  • This paper deals with tipping over of hydraulic excavator's crane work. If excavator lift too heavy weight, excavator tipped up. This is 38% of whole excavator accidents. In this paper, tipping over load which is maximum load of excavator can lift with displacement of excavator links, real load and tipping over rate are calculated with Zero Moment Point. We designed the tipping-over stability criterion algorithm considering the dynamic characteristics to which ZMP theory is applied and discussed the usefulness of the proposed algorithm compared with the moment equilibrium equation through the simulation and the actual test.

Development of a smart rain gauge system for continuous and accurate observations of light and heavy rainfall

  • Improvement of old-fashioned rain gauge systems for automatic, timely, continuous, and accurate precipitation observation is highly essential for weather/climate prediction and natural hazards early warning, since the occurrence frequency and intensity of heavy and extreme precipitation events (especially floods) are recently getting more increase and severe worldwide due to climate change. Although rain gauge accuracy of 0.1 mm is recommended by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the traditional rain gauges in both weighting and tipping bucket types are often unable to meet that demand due to several existing technical limitations together with higher production and maintenance costs. Therefore, we aim to introduce a newly developed and cost-effective hybrid rain gauge system at 0.1 mm accuracy that combines advantages of weighting and tipping bucket types for continuous, automatic, and accurate precipitation observation, where the errors from long-term load cells and external environmental sources (e.g., winds) can be removed via an automatic drainage system and artificial intelligence-based data quality control procedure. Our rain gauge system consists of an instrument unit for measuring precipitation, a communication unit for transmitting and receiving measured precipitation signals, and a database unit for storing, processing, and analyzing precipitation data. This newly developed rain gauge was designed according to the weather instrument criteria, where precipitation amounts filled into the tipping bucket are measured considering the receiver's diameter, the maximum measurement of precipitation, drainage time, and the conductivity marking. Moreover, it is also designed to transmit the measured precipitation data stored in the PCB through RS232, RS485, and TCP/IP, together with connecting to the data logger to enable data collection and analysis based on user needs. Preliminary results from a comparison with an existing 1.0-mm tipping bucket rain gauge indicated that our developed rain gauge has an excellent performance in continuous precipitation observation with higher measurement accuracy, more correct precipitation days observed (120 days), and a lower error of roughly 27 mm occurred during the measurement period.

  • A fundamental principle in clasp selection for a specific abutment is the reduction of the transmission of excessive forces to the abutment tooth. Those forces include tilting, tipping, and stress on the abutment tooth. The flexibility of a clasp was believed to directly affect the reduction of such forces. Opinions have been expressed concerning the proper type of clasp to be used to prevent stress on periodontium. In order to evaluate and compare the various designs of a clasp system, it is necessary to measure these forces. This study compared the average measurements of forces required to dislodge three kinds of circumferential clasps having different amount of undercuts : the first with a round retentive arm, the second with a half round retentive arm, the third with a wrought wire retentive arm under tensile load. Three commonly used undercuts( 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 inch) were created on nine cast crowns, premolars and molars. The test was run six times for a same clasp. The means of tensile load required to dislodge each of the different clasps were compared statistically using the ANOVA test and multiple range test (Duncan test). The results were as follows. 1. The amount of tensile load of the wrought wire clasp was significantly different from the cast round or half round clasp (p<0.05). 2. The more amount of the undercut, the more tensile load was needed to dislodge the clasps. There were significant differences among them (p<0.05). 3. The molar showed higher tensile load than the premolar, and there was significant difference (p<0.05). 4. The means of tensile load according to clasp types showed significant differences at the molar between wrought wire clasp and cast clasp (p<0.05), but did not at the premolar.

  • The ability to handle materials from one location to another, whether during transit or at the worksite is vital to all segments of industry. To varying degrees, many personnel in numerous workplaces take part in materials handling. Consequently, some employees are injured. In fact, rigging & slinging is a dangerous work using a crane and sling equipment to carry a cargo and the mishandling of materials is the single largest cause of accidents and injuries in the workplace. The majority of accidents associated with cranes and other lifting appliances are caused by faulty slinging, overloading, unbalanced loads, etc. which result in the load falling or tipping out of control, causing injury to people, damage to plant, machinery and the load. Therefore, recognizing the dangers of the works, there are much technical support including skill training in various institutes to minimize accidents during works on land. Although rigging work at sea is much dangerous than on land work because it needs to take account of the movements of the ships and waves, etc. in addition to land based rigging hazards, it is insufficient in appropriate actions that can improve the safety of the workers at sea. Therefore, this study suggested a rigging and slinging course for seafarers to improve their safety at sea by researching hazards and risk of rigging works and related skill training conducted on land.

