The transformer role is very important in power system operation and control; also its price is very expensive. Therefore many kinds of the efforts for transformer protection have been executed. So for as, current differential relay(87) has been mainly used for transformer protection. But current differential relaying method has several troubles as followings. Differential current can be occurred by transformers inrush current between winding1 and winding2 of transformer when transformer is initially energized. Also harmonic restrained element used in current differential relaying method is one of the causes of relays mal-operation because recently harmonics in power system gradually increase by power switching devices(SVC, FACTS, DSC, etc). Therefore many kinds of effort have been executed to solve the trouble of current differential relay and one of them is method using ratio of increment of flux linkages(RIFL) of the primary and secondary windings. This paper introduces a novel protective relay for power transformers using RIFL of the primary and secondary windings. Novel protective relay successfully discriminates between transformer internal faults and normal operation conditions including inrush and this paper includes real time test results using RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator) for novel protective relay. A novel protective relay was designed using the TMS320C32 digital signal processor and consisted of DSP module. A/D converter module, DI/DO module, MMI interface module and LCD display module and developed by Xelpower co., Ltd.

Brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM) doesn't use brush and slip ring, and has advantages such as high system reliability, small capacity of its frequency converter, low system cost, adjustable power factor and speed, etc. At the same time, it has good applicable potentials on the variable frequency motors and the variable speed constant frequency generators. However, due to the complicacy and particularity of BDFM in the structure and operating mechanism, the effect of magnetic field modulation directly influences the operating efficiency of BDFM. To study the effect of different cage rotor structures on the magnetic field modulation of BDFM, the rotor magnetomotive force (MMF) of BDFM with cage rotor is studied by the analytical method. The components and features of rotor harmonic MMFs are discussed. At the same time, the method to weaken the higher harmonics is analyzed by the theoretic formulae. Furthermore, the magnetic field modulation mechanism is expounded on in detail and the relationship between the magnetic field modulation effect and the operating efficiency of BDFM is established. And then, a new method for estimating the magnetic field modulation effect is proposed. At last, the magnetic field modulation effects of four BDFM prototypes with different cage rotor structures are compared by the MMF analysis and the efficiency data of electromagnetic design. The results verify the effectiveness of the new method for estimating the magnetic field modulation effect of BDFM with cage rotor.

This study investigates the response of functionally graded (FG) gas pipe under unsteady internal pressure and temperature. The pipe is proposed to be manufactured from FGMs rather than custom carbon steel, to reduce the erosion, corrosion, pressure surge and temperature variation effects caused by conveying of gases. The distribution of material graduations are obeying power and sigmoidal functions varying with the pipe thickness. The sigmoidal distribution is proposed for the 1st time in analysis of FG pipe structure. A Two-dimensional (2D) plane strain problem is proposed to model the pipe cross-section. The Fourier law is applied to describe the heat flux and temperature variation through the pipe thickness. The time variation of internal pressure is described by using exponential-harmonic function. The proposed problem is solved numerically by a two-dimensional (2D) plane strain finite element ABAQUS software. Nine-node isoparametric element is selected. The proposed model is verified with published results. The effects of material graduation, material function, temperature and internal pressures on the response of FG gas pipe are investigated. The coupled temperature and displacement FEM solution is used to find a solution for the stress displacement and temperature fields simultaneously because the thermal and mechanical solutions affected greatly by each other. The obtained results present the applicability of alternative FGM materials rather than classical A106Gr.B steel. According to proposed model and numerical results, the FGM pipe is more effective in natural gas application, especially in eliminating the corrosion, erosion and reduction of stresses.

In this paper, Euler-Bernoulli beam theories(EB-beam) are used, and Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT) analysis is then employed to extract their natural frequencies using both analytical approach and Co-rotational plane beam(CR-beam) EDISON program. EB-beam is used to analyze a spring-mass system with a single degree of freedom. Sinusoidal force with various frequencies and constant magnitude are applied to tip of each beam. After the oscillatory tip response is observed in EB-beam, it decreases and finally converges to the so-called 'steady-state.' The decreasing rate of the tip deflection with respect to time is reduced when the forcing frequency is increased. Although the tip deflection is found to be independent of the excitation frequency, it turns out that time to reach the steady state response is dependent on the forcing frequency.
Silica glass is a core material for optical fiber in optical telecommunications, but its centrosymmetry eliminates the second order nonlinearity. But it is experimentally well known that the space charge polarization induces the Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) when a strong DC voltage is applied to silica glass for a long period of time with metal blocking electrodes. In this report, the results of a theoretical calculation of the nonlinear optical property caused by the space charge polarization, and a model of a numerical analysis to predict the small chance in nonlinear optical property as functions of time and space are provided. Assuming that amorphous silica is a solid state electrolyte and sodium ion is the only mobile charge carrier, 'Finite Difference Method' was employed for modeling of numerical analysis. The distributions of the concentration of sodium ion and electric field as functions of a normalized length of the specimen and a normalized applied voltage were simulated.

