  • Objective: The arm swing is associated with gait ability in healthy young adults. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of arm swing during gait in healthy young adults. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty-five subjects without any orthopedic or neurological injuries participated in this study. All subjects performed all three conditions according to the arm swing type as follows: first procedure (condition 1), walking as usual without arm swing constraint; second procedure (condition 2), constraint of dominant arm swing walking as usual; third procedure (condition 3), constraint of both arm swing walking as usual. Gait parameters such as gait velocity, stride length, cadence, step time, single limb support, and double limb support were measured in all arm swing conditions performed randomly, with the mean value obtained from three measurements. A rest period of 5 minutes was given to prevent repetition of each condition and learning effect. All data was analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA to notice the changes between arm swing conditions. Results: Within walking conditions, significant difference of gait velocity, stride length, cadence, and double limb support was noticed (p<0.05), except step time and single limb support. Gait velocity and stride length were significant reduced, and in cadence and double limb support were increased (p<0.05). Condition 3 had the most significant decrease of gait ability compared with condition 1 (p<0.05). Conclusions: These finding suggested that constraint arm swing conditions reduced gait ability in healthy young adults. Also, these findings can be utilized as a reference to future studies that not only pelvic, knee and ankle, but also upper limb affect to gait ability.

  • The existing access control models have the demerits that do not provide the limit function of using resources by time constraint, the restricted inheritance function as a superior role in role hierarchy, the delicate delegation policy and the limit function of using resources by the location information about a user for the access control in ubiquitous environment. This paper proposes an Extended-GTRBAC model is suited to the access control in ubiquitous environment by applying to sub-role concept of GTRBAC model that the application of resources can be restricted by the period and time and PBDM and considering the location information about a user on temporal constraint. The proposal model can restrict the inheritance of permission in role hierarchy by using sub-role, provide the delicate delegation policy such as user-to-user delegation, role to role delegation, multi-level delegation. multi-step delegation, and apply diverse and delicate access control policy which is suited the characteristic of ubiquitous environment by considering the location information about a user on temporal constraint.

  • Optical flow estimation based on multi constraint approaches is frequently used for recognition of moving objects. However, the use have been confined because of OF estimation time as well as error problem. This paper shows a new method form effectively extracting movement information using the multi-constraint base approaches with sobel edge detection. The moving objects anr extraced in the input image sequence using edge detection and segmentation. Edge detection and difference of the two input image sequence gives us the moving objects in the images. The process of thresholding removes the moving objects detected due to noise. After thresholding the real moving objects, we applied the Combinatorial Hough Transform (CHT) and voting accumulation to find the optimal constraint lines for optical flow estimation. The moving objects found in the two consecutive images by using edge detection and segmentation greatly reduces the time for comutation of CHT. The voting based CHT avoids the errors associated with least squares methods. Calculation of a large number of points along the constraint line is also avoided by using the transformed slope-intercept parameter domain. The simulation results show that the proposed method is very effective for extracting optical flow vectors and hence recognizing moving objects in the images.

  • We developed a time-lapse inversion using new cross-model constraints based on change ratio and resolution of model parameters. The cross-model constraint based on change ratio imposes the same penalty on the model parameters with equal change ratio. This constraint can emphasize the model parameters with significant change regardless of their increase or decrease. The resolution cross-model constraint imposes a small penalty on the model parameters with poor resolution, but a large penalty on the model parameters with good resolution. Thus, the model parameter with poor resolution can be effectively identified in the inversion result if they are significantly changed with time. Through the numerical tests for 3D resistivity monitoring data sets, the performance of these two cross-model constraints was confirmed. Finally, for the safety estimation of a sea dyke, we applied the developed time-lapse inversion to the 3D resistivity monitoring data that were acquired at a sea dike located in western coastal area of Korea. The result of time-lapse inversion suggested that there were no significant changes at the sea dike during the monitoring period.

  • The resistivity monitoring is a practical method to resolve changes in resistivity of underground structures over time. With the advance of sophisticated automatic data acquisition system and rapid data communication technology, resistivity monitoring has been widely applied to understand spatio-temporal changes of subsurface. In this study, a new 4D inversion algorithm is developed, which can effectively emphasize significant changes of underground resistivity with time. To overcome the overly smoothing problem in 4D inversion, the Lagrangian multipliers in the space-domain and time-domain are determined automatically so that the proportion of the model constraints to the misfit roughness remains constant throughout entire inversion process. Furthermore, a focusing model constraint is added to emphasize significant spatio-temporal changes. The performance of the developed algorithm is demonstrated by the numerical experiments using the synthetic data set for a time-lapse model.

  • Content security and privacy protection are important issues in emerging network-based video surveillance applications. Especially, satisfying both real-time constraint and energy efficiency with embedded system-based video sensors is challenging since the battery-operated sensors need to compress and protect video content in real-time. In this paper, we propose a multicore-based solution to compress and protect video surveillance data, and evaluate the effectiveness of the solution in terms of both real-time constraint and energy efficiency. Based on the experimental results with MPEG2/AES software, we confirm that the multicore-based solution can improve the energy efficiency of a singlecore-based solution by a factor of 30 under the real-time constraint.

  • This study was performed to find out optimum drying conditions of red pepper to minimize energy consumption and drying time, respectively, under the quality constraint using Box's complex method. The results from this study are summarized as follows. 1. From the optimization results for the drying process, energy consumption was minimized at the drying condition to minimize drying time. 2. The optimization results according to drying method was found out to be greatly affected by the quality constraint of red pepper. Especially, the turning point to change drying stage was a very important factor in the drying method with two stages.

  • In this paper, we suggested the integer linear programming (ILP) models that went through constraint scheduling to simple cycle operation during the delay time. The delayed scheduling can determine a schedule with a near-optimal number of control steps for given fixed hardware constraints. In this paper, the resource-constrained problem is addressed, for the DFG optimization for multiprocessor design problem, formulating ILP solution available to provide optimal solution. The results show that the scheduling method is able to find good quality schedules in reasonable time.

  • In order to regulate the cutting force at a desired level during peripheral end milling processes a feedrate override Adaptive Control Constraint (ACC) system was developed. The feedrate override function was accomplished through a development of programmable machine controller (PMC) interface technique on the NC controller, Nonlinear model of the cutting process was linearized as an adaptive model with a time varying process parameter. An integral type estimator was introduced for on-line estimation of the cutting process parameter, Zero order hold digital control methodology which uses pole-assignment concept for tuning of PI controllers was applied for the ACC system. Performance of the ACC system wsa confirmed on the vertical machining center equipped with fanuc OMC through a large amount of experiment.

  • In this paper, nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) is addressed to develop formation guidance for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles. An NMPC algorithm predicts the behavior of a system over a receding time horizon, and the NMPC generates the optimal control commands for the horizon. The first input command is, then, applied to the system and this procedure repeats at each time step. The input constraint and state constraint for formation flight and inter-collision avoidance are considered in the proposed NMPC framework. The performance of NMPC for formation guidance critically degrades when there exists a communication failure. In order to address this problem, the modified optimal guidance law using only line-of-sight, relative distance, and own motion information is presented. If this information can be measured or estimated, the proposed formation guidance is sustainable with the communication failure. The performance of this approach is validated by numerical simulations.
