Hydraulic gradient of the landfill soils is estimated by Devlin (2003) method, and its variation characteristics from rainfall and permeability of the aquifer material are analyzed. The study site of 18 m $\times$ 12 m is located in front of the Environment Research Center at the Pukyong National University, and core logging, slug/bail test and groundwater monitoring was performed. The sluglbail tests were performed in 9 wells (except BH9 well), and drawdown data with elapsed time for bail tests were analyzed using Bouwer-Rice and Hvorslev methods. The average hydraulic conductivity estimated in each of the test wells was ranged $1.991{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}4.714{\times}10^{-6}m/sec$, and the average hydraulic conductivity in the study site was estimated $2.376{\times}10^{-6}m/sec$ for arithmetic average, $1.655{\times}10^{-6}m/sec$ for geometric average and $9.366{\times}10^{-7}m/sec$ for harmonic average. The permeability of landfill soils was higher at the east side of the study site than at the west side. Groundwater level in 10 wells was monitored 44 times from October 2 to November 7, 2007. The groundwater level was ranged 1.187$\sim$1.610 m, and the average groundwater level range in each of the well showed 1.256$\sim$1.407 m. The groundwater level was higher at the east side than at the west side of the study site, and this distribution is identify to it of hydraulic conductivity. The hydraulie gradient and the major flow direction for 10 wells were estimated 0.0072$\sim$0.0093 and $81.7618{\sim}88.0836^{\circ}$, respectively. Also, the hydraulic gradient and the major flow direction for 9 wells were estimated 0.0102$\sim$0.0124 and $84.6822{\sim}89.1174^{\circ}$, respectively. The hydraulic gradient of the study site increased from rainfall (83.5 mm) on October 7, causing by that the groundwater level of the site with high permeability was higher. The hydraulic gradient estimated on and after October 16 was stable, due to almost no rainfall. Thus, it was confirmed that the variation of the hydraulic gradient in the landfill soils was controlled by the rainfall.

In this study, fire resistance and residual strength were examined after the addition of PF fiber and bonding fireproofing gypsum board to a high strength concrete-model column of 50 MPa grade. At the beginning of the experiment, all the properties of base concrete appeared to satisfy the target range. In terms of the internal temperature record, a trend of slightly high temperature was shown when the fireproofing gypsum board was not bonding, and when the fireproofing gypsum board was bonding, as PF content increased gradually, the temperature was gradually lowered. In terms of the relationship, as time elapsed a low temperature was shown when fiber was mixed, and when the board was bonding, the trend of lower temperature could be confirmed. Meanwhile, in terms of spalling property, a severe explosive fracture was generated at PF 0%, and falling off was prevented as the fiber content was increased; however, discoloration and a multitude of cracks were discovered, and when the board was bonding, the trend in which the exterior became satisfactory when the content was increased emerged. In terms of the residual compressive strength, measuring of strength could not be performed at PF 0% without bonding of board, and the strength was increased as the fiber content was increased; however, there was a decrease in strength of about 30 ~ 40%, and in the case of PF 0% with the bonding of board, the strength could be measured; however, about an 80% decrease in strength was shown, and only about a 10 ~ 20% decline in strength was displayed, as the range of decrease was reduced as the fiber content was increased. Considering all of these factors, it was determined that a more efficient enhancement of fire resistance was obtained when two methods are applied in combination rather than when the PF fiber content and bonding of fireproofing gypsum board are utilized individually.