압력센서를 이용한 세그웨이 개발 (Implementation of Segway Using Pressure Sensors)

  • 최근 현대사회는 고도의 발전과 더불어 화석연료 사용으로 인한 환경문제가 대두되고 있다. 그래서 저공해 에너지 및 기술개발 등 지속적인 노력을 기울이고 있지만 기존의 화석연료와 자동차를 대체 할 수 있을 만한 수준의 성과를 거두지는 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 21세기 전기 오토모바일 분야에서 세그웨이(Segway) 기술을 토대로 단점을 보안하고 새로운 인터페이스의 방향을 제시하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 세그웨이는 자체의 기울어짐을 이용해서 제어를 하기 때문에 어느정도 경사가 있는 곳에서 기울기를 잘못 조절하면 그대로 넘어지는 문제가 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 단점을 해결해 보고자 2개의 압력센서(Load cell)를 사용하여 체중비율에 따른 제어방법을 도입해 보았다. 또, 경사로에서의 수월한 운행을 위해서 자이로센서와 가속도 센서를 사용해서 값을 보정해 경사에서도 자유로운 제어방법을 연구해 보았다. 탑승자의 체중과 경사각에 따른 압력센서의 압력 감지값을 실험으로 측정하여 산출해 본 결과 경사각에 비해서 체중에 대한 제어변수 변화량이 크다는 점을 알 수 있다. 결과적으로 압력센서를 사용해서 만든 세그웨이또한 제어가 간편하며 경사로 등에서의 안정성도 높은 것을 알 수 있다.

굴삭기 안전 관리를 위한 인양작업에 관한 기초연구 (The Fundamental Research on Lifting-Work for Excavator Safety Management)

  • 굴삭기는 삽날(shovel)을 이용해서 토공작업을 하는 장비로 분류되어 있으나, 실질적으로는 굴착을 한 후 물체를 인양하여 옮기는 작업에 이용되고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 인양력은 굴삭기의 주요성능으로 분류될 필요가 있으며, 정확한 성능을 제공할 필요가 있다. 하지만 국내 현실은 아직 이러한 요구를 충족시켜 주지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 1) 외국의 굴삭기 인양력에 대한 조사를 실시하여 국내 도입을 위한 기초자료로 활용하고자 하였다. 2) 인양력에 대한 정보 없이 국내에서 사용중인 굴삭기에 적용할 수 있는 인양력 산정방법을 제안하고 이를 검증해 보았다. 3) 인양 가능한 구간을 인양안전구간과 인양주의구간으로 나누어 제공할 것을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 제시한 굴삭기의 인양력 정보와 인양구간에 관한 정보는 작업계획 및 안전관리업무에 객관적이고 실질적인 기저정보로서 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

식생밭두렁과 실트펜스를 이용한 밭 비점오염 저감효과 평가 (Evaluation for Non-Point Sources Reduction Effect by Vegetated Ridge and Silt Fence)

  • The objective of this study was to test the non-point source pollution (NPS) control by the vegetated ridge and silt fence through field monitoring. The experiment plots were established with three sizes which are 5 m width by 22 m length with 8 %, 3 % slope and 15m width by 15 m length with 6 % slope. Flumes with the floating type stage gages were installed at the outlet of each plot to monitor the runoff. For a rainfall monitoring, tipping bucket rain gage was installed within the experiment site. Water quality samples were monitored during the heavy rainfall occurred. The amount of rainfall from 4 monitored events ranged from 27.6 mm to 130 mm. The runoff reduction rate could vary depending on slope, soil, crop growth condition, rainfall amount, rainfall intensity, antecedent moisture condition, and many other factors. The runoff from vegetated ridge and silt fence treatment plots was 24.05 % and -8.28 % lower than that from control plot, respectively. The monitoring results showed that the average pollution loads reduced by vegetated ridge compared to control were BOD 36.62~53.60 %, SS 40.41~73.71 %, COD 39.34~56.41 %, DOC 49.08~53.67 %, TN 26.74~67.23 %, and TP 52.72~91.80 %; by silt fence compared to control were SS 41.73 %, COD 1.93 %, and TN 2.38 %. The paired t-test result indicated that the vegetated ridge and silt fence were statistically significant effect in SS load reduction, with a 5 % significant level. Monitored results indicated that vegetated ridge and silt fence were both effective to reduce the pollutant from the field surface runoff.
