  • Zinc ion containing thiuram type accelerator zinc dibutyldithiocarbamate (ZDBC) was compared to other thiuram type accelerators (tetramethylthiuram disulfide (TMTD) and dipentamethylenethiuram tetrasulfide (DPTT)) in silica filled natural rubber (NR) compound upon vulcanization and mechanical properties (modulus, tensile strength, and elongation %). ZDBC added compound showed the fastest cure time (t10) and the highest reinforcement index (R.I.) among them and showed a marching behavior. The mechanism was reviewed and a new mechanism was proposed.

  • Viscous analysis on incompressible flows is performed using unstructured triangular meshes. A two-dimensional and axisymmetric incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved in time-marching form by artificial compressibility method. The governing equations are discretized by a cell-centered based finite-volume method. and a centered scheme is used for inviscid and viscous fluxes with fourth order artificial dissipation. An explicit multi-stage Runge-Kutta method is used for the time integration with local time stepping and implicit residual smoothing. Convergence properties are examined and solution accuracies are also validated with benchmark solution and experiment.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis is used to find the effects of inclination of rear end on flow characteristic around an automobile. The reference slant angle of rear end is 28.6$^{\circ}$, the slant angle of rear end is decreased to 24$^{\circ}$, 26.6$^{\circ}$ and also increased to 31.6$^{\circ}$, 36.4$^{\circ}$. The 3-D incompressible Navier-Stockes equations are solved by the iterative time marching scheme. The computed surface pressure coefficients were compared with experimental results and a good agreement has been achieved. The A- and C-pillar vortex and other flow phenomena around the ground vehicle are evidently shown. The variation of aerodynamic coefficients of drag, lift with respect to inclination angle of rear end are systematically studied. The flow characteristic on the automobile surface with respect to change of inclination of rear end have been also studied.

  • The present work describes the prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a ducted axial fan. The prediction method is comprised of time-marching free-wake method, acoustic analogy, and the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz BEM. The predicted sound signal of a rotor is similar to the experiment one. We assume that the rotor rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the rotor is incompressible and inviscid. Then, a time-marching free-wake method is used to model the fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. The newly developed Helmholtz-Kirchhoff BEM lot thin body is used to calculate tile sound field of the ducted fan. The ducted fan with 6 blades is analysed and the sound field around the duct is calculated.

  • A study on the interference effects of overlapping tandem rotors in forward flight is conducted using the time-marching free-wake panel method which adopts field velocity boundary integral formulation. The conventional boundary integral formulation is numerically unstable for the cases when the blade and the wake are in close proximity to each other. In order to avoid this problem, this study applies the field velocity method and modifies the boundary integration formulation. The improved method is used for the parametric study on the advance ratio and the distance between the rotors. These are the parameters that most affect the interference of the tandem rotor in forward flight. Comparison of the aerodynamic performance shows that the horizontal distance between the rotors negligibly influences the overlap-induced power factor for high advance ratio. In addition, it shows that the overlap-induced power factor is inversely proportional to the squared vertical distance between the rotors, and that the overlap-induced power factor increases to a certain extent and decrease back as the advance ratio increases.

  • This paper describes the analysis of flow field around an automobile. The governing equations of the 3-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the iterative time marching scheme. The Chimera grid technique has been applied to efficiently simulate the flow around the side-view mirror. To validate the capability of simulating the flow around a ground vehicle, the flows around the Ahmed body with 12.5$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ of slant angles are simulated and good agreements with experiment and other numerical results are achieved. To validate Chimera grid technique, the flow field around a cylinder was also calculated. The computed results are also well agreed with other numerical results and experiment. After code validations, the flow phenomena around the ground vehicle are evidently shown. The flow around the side-view mirror is also well simulated using the Chimera grid technique.

  • Time-Marching methods solving Euler equations are used for calculation of two-dimensional, steady, inviscid flow through a stationary compressor cascade. Calculation method is based on the Denton`s opposed difference scheme. A smoothing in the axial direction is used to increase the stability of solution. The computational grid consists of quadrilateral elements, one of which has four nodes at each corner and the grid points on the upper periodic boundaries are located one pitch away from those on the lower boundaries to satisfy the periodicity condition. Results of calculation show good agreement with other computational and experimental results, proving that the present method of calculation should be applied with confidence for the cascade flow with shock wave.

  • Sound generation and radiation from the duct-rotor system are calculated numerically. The wake geometries of a two-bladed rotor are calculated by using a time-marching fiee-wake method without a non-physical model of the far wake. Acoustic free field due to a rotating rotor is obtained by Lowson's equation. Using Kirchhoff source, rotating sources are modeled as stationary ones and can be inserted in the thin body boundary element method. The Kirchhoff source is validated through calculation of acoustic pressure due to a rotating point force. The thin body boundary element method (thin body BEM) is validated through calculation of acoustic radiation of ducted dipole. Using Kirchhoff source and thin body BEM, acoustic radiation of a ducted rotating source is calculated. Acoustic shielding is observed by inserting a duct and shows different phenomena at each major frequency. Acoustic radiation of a real duct-rotor system is also calculated using this method and the ducted acoustic field is significantly different from rotor only.

  • In this paper, a stable marching-on in time(MOT) method with a time domain combined field integral equation(CFIE) is presented to obtain the transient scattering response from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional conducting bodies. This formulation is based on a linear combination of the time domain electric field integral equation(EFIE) with the magnetic field integral equation(MFIE). The time derivatives in the EFIE and MFIE are approximated using a central finite difference scheme and other terms are averaged over time. This time domain CFIE approach produces results that are accurate and stable when solving for transient scattering responses from conducting objects. Numerical results with the proposed MOT scheme are presented and compared with those obtained from the conventional method and the inverse discrete Fourier transform(IDFT) of the frequency domain CFIE solution.
