In this paper, in order to verify the performance of a localization algorithm using GPS as an auxiliary sensor, the algorithm was applied to a hovering-type autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to perform a field test. The applied algorithm is an algorithm to improve the accumulated positional error of dead reckoning using doppler velocity logger(DVL) and tilt-compensated compass module (TCM) mounted on the AUV. GPS when surfaced helps the algorithm to estimate the position and the heading bias error of TCM for geodetic north, which makes it possible to perform dead reckoning on north-east-down (NED) coordinates. As a result of field test performing heading control, it was judged that the algorithm could improve the positional error, enhance the operational capability of AUV and contribute to the research of underwater navigation depending on a magnetic compass.

Determination of the local vertical is not trivial for a moving vehicle and in general will require corrections for the Earth geophysical deflection. The vehicle's local vertical can be estimated by INS integration with initial alignment in SDINS(Strap Down INS) system. In general, the INS has drift error and it cause the performance degradation. In order to compensate the drift error, GPS/INS augmented system is widely used. And in the event that GPS is denied or unavailable, celestial navigation using star tracker can be a backup navigation system especially for the military purpose. In this celestial navigation system, the vehicle's position determination can be achieved using more than two star trackers, and the accuracy of position highly depends on accuracy of local vertical direction. Modern tilt sensors or accelerometers are sensitive to the direction of gravity to arc second(or better) precision. The local gravity provides the direction orthogonal to the geoid and, appropriately corrected, toward the center of the Earth. In this paper the relationship between direction of center of the Earth and actual gravity direction caused by geophysical deflection was analyzed by using precision orbit simulation program embedded the JGM-3 geoid model. And the result was verified and evaluated with mathematical gravity vector model derived from gravitational potential of the Earth. And also for application purpose, the performance variation of pure INS navigation system was analyzed by applying precise gravity model.
In order to acquire the images requested by users, it is very important to calculate mission schedule parameters such as imaging execution time and attitude tilt angle accurately. These parameters are based on orbit prediction. This paper describes the accuracy of orbit propagation for image planning. The orbit prediction data from PSS and MAPS has a certain discrepancy due to different orbit propagator. It is necessary for mission planner to confirm this value during mission planning phase. The pointing error which means the difference between target center and real image received is calculated and analyzed using KOMPSAT-2 image data.
UVO-Multiband Polarizing Imager System (UVOMPIS) is an ultraviolet to visible light multi-wavelength polarization/imaging system for Compact Advanced Satellite. We developed Linear Astigmatism Free-Three Mirror System (LAF-TMS) D200F2 as an optical system of UVOMPIS which has an entrance pupil diameter of 200 mm, a focal ratio of 2, a field of view of 2° × 4°. LAF-TMS is a confocal off-axis reflecting telescope system that removes linear astigmatism, and its all mirrors (M1, M2, M3) are optimized with the freeform surface to reduce high-order aberrations. Through the sensitivity analysis and Monte-Carlo simulation as the tolerance analysis, we can confirm the feasibility of the system, relatively sensitive parameters (tilt, decenter, despace, surface RMS error), and considerations for optomechanical design. From the sensitivity analysis, we can discover the relatively sensitive optical alignment parameters to a single perturbation. Further more, in the monte-carlo simulation, we investigate the minimum tolerance budget satisfying the required optical performance and whether the tolerance range is satisfied within manufacturing error.
In this paper, we introduce an upper extremity rehabilitation robot, NREH (NRC End-effector based Rehabilitation arm at Home). Through NREH, stroke survivors could continuously exercise their upper extremities at home. NREH allows a user to hold the handle of the end-effector of the robot arm. NREH is a end-effector-based robot that moves the arm on a two-dimensional plane, but the tilt angle can be adjusted to mimic a movement similar to that in a three-dimensional space. Depending on the tilting angle, it is possible to perform customized exercises that can adjust the difficulty for each user. The user can sit down facing the robot and perform exercises such as arm reaching. When the user sits 90 degrees sideways, the user can also exercise their arms on a plane parallel to the sagittal plane. NREH was designed to be as simple as possible considering its use at home. By applying error augmentation, the exercise effect can be increased, and assistance force or resistance force can be applied as needed. Using an encoder on two actuators and a force/torque sensor on the end-effector, NREH can continuously collect and analyze the user's movement data.