Statement of problem: Modification of titanium implant surface has potential to ensure clinically favorable performance that several surface modification technologies have been introduced. Among the methods. anodizing method and sol-gel hydroxyapatite coating method have gained much interest due to its roughness and chemical composition of the coating layer, but more of its biocompatibility result is required. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare bone-implant interface shear strength of four different surface treated implants as time elapsed. Resonance frequency analysis(RFA) and removal torque measurement methods were employed to measure implant stability at one week and six week after implantation. Material and method: A total of 80 screw-shaped implant [20 machined, 20 resorbable media blasted(RBM), 20 anodized, and 20 anodized+hydroxyapatite sol-gel coated] were prepared, and one of each group was implanted in the tibia of a New Zealand white rabbit that total 20 of them were used. In order to test the implant stability and implant-tissue interface contact changing in the bone bed, each 10 rabbit were sacrificed 1 week and 6 week later while resonance frequency and removal torque were measured. One-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test were used for statistical analysis. Results : The results were as follows. 1. There was no statistically significant difference of implant stability quotients(ISQ) value in RFA between individual groups after 1 week of implantation and 6 weeks(p>0.05). But, there was statistically significant increase of ISQ value in 6 weeks group compared to 1 week group(p<0.05). 2. There was no statistically significant difference in removal torque analysis between individual groups after 1 week of implantation and 6 weeks(p>0.05). but there was statistically significant increase in all 4 groups after 6 weeks compared to 1 week later(p<0.05). 3. There was no statistically significant difference in removal torque analysis between anodized group and HA coating after anodic oxidation 6 weeks later(p>0.05), but significant difference was appeared in both groups compared to RBM group and smooth-machined group(p<0.05). Conclusions : It can be suggested that changes in surface characteristics affect bone reactions. Anodized and anodized+hydroxyapatite sol-gel coating showed significantly improved bone tissue response to implants, but further study on the effect of hydroxyapatite dissolution is needed.
To understand the effects of the cooling water system of the power plant on the succession of sessile zoobenthos, a series of experiments were carried out at the cooling water system of Samchonpo Power Plant from Hay 1985 to May 1986. The lowest species diversity of the zoobenthos was observed at the discharge canal. This is probably caused by both increased velocity and temperature of circulating water. It is also noticeable that species composition of the zoobenthos, to a certain degree, was affected due to the impingement of meroplankton during the entrainment process. While the number of species attached on the experimental substrata installed in the thermally altered area is smaller than that in the intake canal, the biomass is increased as the increased temperature eliminates some species and in turn stimulates reproduction and growth of the others. It is interesting that relatively high similarity exists between the summer communities in the intake canal and the spring communities in the thermally altered area, and the same relationship is also found between the fall communities in the intake canal and the winter communities in the thermally altered area. Ecological index curves of the zoobenthos of the intake canal follows the fluctuation pattern of the thermally altered area in one or two months of elapsed time, probably due to temperature increase by the inflow of heated water discharged from the power plant.
In order to prove physiological function of ${\beta}-Glucan$ isolated from barley flour by enzymatic method, in vitro experiments simulating the passive membrane transport of gastrointestinal tract were carried out using dialysis membrane. The yield of ${\beta}-Glucan$ from barley flour was $6.2{\%}$ and its constituents were determined to give $81.6{\%}$ total dietary fiber, $72.9{\%}$ soluble dietary fiber, $8.7{\%}$ insoluble dietary fiber, $8.5{\%}$ moisture, $2.5{\%}$ protein and $7.4{\%}$ ash. The water holding capacity of the ${\beta}-Glucan$ preparation was 6 g water/g dry material. The glucose retardation index after 30 minute dialysis was $13.5{\%}$ in the presence of $3{\%}$${\beta}-Glucan$. As the dialysis period became longer, the retarding effect toward glucose absorption decreased and the effect was close to zero after 2 hour dialysis. The bile acid retardation index after 30 minute dialysis was 3, 12 and $18{\%}$ in the presence of 1, 3 and $5{\%}$${\beta}-Glucan$, respectively. The effect was higher than the glucose retardation index and decreased as the dialysis time elapsed.

