services. The guard band is established based on the probability of interference in the previously arranged scenario. The interference probability is calculated using the spectrum engineering advanced Monte Carlo(MC) analysis tool(SEAMCAT). After applying the proposed algorithm to set up the frequency guard band, we can decide on the guard band appropriately because the result satisfies the predefined criterion.

  • As ESL(Electronic Shelf Label) system is increased at the market in the world, the interference between ESL system and Wi-Fi(Wireless Fidelity) Cellular Phone at 2.4GHz becomes issue. The interference scenario and propagation of the Extended HATA Model were established to analyze the interference from Wi-Fi Cellular Phone into ESL system. Through simulation results based on SEAMCAT(Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool), separation distance was obtained to protect ESL system from Wi-Fi Cellular Phone interference.

  • Femtocell networks can be a potential method for increasing the capacity of LTE networks, especially in indoor areas. However, unplanned deployment of femtocells results in co-tier interference and cross-tier interference problems. The interference reduces the advantages of implementing femtocell networks to a certain extent. The notion of Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) is proposed in order to reduce the impact of interference on the system's performance. In this paper, a dynamic approach for efficiently partitioning the spectrum is suggested. The goal is to enhance the capacity of femtocells, which will improve the performance of the system. The suggested strategy allocates less resources to the macrocell portion of the network, which has a greater number of femtocells deployed to maximize the utilization of available resources for femtocell users. The spectrum division would be dynamic. The proposed strategy is evaluated through a simulation using MATLAB tool. In conclusion, the results showed that the proposed scheme has the potential to boost the system's capacity.

  • The tool overhang length affects tool deflection and chatter that should be reduced for machined surface quality, productivity and long tool lift. The shortest tool setting algorithm that uses a safe space is proposed and applied with simulation software in NC machining. The safe space in the coordinate fixed in the tool is computed by the virtual machining system that simulates NC machining by stock model, tool model and NC code. The optimal tool assembly that has largest diameter and shortest length is possible using the safe space. This algorithm has been applied over fifty companies for safe and rigid tool setting. The collision accident between holder and stock was reduced from 3 to 0 a year and the productivity was incensed about 15% by using faster feed rate acceptable for shorten tool length.

  • This paper presents rough cut tool path planning for the fewer-axis machine consisting of a three-axis CNC machine and a rotary indexing table. In the problem dealt with in this paper, the tool orientation is "intermediately" changed, distinguished from the conventional problem where the tool orientation is assumed to be fixed. The developed rough cut path planning algorithm tries to minimize the number of tool orientation (setup) changes together with tool changes and the machining time for the rough cut by the four procedures: a) decomposition of the machining area based on the possibility of tool interference (via convex hull operation), b) determination of the optimal tool size and orientation (via network graph theory and branch-and bound algorithm), c) generation of tool path for the tool and orientation (based on zig-zag pattern), and d) feedrate adjustment to maintain the cutting force at an operation level (based on average cutting force). The developed algorithms are validated via computer simulations, and can be also used in pure fiveaxis machining environment without modification.

  • Roughness of curved surfaces finished with flexible tools depends on the tool/work contact pressure and area. In this study, non-Hertzian closely conforming elastic contact theory is employed to analyze the tool/work contact and to generate a tool path producing a constant pressure at initial contact points. Finishing experiments on curved surfaced are conducted using the tool path. For comparison, curved surface finishing is also performed along the tool path producing a constant tool/work interference depth. It is demonstrated that the tool path of constant contact pressure improves the finished surface roughness.

  • TV White Spaces (TVWS) are freed up after transition from analog television to Digital Television (DTV). Some wireless communications are allowable to operate in TVWSs, such unlicensed Wireless Fidelity (WiFi). Because TVWSs are located in the VHF and UHF bands, TVWSs can provide significantly better coverage and wall penetration inside buildings and other structures than the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi frequencies currently in use. Therefore, this paper assumes that WiFi will be deployed in TVWSs. However, the interference impact of WiFi on DTV has to be taken into account. The interference probability in DTV receiver was evaluated by using Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte-Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT). As a result, when 20 WiFi UEs are simultaneously operating at the maximum transmit power of 23 dBm and the guard band is 22 MHz, the protection distance should be at least 6 km to meet the interference probability of 5% in DTV receiver.

  • Tool condition monitoring plays one of the most important roles in the improvement of both machining quality and productivity. In this regard, various process signals and monitoring methods have been developed. However, most of the existing studies used cutting force or acoustic emission signals, which posed risks of interference with the machining system in dynamics, fixturing, and machining configuration. In this study, a feed motor current signal is used as a process signal representing process and tool states in tool breakage monitoring based on an adaptive autoregressive model and unsupervised neural network. From the experimental results using various cases of tool breakage, it is shown that the developed system can successfully detect tool breakage before two revolutions of the spindle after tool breakage.

  • A 5-axis NC milling technology is presented on ruled surface. Problems in 5-axis NC machining are such as tool interference, tool collision and change of tool attitude, etc. The change of tool attitude causes rotation of cutter and variation of feedrate to overcut part surface. This poor control of tool attitude is the primary problem in multi-axis NC milling. This paper observes ruled surface for control of tool attitude. Ruled surface is composed of directrix and ruling, line of constant magnitude. Directrix corresponds to points on part surface and Ruling cutting tool. Trajectory of tool movement corresponds to ruled surface.

  • This paper deals with the distributions of the contact stress in oil seals. The distributions of the contact stress due to the temperature effects are analyzed for various values of the interference for a nitrile rubber seal. The calculated FEM results show that the relative maximum stresses occur at the contacting area against the shaft, the flex zone, and the contacting area of the garter spring grooves. Using the coupled temperature-stress FEM a nalysis, the contact force of a radial lip seal with and without the garter spring are studied as a function of shaft diameter. The calculated results of mechanical analysis show good correspondence with those of the coupled thermal-mechanical analysis method except small values of the interference. And the calculated results indicated that the thermal stresses only have a very minor influence on the deformed shape of the lip seal as the interference increases. But the coupled temperature-stress analysis will be very useful tool to predict the contact behaviors of rubber lip seals for small values of the interference.
