  • We propose the computation reduction method of real root method that is used in the EVRC(Enhanced Variable Rate Codec) system. The real root method is that if polynomial equations have the real roots, we are able to find those and transform them into LSP. However, this method takes much time to compute, because the root searching is processed sequentially in frequency region. But, the important characteristic of LSP is that most of coefficients are occurred in specific frequency region. So, to reduce the computation time of real root, we used the met scale that is linear below 1kHz and logarithmic above. In order to compare real root method with proposed method, we measured the following two. First, we compared the position of transformed LSP(Line Spectrum Pairs) parameters in the proposed method with these of real root method. Second, we measured how long computation time is reduced. The experimental result is that the searching time was reduced by about 48% in average without the change of LSP parameters.

  • In this paper, we proposed a simultaneous switching noise(SSN) reduction technique in muti-layer beards(MLB) for high-speed digital applications and analyzed them using the Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method. The new method by conductive dielectric substrates reduces SSN couplings and resonances, significantly, which cause series malfunctions in the modem high-speed digital applications.

  • Code excited linear prediction speech coders exhibit good performance at data rates as low as 4800 bps. The major drawback to CELP type coders is their large computational requirements. In this paper, we propose a new codebook search method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder with reduced complexity. The basic idea is to restrict the searching range of the random codebook by using a searching technique of the regular pulse excitation. Applying the proposed method to the CELP vocoder, we can get approximately 48% complexity reduction in the codebook search.

  • Low bit rate image/video coding is essential for many visual communication applications. When bit rates become low, most compression algorithms yield visually blocking artifacts that highly degrade the perceptual quality, and post-processing approaches provide one attractive solution. In this paper, we provide simple and very efficient blocking artifacts reduction method using constrained random value addition. Our method is simple enough to be used for real-time post-processing of video.

  • This paper presents a compensation method for discrete-time control systems with saturation nonlinearities to cope with the reset windup phenomena. The proposed ARW (Anti-Reset Windup) method is motivated by the concept of the equilibrium point. The design parameter of the ARW scheme is explicitly derived by minimizing a reasonable performance index. The resulting dynamics of the compensated controller exhibits the reduced model form of the unsaturated system which can be obtained by the singular perturbational model reduction method. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose the dimension reduction method of multi-dimension speech feature vector for real-time adaptation procedure in various noisy environments. This method which reduces dimensions non-linearly to map the likelihood of speech feature vector and noise feature vector. The LRT(Likelihood Ratio Test) is used for classifying speech and non-speech. The results of implementation are similar to multi-dimensional speech feature vector. The results of speech recognition implementation of detected speech data are also similar to multi-dimensional(10-order dimensional MFCC(Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient)) speech feature vector.

  • Extracting unique features from an image is a fundamental issue when making panorama images, acquiring stereo images, recognizing objects and analyzing images. Generally, the task to compare features to other images requires much computing time because some features are formed as a vector which has many elements. In this paper, we present a method that compares features after reducing the feature dimension extracted from an image using PCA(principal component analysis) and sorting the features in a linked list. SURF(speeded up robust features) is used to describe image features. When the dimension reduction method is applied, we can reduce the computing time without decreasing the matching accuracy. The proposed method is proved to be fast and robust in experiments.

  • For improving the seismic performance of the nuclear power plant (NPP) piping system, attempts have been made to apply a dynamic absorber (DA). However, the current piping DA design method is limited because it cannot provide the globally optimum values for the target design seismic loading. Therefore, this study proposes a seismic time history analysis-based DA optimal design method for piping. To this end, the Kriging approach is introduced to reduce the numerical cost required for seismic time history analyses. The appropriate design of the experiment method is used to increase the efficiency in securing response data. A gradient-based method is used to efficiently deal with the multi-dimensional unconstrained optimization problem of the DA optimal design. As a result, the proposed method showed an excellent response reduction effect in several responses compared to other optimal design methods. The proposed method showed that the average response reduction rate was about 9% less at the maximum acceleration, about 5% less at the maximum value of the response spectrum, about 9% less at the maximum relative displacement, and about 4% less at the maximum combined stress compared to existing optimal design methods. Therefore, the proposed method enables an effective optimal DA design method for mitigating seismic response in NPP piping in the future.

  • The capacity spectrum method (CSM) is a simple and graphical seismic analysis procedure. Originally, it has been developed for buildings, but now its applicability has been extended to bridge structures. It is based on the capacity curve estimated by pushover analysis and demand spectrum reduced from linear elastic design spectrum by using effective damping or strength reduction factor. In this paper, the inelastic demand spectrum as the reduced demand spectrum is calculated from the linear elastic design spectrum by using the several formulas for the strength reduction factor. The effects of the strength reduction factor for the capacity spectrum analysis are evaluated for 3 types of symmetric and asymmetric bridge structures. To investigate an accuracy of the CSM which several formulas for strength reduction factor were applied, the maximum displacements estimated by the CSM are compared with the results obtained by nonlinear time history analysis for 8 artificially generated earthquakes. The maximum displacements estimated by the CSM using the SJ formula among the several strength reduction factors provide the most accurate agreement with those calculated by the inelastic time history analysis.
