  • From the short-period variability survey (SPVS) in Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory, I obtained time-series BV CCD images in the region of the young open cluster M29 (NGC 6913) for 15 nights from May 30, 2008 to September 17, 2009. I observed 48 variable stars including 45 new ones. They consisted of 5 $\delta$ Scuti, a Cepheid, 16 eclipsing binaries and 24 semi-long periodic and/or slow irregular type variable stars including $\beta$ Cephei and LPB type stars. For the rest two ones, the type of variability was not defined. I also checked the variability of the 26 known variable stars listed in the GCVS. Only three ones among 26 known variable stars confirmed variability.

  • Higher prediction efficacy is a very challenging task in any field of engineering. Due to global warming, there is a considerable increase in the global sea level. Through this work, an attempt has been made to find the sea level variability due to climate change impact at Haldia Port, India. Different statistical downscaling techniques are available and through this paper authors are intending to compare and illustrate the performances of three regression models. The models: Wavelet Neural Network (WNN), Minimax Probability Machine Regression (MPMR), Feed-Forward Neural Network (FFNN) are used for projecting the sea level variability due to climate change at Haldia Port, India. Model performance indices like PI, RMSE, NSE, MAPE, RSR etc were evaluated to get a clear picture on the model accuracy. All the indices are pointing towards the outperformance of WNN in projecting the sea level variability. The findings suggest a strong recommendation for ensembled models especially wavelet decomposed neural network to improve projecting efficiency in any time series modeling.

  • The analysis of power spectrum based on linear AR model is applied widely to quantize the response of autonomic nerve noninvasively, In this paper, we estimate the power spectrum density for heartrate variability of the electrocadiogram and pulse wave for short term data(less than two minute), The time series of heart rate variability is obtained from the time interval(RRI, PPI) between the feature point of the electrocadiogram and pulse wave for normal person, The generated time series reconstructed into new time series through polynomial interpolation to apply to the AR mode. The power spectrum density for AR model is calculated by Burg algorithm, After applying AR model, the power spectrum density for heart rate variability of the electrocadiogram and the pulse wave is shown smooth spectrum power at the region of low frequence and high frequence, and that the power spectrum density of electrocadiogram and pulse wave has similar form for same subject.

  • Although the government has revised the child welfare act, institutionalized the establishment of local children's centers, and given financial support for them, there are a number of problems with respect to their operation. Specifically, one of main problems is their limited space. Diverse problems that go with the arrangement of limited space and usability have occurred, however there are only a few strategies to use limited space flexibly. This study assumed variability as one of the methods to solve spatial problems. As a basic research for the assumption, Analyzing the variable method and characteristics of domestic and foreign child-care facility guidelines was performed trying to take advantage of as a basic data in order to seek a variable scheme of local children centers' indoor space. For this purpose, study analysed the methods and characteristics of variability centering on aspects related to variability which are environmental design elements required by local children's centers as suggested in previous studies. The results are as follows. First, the variability of space should be planned according to activity and time, and consider the methods of division, storage, and other facilities necessary. Second, methods of variability in space can be classified into creating areas and structures that are variable. Third, as a result of analysing the environmental design elements required by local children's centers, this study discovered the following characteristics: multi-purpose usability through a combination of variable devices, transition through a variable space medium and setting up areas and expansion of indoor variability assuming usability through internal and external connections.

  • The evaluation of mental workload is measured by subjective ratings, physiological signals. It takes long time to analysis the measured signals and is very tedious and time-consumming work. Therefore, to evaluate the affect of workload effectively, real-time measurement system is required. In this paper, real-time mental workload measurement system using cardiac autonomic indiced which reflect well the mental workload was developed and evaluated. Analyzed indices were HR, IBI, Lorentz plot, CSI, CVI, and LF/HF ratio of heart rate variability. The system was applied to evaluate the affect of arithmetic task and showed good results. This system was consisted of ECG amplifier, A/D converter, and personal computer, and algorithm was implemented using LabVIEW.

