  • Technological progress in integrated, low-power, CMOS communication devices and sensors makes a rich design space of networked sensors viable. These sensors can be deeply embedded in the physical world and spread throughout sensor network environment like smart dust. So ubiquitous computing will be come true. SmartDust project is the one of ubiquitous computing approach. It produces TinyOS, mote(mica, mica2, rene2, mica2dot, etc.), NesC, TinyDB, etc. We constructs sensor network test bed and tests to approach sensor network and ubiquitous computing.

  • The realization of a monitoring system for senior citizens living alone through wireless sensor network. Due to the recent advances in medical science, people live longer than ever before which accelerates the number of senior citizens. The high rate of the old people in population causes some changes in the form of families, which results in the increasing number of old people living by themselves. This also causes a lot of social problems concerning aging population. For example, people found a dead body of 83-year-old, who had lived alone, after he passed away a month before. There is a national monitoring service for the old people of their daily lives, but the application of such system is very limited. Considering this, the current paper focuses on the realization of a monitoring system for senior citizens living alone through wireless sensor network. The system consists of ZigBee sensor network, which is based on standard IEEE 802.15.4. and the system uses Tmote Sky sensor mote made by Moteive, which is installed with TinyOS. The circumstances information data will be saved on DB and a household will be monitored through a Webpage or Mobile.

  • A number of on-demand routing protocols for sensor networks have been proposed yet. However, the majority of proposed on-demand routing protocols for sensor networks are not suitable for a relatively poor wireless environment and sensor applications requiring reliable data transmission due to using a hop-count metric for their protocols. In this paper, we proposed a minimum LQI(Link Quality Indicator) based on-demand sensor network routing protocol that is suitable for a relatively poor wireless environment and implemented the proposed routing protocol on a TinyOS. We also compared the implemented protocol with typical hop count based routing protocol by carrying out performance experiments on a multi-hop testbed. The results from these experiments showed that the successful transmission rate of the proposed routing protocol is higher than that of typical hop count based routing protocol over a poor wireless link.

  • In this paper, we propose an authenticated key agreement scheme, TinyIBAK, based on the identity-based cryptography and bilinear paring, for large scale sensor networks. We prove the security of our proposal in the random oracle model. According to the formal security validation using AVISPA, the proposed scheme is strongly secure against the passive and active attacks, such as replay, man-in-the middle and node compromise attacks, etc. We implemented our proposal for TinyOS-2.1, analyzed the memory occupation, and evaluated the time and energy performance on the MICAz motes using the Avrora toolkits. Moreover, we deployed our proposal within the TOSSIM simulation framework, and investigated the effect of node density on the performance of our scheme. Experimental results indicate that our proposal consumes an acceptable amount of resources, and is feasible for infrequent key distribution and rekeying in large scale sensor networks. Compared with other ID-based key agreement approaches, TinyIBAK is much more efficient or comparable in performance but provides rekeying. Compared with the traditional key pre-distribution schemes, TinyIBAK achieves significant improvements in terms of security strength, key connectivity, scalability, communication and storage overhead, and enables efficient secure rekeying.

  • Wireless sensor network technology is an emerging technology consisting of small, low power, and low cost devices that integrate limited computation, sensing, and radio communication capabilities. An ad-hoc home network system based embedded system for home environment monitoring was fabricated and tested. The wireless sensor node consists of a MCU, RF transceiver and sensors (temperature, humidity and light). Wireless sensor nodes run application software for data sampling and wireless communication, that was developed using 'nesC language' which runs on TinyOS. In our tests, acquired sensors data were monitored on 6.4" TFT-LCD of base-station through IEEE802.15.4 standard wireless communication. Also, the sensor data can be monitored by client user at the terminal PC to monitor environmental status of home in real time.

  • This paper has implemented a ubiquitous healthcare system that can measure and check the electrocardiogram of a human body in anytime and anywhere. The implemented prototype is composed of electrocardiogram measurement terminal, data gathering base node, and medical information server. The implemented node constructs a sensor network using the Zigbee protocol and the TinyOS is installed on each node. The data gathering base node is linux-based node that can transfer sensed medial data through wireless LAN. And, the medical information server stores the processed medical data and can promptly notify the urgent status to the connected medical team. Through experiment, we confirmed the possibility of ubiquitous healthcare system based on sensor network using the Zigbee.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic tree formation protocol for multiple UAV which is gathering data or accomplishing a mission such as disaster monitoring, environment monitoring, and disaster relief. Especilly, we designed Hop-LQI Weight algorithm to form optimal tree in wireless dynamic environment applying situation of radio signal attenuation over distance and implemented our algorithm in MSP 430 K-mote sensor platform using TinyOS codes. We verified performance of our algorithm by comparing average link setup time by the number of nodes with minimum LQI, link cost calculation method in wireless communication.
