  • An experimental study was performed to discover the tribological behaviors of pure tin and zinc coated 52100 bearing steel. Pure tin coatings ranging from 30 nm to 30,000 nm and pure zinc coatings ranging from 500 nm to 52,000 nm were produced by a thermal evaporation coating method. Experiments using a thrust ball bearing-typed rolling test-rig were performed for the investigations of the effect of coating thickness on the tribological rolling behavior. Results showed that the existence of optimum film thickness which revealed minimum rolling resistance was discovered for tin and zinc coating. The compatibility of coating material to iron showed no significant effect on the rolling resistance behavior. The hardness of coating material revealed significant influence to the rolling resistance behavior.

  • In the present study, tin-zinc alloys were coated on a cold-rolled steel sheet with variations of electrolyte concentration, additives quantity and current density employing the Hull cell and circulation cell simulator. With an addition of additives of 2m1/L, tin-zinc deposits containing 10 to 40 percent Zn revealed a good surface appearance with weak acidic electrolytes. The organic additives suppressed the Sn deposition rate and thus increased the zinc contents in tin-zinc coating layers. The zinc contents in the tin-zinc coating layers depended almost linearly on the concentrations of metal ions of tin and zinc. Temperature of the electrolyte affected the composition tin-zinc coating layer. However, the concentration of complexants revealed little effectiveness. The surface morphology of tin-zinc coating showed dense tin and zinc phases with fine equiaxed grains with the high current density.

  • High speed wire seam weldability of tin coated thin gage sheet steels was investigated. Thickness and coating weight ranges of the test materials were 0.21~0.35mm and 1.1/1.1~2.8/11.2g/$m^2$, respectively. Test results indicated that the surface roughness value, Rz decreased as increasing the coating weight. The Rz was thought to be one of the important factors to influence the optimum welding condition range, $\triangle$Q. The $\triangle$Q showed close relationship with welding conditions such as welding pressure and travel speed. Higher welding pressure widened the $\triangle$Q while higher travel speed reduced the $\triangle$Q value. Results also demonstrated that tin coating weight should be optimized based on the weldability or the serviceability after welding. At th HAZ of sheet materials with thinner coating layer, tin depleted zone was produced since molten film of the coating material on the base metal agglomerated by the surface tension, which could result in reducing the corrosion resistance of the HAZ in the service environment.

  • Tool life characteristics were investigated for the TiN coated (PVD) tungsten carbide cutting tools to improve the tool life Experimental variables for Tin coating were coating time and cathode bias voltage and cuting variables were cutting speed and feel rate. As a experiment result, TiN coated tool was extended about from 2.14 to 2.7 times than that of not coated tungsten carbide tools. Also, coating thinkness is much affected to tool life.

  • Antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles were added as nanofillers to UV-curable polyester-acrylate (PEA) resin for coating to improve thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. In this study, ATO nanoparticles were grafted by 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane and 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane respectively to improve dispersion and interfacial adhesion. The physical properties and surface scratch hardness of the UV-curable nanocomposite coating were improved considerably by introducing the modified ATO nanoparticles.

  • In this study, in order to obtain a high reflectivity for the LED lead frame, tin dip coating and tin plating were conducted respectively, and wettability of LED lead frame with tin solder also was tested by wetting balance tester. A Cu sheet was plated in Cu brighten electroplating bath and followed by immersion in a Sn electro-less plating bath [1]. On the other hand, in the dip coating process, a Cu sheet was dipped into molten tin. In the progress of wetting test, besides wetting balance curve, the maximum measured force($F_m$), the maximum withdrawal force($F_w$) and zero-cross time($t_0$) were obtained in various temperatures. With the maximum withdrawal force, the surface tension was calculated at different temperatures. The Cu sheet plated with bright Cu and Sn show a silver bright property while that of Cu dipped with Sn possessed a high reflectance density of 1.34GAM at $270^{\circ}C$.

  • The study is coated tin(IV) oxide coated on the titanium substrate electrodes by electrodepositon and dip-coating method and studied about that physical and electrochemical characterization by coating methods. After titanium substrate is etched in HCl, electrodespotion is coated $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ in nitrate solution by pulse technique, dip-coating method is also used $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ in 1;1V% HCl and coated by dipping and annealing process. tin(IV) oxide coated on titanium substrate electrodes by two coating methods are studied x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to compare physical characterization of electrode and potential window by cyclic voltammetry (CV) to observe electrochemical characterization.

  • Thin tin oxide film with nano-size particle was prepared on silicon substrate by hydrothermal synthetic method and successive sol-gel spin coating method. The fabrication method of tin oxide film with ultrafine nano-size crystalline structure was tried to be applied to fabrication of micro gas sensor array on silicon substrate. The tin oxide film on silicon substrate was well patterned by chemical etching upto 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$width and showed very uniform flatness. The tin oxide film preparation method and patterning method were successfully applied to newly proposed 2-dimensional micro sensor fabrication.

  • Lithium intercalated carbon (LIC) are basically employed as an anode for currently commercialized lithium secondary batteries. However, there are still strong interests in modifying carbon surface of active materials of the anode because the amount of irreversible capacity, charge-discharge capacity and high rate capability are largely determined by the surface conditions of the carbon. In this study, the carbonaceous materials were coated with tin oxide and copper by fluidized-bed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method and their coating effects on electrochemical characteristics were investigated. The electrode which coated with tin oxides gave the higher capacity than that of raw material. Their capacity decreased with the progress of cycling possibly due to severe volume changes. However, the cyclability was improved by coating with copper on the surface of the tin oxides coated carbonaceous materials, which plays an important role as an inactive matrix buffering volume changes. An impedance on passivation film was decreased as tin oxides contents and it resulted in the higher capacity.