  • UAV in the agricultural application are capable of collecting ultra-high resolution image. It is possible to obtain timeliness images for phenological phases of the crop. However, the UAV uses a variety of sensors and multi-temporal images according to the environment. Therefore, it is essential to use normalized image data for time series image application for crop monitoring. This study analyzed the variability of UAV reflectance and vegetation index according to Aviation Image Making Environment to utilize the UAV multispectral image for agricultural monitoring time series. The variability of the reflectance according to environmental factors such as altitude, direction, time, and cloud was very large, ranging from 8% to 11%, but the vegetation index variability was stable, ranging from 1% to 5%. This phenomenon is believed to have various causes such as the characteristics of the UAV multispectral sensor and the normalization of the post-processing program. In order to utilize the time series of unmanned aerial vehicles, it is recommended to use the same ratio function as the vegetation index, and it is recommended to minimize the variability of time series images by setting the same time, altitude and direction as possible.

  • The accidents caused by drivers while driving are considered as the major causes along with other causes such as conditions of roads, weather and cars. In this study, we investigated the driver's workloads under three different driving conditions (Weather, Driving time zone, and Traffic density) through analyzing biological signals obtained from a car driving simulator system. The proposed method is able to detect R waves and R-R interval calculation in the ECG. Heart rate variability (HRV) was investigated for the time domain to determine the changes in driver's conditions.

  • Genetic variability is an important component in the ability of populations to adapt in the face of environmental change. Severe human impacts reduced Muzzafarnagri sheep of India from 500,000 in 1972 to 10,989 in 1973-74. Here we report for the first time the effect of this population decline on levels of genetic variability at 13 FAO recommended ovine microsatellite loci and contrast levels of variability to that in a breed from the same geographical region, which differed in numbers, by an order of magnitude (Marwari sheep). Of the 13 loci, 100% were polymorphic in both breeds. A high degree of genetic variation was observed within populations in terms of both allele diversity (number of alleles per locus, >4) and gene diversity (expected heterozygosity, >0.5), which implied that there is still a substantial amount of genetic diversity at the nuclear loci in a declining population. Nevertheless, overall low number of alleles per locus and relatively less abundance of low frequency alleles in Muzzafarnagri sheep suggested that genetic variability has been comparatively reduced in this population. Bottleneck analysis indicated that a genetic bottleneck did not occur during the most recent decline. In addition, we found that the differentiation among populations was moderate ($F_{ST}$= 11.8%). This study on assessment of genetic effects of the population declines in ovines is a step towards identification of genetically impoverished or healthy populations, which could prove to be a useful tool to facilitate conservation planning in this important species of small ruminants.

  • Altimeter data from the Topex/Poseidon (T/P) were analyzed to study the sea surface circulation and its variability in the North East Asian Seas. Long term averaged T/P sea level time series data where compared with in situ sea level measurements from a float-operated type tide gauge around of south Korea and Japan. Tf data are a large contaminated by 60-day tidal aliasing effect, very near the alias periods of M2 and S2. When this 60-day effect is removed, the data agree well with the tide gauge data with 4.6 cm averaged RMS difference. The T/P derived sea level variability reveals clearly the well-known, strong current-topography such as Kuroshio. The T/P mean sea level of North Pacific (NP) was higher than Yellow Sea (YS) and East Sea (ES). The T/P sea level variability, with strong eddy and meandering, was the largest in eastern part of Japan and this variability was mainly due to the influence of bottom topography in Kuroshio Extension area.

  • We develop a simulation method that affords very high variability of virtual pedagogical situations involving many independent plans, still achieves authoring (or implementation) scalability. While each individual plan would be coherently drawn up by an agent for its respective goal, those independently-made plans might be coincidentally intertwined in their execution. The inevitable non-determinism involved in this multi-event plan encompassing pre-planned and unforeseen events is resolved by (multi-phase) dynamic planning and articulated sequencing of events in contrast to static planning and monolithic authoring in conventional narrative systems. Connections between events are dictated by their associated rules and their actual connections are dynamically determined in execution time by current conditions of background-world. This unified connection scheme across pre-planned and unforeseen events allows a multi-plan, multi-agent situation to be coherently planned and executed in a global scale. To further the variability of a situation, the inter-event coupling is made in a fine level of action along with a limited episteme of each agent involved. We confirm analytically the viability of our approach with respect to the situation variability and authoring scalability, and demonstrate its practicality with an implementation of a composite situation.
