This paper introduces the PC clustering of the SIMD structure for a distributed processing of on-line contingency to assess a static security of a power system. To execute on-line contingency analysis of a large-scale power system, we need to use high-speed execution device. Therefore, we constructed PC-cluster system using PC clustering method of the SIMD structure and applied to a power system, which relatively shows high quality on the high-speed execution and has a low price. SIMD(single instruction stream, multiple data stream) is a structure that processes are controlled by one signal. The PC cluster system is consisting of 8 PCs. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium 4 CPU and is connected with the others through ethernet switch based fast ethernet. Also, we consider N-1 line contingency that have high potentiality of occurrence realistically. We propose the distributed process algorithm of the SIMD structure for reducing too much execution time on the on-line N-1 line contingency analysis in the large-scale power system. And we have verified a usefulness of the proposed algorithm and the constructed PC cluster system through IEEE 39 and 118 bus system.

In general, Evoluationary Algorithm(EAs) are refered to as methods of population-based optimization. And EAs are considered as very efficient methods of optimal sytem design because they can provice much opportunity for obtaining the global optimal solution. This paper presents a co-evolution scheme of artifical neural networks, which has two different, still cooperatively working, populations, called as a host popuation and a parasite population, respectively. Using the conventional generatic algorithm the host population is evolved in the given environment, and the parastie population composed of schemata is evolved to find useful schema for the host population. the structure of artificial neural network is a diagonal recurrent neural netork which has self-feedback loops only in its hidden nodes. To find optimal neural networks we should take into account the structure of the neural network as well as the adaptive parameters, weight of neurons. So we use the genetic algorithm that searches the structure of the neural network by the co-evolution mechanism, and for the weights learning we adopted the evolutionary stategies. As a results of co-evolution we will find the optimal structure of the neural network in a short time with a small population. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method are inspected by applying it to the stabilization and position control of the invered-pendulum system. And we will show that the result of co-evolution is better than that of the conventioal genetic algorithm.

Naval ship design and related other activities can be characterized by the complexity of the interactions among products, activities, and disciplines. Such complexities often result in inferior designs, cost overrun, and late-delivery. Hence there exist tremendous interests in both improving the design process itself and optimizing the interactions among design activities. This paper looks at the complexity of designing naval ships thereby leading to the innovation of current ship design practices using design structure matrix. It can be used to induce the optimal ordering of design activities as well as identify sources of complexities. The method presented here identifies coupled design activities useful for reducing the complexity of naval ship design as well as optimally reordering design activities. This paper recommends the use of design structure matrix method suitable for numerically optimizing the concept design process of naval ship, and reducing cost and time required in designing naval ships by modeling and analyzing the design activities and engineering tasks, defined in systems engineering planning documents.
MEMS-based storage is being developed as a new storage media. Due to its attractive features such as high-bandwidth, low-power consumption, high-density, and low cost, MEMS storage is anticipated to be used for a wide range of applications from storage for small handhold devices to high capacity mass storage servers. However, MEMS storage has vastly different physical characteristics compared to a traditional disk. First, MEMS storage has thousands of heads that can be activated simultaneously. Second, the media of MEMS storage is a square structure which is different from the platter structure of disks. This paper presents a new request scheduling algorithm for MEMS storage that makes use of the aforementioned characteristics. This new algorithm considers the parallelism of MEMS storage as well as the seek time of requests on the two dimensional square structure. We then extend this algorithm to consider the aging factor so that starvation resistance is improved. Simulation studies show that the proposed algorithms improve the performance of MEMS storage by up to 39.2% in terms of the average response time and 62.4% in terms of starvation resistance compared to the widely acknowledged SPTF (Shortest Positioning Time First) algorithm.

