  • This paper presents fault detection scheme of Brushless DC(BLDC) motor drive system by estimating BLDC motor resistance using motor input and output data which is transmitted from data acquisition board to host computer over serial communication channel. Since communication time delay has a serious effect on performance, we use periodic and fixed communication protocol. Hence, the delay time is priory known. Simplified BLDC motor model and recursive least square algorithm is used for estimating motor resistance. By experiment result, we confirm the proposed scheme.

  • Reflectometry that has been used to localize faults on a cable is introduced. One of the key point of reflectometry is finding time delay between the incident and reflected signals. In this paper, we propose new reflectometry that use Gaussian enveloped linear chirp signal, and use Kalman filter to estimate frequency rate parameter of the chirp signal. From the estimated frequency rate parameter, we can measure the time delay. In a simulation assuming open ended cable, the proposed method is proved to give a good estimation results.

  • Most robust control schemes for stabilizing the systems with uncertainties require that the systems are satisfied with matching conditions. This paper is proposed to robust control using the time delay estimation for the nonlinear single input systems not satisfying the matching conditions. Synthetic input concept is used to design the control law. The unmatched uncertainties considered in this paper are more general than other studies and they need not a special form or information about their bound. We applied the proposed method to a single pendulum with a motor system.

  • This article investigates how to adaptively predict the time-varying metrology delay that could realistically occur in the semiconductor manufacturing practice. Metrology delays pose a great challenge for the existing run-to-run (R2R) controllers, driving the process output significantly away from target if not adequately predicted. First, the expected asymptotic double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) control output, by using the EWMA and recursive least squares (RLS) prediction methods, is derived. It has been found that the relationships between the expected control output and target in both estimation methods are parallel, and six cases are addressed. Within the context of time-varying metrology delay, this paper presents a modified recursive least squares-linear trend (RLS-LT) controller, in combination with runs test. Simulated single input-single output (SISO) R2R processes subject to various time-varying metrology delay scenarios are used as a testbed to evaluate the proposed algorithms. The simulation results indicate that the modified RLS-LT controller can yield the process output more accurately on target with smaller mean squared error (MSE) than the original RLSLT controller that only deals with constant metrology delays.

  • Identification of a process in closed-loop control system is an important problem in practice. This paper deals with parameter estimation using input-output data of the process operating in a closed-loop system. It is necessary to determine orders and delay-time to get consistent estimators by least square method for input-output data collected from the process. The authors considered a problem to determine delay-time in the condition that orders were known, in last KACC. So we extend the range to determine orders and delay-time in this paper.

  • Internet roundtrip delay/time (RTT) prediction plays an important role in detecting packet losses in reliable transport protocols for traditional web applications and determining proper transmission rates in many rate-based TCP-friendly protocols for Internet-based real-time applications. The widely adopted autoregressive and moving average (ARMA) model with fixed-parameters is shown to be insufficient for all scenarios due to its intrinsic limitation that it filters out all high-frequency components of RTT dynamics. In this paper, we introduce a novel parameter-varying RTT model for Internet roundtrip time prediction based on the information theory and the maximum entropy principle (MEP). Since the coefficients of the proposed RTT model are updated dynamically, the model is adaptive and it tracks RTT dynamics rapidly. The results of our experiments show that the MEP algorithm works better than the ARMA method in both RTT prediction and RTO estimation.

  • Time-delay control with internal model (TDCIM) is the controller for robot manipulators that applies the time-delay estimation and the concept of internal model control (IMC). TDCIM is robust against unknown dynamics and non-linear friction like coulomb friction and static friction. It is simple and computationally efficient. This study presents the relationship between the discrete TDCIM and the discrete PID controller. The PID controller is the most popular control law in the real application. But often the PID controller can be difficult to achieve the desired level of control performance. The result in this study provides a good candidate solution to these situations.

  • In crushed service areas of Metro railway lines, there are problems such as the buildup discontent, the irregular operation time and rotation of rolling stocks, caused by frequently occurred train delay. Train delay is affected by operation conditions or infrastructure capacities such as train schedule, line capacity, car rotation plan, shunting movements at origin and destination, and also by transport demand characteristics. Furthermore, a delay produce another delays and spread over the following trains. So it is not easy to build up a protection and recovery plan. In this research, we conduct experimental analysis study based on the real metro data, and as a result, present the relation between the traffic demand and the dwell time. And finally, propose future research themes for improving the operation efficiency of metro railways.

  • With the development of the multicast technology, the realtime strategy among the group applications using the multicast routing is getting more important. An essential factor of these real-time application is to optimize the Delay- and delay Variation-Bounded Multicast Tree(DVBMT) problem. This problem is to satisfy the minimum delay variation and the end-to-end delay within an upper bound. The DVBMT problem is known as NP-complete problem. The representative algorithms for the problem are DVMA, DDVCA, and so on. In this paper, we show that the proposed algorithm outperforms any other algorithm. The efficiency of our algorithm is verified through the prerformance evaluation and the enhancement is up to about 9% to 29% in terms of the multicast delay variation. The time complexity of our algorithm is $O(mn^2)$M.

  • VDF(volume-delay function) is one of the most important factor to improve the reliability of traffic demand estimation because it is for estimation of link travel time based on the traffic volume variation. Because VDF of link except for freeway is applied as the parameter of BPR(bureau of public road) of U.S., it causes to deteriorate the accuracy of traffic demand estimation. The purpose of this paper is to establish new parameter of VDF based on the real-surveyed traffic data in order to improve the problem of the existing VDF. We suggest the reclassification of road hierarchy, the approach of traffic survey, the estimating method of VDF parameter, and the improvements of new VDF application. The new VDF allows us to estimate more realistic traffic situation in parts of demand, travel time and path between origin-destination.