This paper describes a design and implementation of fuzzy-based algorithm for hand-shake state detection and error compensation in the mobile optical image stabilization(OIS) motion detector. Since the gyro sensor output of the OIS motion detector includes inherent error signals, accurate error correction is required for prompt hand-shake error compensation and stable hand-shake state detection. In this research with a little computation overhead of fuzzy-based algorithm, the hand-shake error compensation could be improved by quickly reducing the angle and phase error for the hand-shake frequencies. Further, stability of the OIS system could be enhanced by the hand-shake states of {Halt, Little vibrate, Big vibrate, Pan/Tilt}, classified by subdividing the hand-shake angle. The performance and stability of the proposed algorithm in OIS motion detector is quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated with the emulated hand-shaking of ${\pm}0.5^{\circ}$, ${\pm}0.8^{\circ}$ vibration and 2~12Hz frequency. In experiments, the average error compensation gain of 3.71dB is achieved with respect to the conventional BACF/DCF algorithm; and the four hand-shake states are detected in a stable manner.
In this study, we investigated alignment state estimation performances of the three methods i.e. merit function regression (MFR), differential wavefront sampling (DWS) and Multiple Design Configuration Optimization (MDCO). The three target optical systems are 1) a two-mirror Cassegrain system for deep space Earth observation, 2) intermediate size three-mirror anastigmat for Earth ocean monitoring, and 3) extremely large segmented optical system for astronomical observation. We ran alignment state estimation simulation for several alignment perturbation cases including 1mm to 10mm in decenter and from 0.1 to 1 degree in tilt perturbation error for the two-mirror Cassegrain system. In general, we note that MDCO shows more competitive estimation performance than MFR and DWS. The computational concept, case definition and the simulation results are discussed with implications to future works.
This paper introduces adaptive PRML (Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) architecture with PR (a,b,c,d,e) channel type for the improved readability of high-density optical discs with capacity greater than 30GB. The proposed PRML architecture consists of an adaptive equalizer, a Viterbi detector and a channel identifier. Detailed description for each component is included. The architecture is implemented in chip and also confirmed its performance on the test board mounting the chip. Test results show that the proposed 5-tap PRML architecture is well operated, and less than $2{\times}10^{-4}$ of BER (Bit Error Rate) is achieved with radial and tangential tilt margin of ${\pm}0.6^{\circ}$ on self-made 30GB BD at 1x speed.

This paper presents a partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detection method using partial response signal-to-noise ratio (PRSNR) that evaluates the signal quality of asymmetric optical recording channel. It is confirmed that the equalizer maximizing the PRSNR value can be most properly adapted to the asymmetric optical recording channel. The proposed PRML detection using this result has 1.8dB SNR gain at $8.5{\times}10-5$ bit error rate compared to PRML detection using typical adaptive equalizer.

A human gaze detection and tracing method is importantly required for HMI(Human-Machine-Interface) like a Human-Serving robot. This paper proposed a novel three-dimension (3D) human gaze estimation method by using a face recognition, an orientation estimation and SVMs (Support Vector Machines). 2,400 images with the pan orientation range of $-90^{\circ}{\sim}90^{\circ}$ and tilt range of $-40^{\circ}{\sim}70^{\circ}$ with intervals unit of $10^{\circ}$ were used. A stereo camera was used to obtain the global coordinate of the center point between eyes and Gabor filter banks of horizontal and vertical orientation with 4 scales were used to extract the facial features. The experiment result shows that the error rate of proposed method is much improved than Liddell's.