Multiple earthquakes that occur during short seismic intervals affect the inelastic behavior of the structures. Sequential ground motions against the single earthquake event cause the building structure to face loss in stiffness and its strength. Although, numerous research studies had been conducted in this research area but still significant limitations exist such as: 1) use of traditional design procedure which usually considers single seismic excitation; 2) selecting a seismic excitation data based on earthquake events occurred at another place and time. Therefore, it is important to study the effects of successive ground motions on the framed structures. The objective of this study is to overcome the aforementioned limitations through testing a two storey RC building structural model scaled down to 1/10 ratio through a similitude relation. The scaled model is examined using a shaking table. Thereafter, the experimental model results are validated with simulated results using ETABS software. The test framed specimen is subjected to sequential five artificial and four real-time earthquake motions. Dynamic response history analysis has been conducted to investigate the i) observed response and crack pattern; ii) maximum displacement; iii) residual displacement; iv) Interstorey drift ratio and damage limitation. The results of the study conclude that the low-rise building model has ability to resist successive artificial ground motion from its strength. Sequential artificial ground motions cause the framed structure to displace each storey twice in correlation with vary first artificial seismic vibration. The displacement parameters showed that real-time successive ground motions have a limited impact on the low-rise reinforced concrete model. The finding shows that traditional seismic design EC8 requires to reconsider the traditional design procedure.
Rational Functions are used to express the self-excited aerodynamic forces acting on a flexible structure for use in time-domain flutter analysis. The Rational Function Approximation (RFA) approach involves obtaining of these Rational Functions from the frequency-dependent flutter derivatives by using an approximation. In the past, an algorithm was developed to directly extract these Rational Functions from wind tunnel section model tests in free vibration. In this paper, an algorithm is presented for direct extraction of these Rational Functions from section model tests in forced vibration. The motivation for using forced-vibration method came from the potential use of these Rational Functions to predict aerodynamic loads and response of flexible structures at high wind speeds and in turbulent wind environment. Numerical tests were performed to verify the robustness and performance of the algorithm under different noise levels that are expected in wind tunnel data. Wind tunnel tests in one degree-of-freedom (vertical/torsional) forced vibration were performed on a streamlined bridge deck section model whose Rational Functions were compared with those obtained by free vibration for the same model.

The rapid development of various applications in networking system, business, medical, education, and other domains that use basic data access operations such as insert, edit, delete and search makes data structure venerable and crucial in providing an efficient method for day to day operations of those numerous applications. One of the major problems of those applications is achieving constant time to search a key from a collection. A number of different methods which attempt to achieve that have been discovered by researchers over the years with different performance behaviors. This work evaluated these methods, and found out that almost all the existing methods have non-constant time for adding and searching a key. In this work, we designed a multi-indexes hashing algorithm that handles a collision in a hash table T efficiently and achieved constant time O(1) for searching and adding a key. Our method employed two-level of hashing which uses pattern extraction h1(key) and h2(key). The second hash function h2(key) is use for handling collision in T. Here, we eliminated the wasted slots in the search space T which is another problem associated with the existing methods.
In this paper, we present an Event Reporting which is one of the major items of MPEG-21 and exemplify two digital data broadcasting use case scenarios, and according1y we propose the Event Reporting message structure for MPEG-21 broadcasting contents that is based on these use case scenarios. Every interaction with a Digital Item in the multimedia framework can be called an Event. The need to standardize Event Reporting within the Multimedia Framework arise from the need to monitor and communicate amongst Peers and Users the Events relating to Digital Items and/or the programs and devices that operate on them at any given time. However, there are a number of difficulties in providing an accurate report about an Event. Different observers of the Event may have vastly different perspectives. In this paper, we describe a structure and vision of the Event Reporting. Besides we show the activities on MPEG-21 Event Reporting standardization.
Ultrasound images are noninvasive, can be observed in real time, have no radiation exposure, do not cause pain, and are not restricted in use depending on the patient's prosthetic implant or medical condition. Since the use of ultrasound in the dental field was first applied for tooth preparation in 1957, the use of diagnostic ultrasound for the first time in 1963 has been reported. Currently, it is used in the diagnosis of soft tissue lesions such as malignant tumor or salivary gland disease, fine needle aspiration test, temporomandibular joint disease, lymph node metastasis, measurement of muscle thickness and inflammatory diseases, differentiation of periapical cyst and granulation tissue, measurement of periodontal tissue thickness. The ultrasound image can be visualized in real time. The clinician can explain the structure to the patient while consulting the patient and consult the patient. When injecting the drug into a specific site or aspirating a specific site or substance, So that it can be confirmed and practiced. Recently, ultrasonic equipment specialized in the dental field has been developed and marketed, and it is expected that the use of ultrasonic waves will become active in the dentistry. In the future, development of popular equipment with size and frequency suitable for dental diagnosis and various researches on maxillofacial ultrasonic anatomy. If clinical studies are continuously carried out to demonstrate efficacy, ultrasound is expected to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment throughout the dentistry.
Soil moisture is defined as water in the pores of the soil's unsaturated zone, and it is closely related to various hydrological processes. This study aims to provide meaningful data by identifying factors affecting soil moisture through comparing soil moisture content and soil permeability in a study area covering six different land use types in an agricultural region that is highly dependent on groundwater. We conduct auto-correlation analysis, spectral density analysis, and cross-correlation analysis using time-series data. Soil moisture content shows to have weak auto-correlation and memory effects, and precipitation appears to have a substantial influence on soil moisture content. Saturation hydraulic conductivity does not vary markedly with changing land use, and instead appears to be affected by the inhomogenous soil structure.