Cables are prone to vibration due to their low inherent damping characteristics. Recently, negative stiffness dampers have gained attentions, because of their promising energy dissipation ability. The viscous inertial mass damper (termed as VIMD hereinafter) can be viewed as one realization of the inerter. It is formed by paralleling an inertial mass part with a common energy dissipation element (e.g., viscous element) and able to provide pseudo-negative stiffness properties to flexible systems such as cables. A previous study examined the potential of IMD to enhance the damping of stay cables. Because there are already models for common energy dissipation elements, the key to establish a general model for IMD is to propose an analytical model of the rotary mass component. In this paper, the characteristics of the rotary mass and the proposed analytical model have been evaluated by the numerical and experimental tests. First, a series of harmonic tests are conducted to show the performance and properties of the IMD only having the rotary mass. Then, the mechanism of nonlinearities is analyzed, and an analytical model is introduced and validated by comparing with the experimental data. Finally, a real-time hybrid simulation test is conducted with a physical IMD specimen and cable numerical substructure under distributed sinusoidal excitation. The results show that the chosen model of the rotary mass part can provide better estimation on the damper's performance, and it is better to use it to form a general analytical model of IMD. On the other hand, the simplified damper model is accurate for the preliminary simulation of the cable responses.

Three-dimensional nonlinear sloshing effects due to tank motions are simulated by solving boundary value problem using the panel method based on boundary integral technique. While Shinkai used boundary elements on which source strengths vary linearly between nodes, the source of constant strength is distributed on each triangular panel in the present study. The source strength at each time step is determined by solving the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind obtained from Green's theorem. To avoid cumulative numerical errors as time elapses, Adam-Bashforth-Moulton method is employed. Numerical examples for the case of partially filled spherical tank on board oscillating in harmonic sway mode or pitch mode are solved. The elevation of the free surface is compared with the result by Shinkai and confirmed in good agreement during early time. The input and the output energy are comparatively evaluated to check the overall accuracy of the present numerical scheme. Although some leakage of energy are found as time marches, it is plausible when we take into account nonlinearities of the problem and the number of panels of the model.

This paper was described on the characteristics of bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) whistle to develop a warning and attracting acoustic system which can be made friends woith environment and minimized to the fishing pollution from Cetaceans. The experiment for the acoustics of bottlenose dolphin whistle was carried out in dolphin performance hall at Seoul Grand Park during 18th~19th April, 2002. The frequency and the spectrum level of whistle a same pool were revealed 6~10KHz and 85㏈ but those revealed two harmonic waves a 6.7KHz and 21.3KHz for the frequency and 110㏈ and 94㏈ for the spectrum level, respectively, when a dolphin isolated from others. The range of frequency change of whistle was 3.86KHz and continuous time was 0.08 sec. The range of frequency change 10.20 KHz higher as 14.06 KHz and continuous time was 0.11sec longer as 0.19sec when a dolphin isolated from others. By the Mann-Whitney test for the result, there was a significant difference for the range of frequency change and continuous time between normal condition and when a dolphin was isolated from others. The pattern of whistle at the dolphin performance hall was five types and the frequency was getting increased slowly in the range of 5~10KHz at normal condition but there were pattern change of 5~20KHz at the isolated condition. Therefore it is thought that these experiments would be valuable for the development of acoustic system.

This Paper describes a crack scattering model for SH wave based on the boundary integral equation(BIE) method, where the fundamental unknown is crack opening displacement(COD). When a time harmonic plane wave was incident on a 2-D isolated crack (slit) of width 2a, the COD distributions were numerically calculated as a function of ka. The calculated COD agreed well with results obtained with other methods. The far-field scattering amplitude, which completely characterizes the flaw response, was calculated in two ways. The Kirchhoff approximation and the BIE-COD exact formulation were compared in terms of incidence angle and frequency ka in a pulse-echo mode. Maximum response was obtained for both methods at the specular reflection direction. Away from the specular direction, the Kirchhoff approximation becomes less accurate. The time domain crack response was also calculated using a band-limited spectrum of center frequency 10 MHz. At oblique incidence to the crack both methods show the existence of an antisymmetric flash points occurring from the crack edge. The Kirchhoff approximation provides an exact time interval between flash points, although it unrealistically gives the same amplitude.

A two-color particle image velocimetry (PIV) has been developed for measuring two dimensional velocity flowfields and applied to a Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle. This technique is similar to a single-color PIV technique except that two different color laser beams are used to solve the directional ambiguity problem. A green-color laser sheet (532 nm: 2nd harmonic beam of YAG laser) and a red-color laser sheet (619 nm: output beam from YAG pumped Dye laser using Rhodamine 640) are employed to illuminate the seeded particles. A high resolution (3060${\times}$2036) digital color CCD camera is used to record the particle positions. This system eliminates the photographic-film processing time and subsequent digitization time as well as the complexities associated with conventional image shifting techniques for solving directional ambiguity problem. The two-color PIV also has the advantage that velocity distributions in high speed flowfields can be measured simply and accurately by varying the time interval between two different laser beams due to its high signal-to-noise ratio and thereby less requirement of panicle pair numbers for a velocity vector in one interrogation spot. The velocity distribution in the Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle has been measured and the over-expanded shock cell structure can be predicted by the strain rate field. These results are compared and analyzed with the schlieren photograph for the velocity distributions and shock location.