Purpose: Neonicotinoid insecticides are widely used as they have been proven by experimental studies to have low toxicity to mammals, including humans. As the use of neonicotioids increases, the number of patients with neonicotinoid poisoning has also increased. We conducted a study to investigate the clinical manifestations of neonicotinid poisoning. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the patients who ingested neonicotinids and who visited the emergency department located in Korea from March 2002 to February 2010. We reviewed the patients' age, gender, the amount of exposure, the elapsed time to presentation, the treatment and the outcome. According to the poisoning severity score, we divided the patients with a Poisoning severity score (PSS) of 0 or 1 into the mild/moderate toxicity group and the patients with a PSS of 2 or 3 into the severe/fatal toxicity group. Results: A total of 24 patients were analyzed. The most common clinical manifestations of neonicotinoid insecticide toxicity were gastrointestinal symptoms (66.7%) such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain and the others are respiratory symptoms (16.7%), cardiovascular symptoms (12.5%), metabolic imbalance (12.5%), renal dysfunction (8.3%), CNS symptoms (8.3%), and asymptomatic (29.2%). Twenty patients (83.3%) showed mild/moderate toxicity and 4 patients (16.7%) showed fatal conditions such as shock and mutiorgan failure. The mortality rate was 4.2%. In these fatal cases, the patients developed respiratory failure, hypotension, altered mentality and renal failure at the acute stage and they deteriorated to a more serious condition. This severe toxicity was caused by decreased renal excretion of neonicotinid metabolite, and this was improved after hemodialysis. Conclusion: Most patients with neonicotinoid poisoning and who showed mild toxicity usually improved after symptomatic treatment. However, some patients showed significant toxicity with respiratory failure and renal function deterioration, and intensive care needed, including mechanical ventilation and hemodialysis.

The objective of this study is to optimize the leaching conditions of sequential leaching and extracting processes for selective Ni recovery from spent Ni-Mo-based catalyst. The selective Ni recovery process consists of two processes of leaching and extracting process. In this 2-step process, Ni component is dissolved from solid spent Ni-Mo-based catalyst into leaching agent in leaching process and sequentially extracted to Ni complex with an extracting agent in the extracting process. The solutions of nitric acid ($HNO_3$), ammonium carbonate ($(NH_4)_2CO_3$) and sodium carbonate ($Na_2CO_3$) were used as a leaching agent in leaching process and oxalic acid was used as an extracting agent in extracting process. $HNO_3$ solution is the most efficient leaching agent among the various leaching agent. Also, the optimized leaching conditions for the efficient and selective Ni recovery were the leaching temperature of $90^{\circ}C,\;HNO_3$ concentration of 6.25 vol% and elapsed time of 3 h. As a result, Nickel oxalate having the highest yield of 88.7% and purity of 100% was obtained after sequentially leaching and extracting processes under the optimized leaching conditions.

In this study, the results of applying cold weather concreting mixed with Accelerator for Freeze Protection(AFP) to full scale structures are presented. Since the determination of W/C and amount of AFP significantly have an effect on strength gain and protection of frost damage in early, a full investigation is needed to determine these values at stage of nux design. The flowability of fresh cold weather concreting with AFP was similar to the same W/C. Lower loss of workability and initial slump flow of concrete using superplasticizer of polycarboxylic ester than that of melamine sulphonate showed that polycarboxylic ester was more effective on elapsed time. Temperature histories of specimens located in insulation boxes at the site was similar to that of structures. Thus, it is cleared that simple adiabatic curing method is effective for evaluating in-place concrete strength than specimens cured by sealing method. The investigation results of development of compressive strength of cold weather concreting included AFP with curing methods by logistic curves indicated that AFP can be effective to gain strength at lower temperature than normal curing temperature. In field testing, vinyl sheets were placed over the concrete sections and AFP enabled concrete to gain $5N/{mm}^2$ to protect frost damage in early ages and specified compressive strength of concrete at 28 days under average temperature of $-2^{\circ}C$ (lowest temperature was $-12^{\circ}C$) during site application.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the engineering properties of concrete for the early strength development. As a result of reviewing it by establishing each experimental factor and level, the cement had more excellent quality performance in CHC and HESPC than OPC. This study has shown that the PC series admixture was more excellent in side of elapsed time (aging) and early strength development than PNS series admixture. In addition, there was much difference according to the curing temperature, but the early strength development showed the considerable vulnerability in curing temperature below $12^{\circ}C$. To satisfy the strength requirements of 5 MPa/18 hr this study has shown that it needed the curing temperature over $17^{\circ}C$ to the minimum in OPC, over $14^{\circ}C$ in CHC, and over $11^{\circ}C$ in HESPC. On the other hand, as to the strength properties according to W/C, the less W/C was, the more strength development was excellent. If this study is to be used in construction filed on a basis of this result, this researcher is considered as possible of the economic execution of construction by advancing the early strength and by the reduction of construction cost according to shortening construction duration.
