흰쥐에서 후두하경로를 통한 하수체 적출술의 개량과 하수체 적출 흰쥐를 이용한 bGH 효능시험 (Improved Hypophysectomy Technique by Sublaryngeal A, pp.oach and the Efficacy of bGH in Hypophysectomized Female Rats)

  • Improved hypophysectomy technique and the efficacy of bGH in hypophysectomized female rats were studied as a basis for the function of endocrine gland and hormones. 1. With improved sublaryngeal a, pp.oach by hypophysectomy, 34 rats out of 40 were successfully hypophysectomized(more than 80% of success). The surgical time for hypophysectomy per rat was taken about 3.0$\pm$1.0 min. 2. For the effect of hypophysectomy and bGH on body weight gain among the 5 gruops of A, B, C, D, and E, the weight gains for A, B, C, D, and E, were 93g, 9.2g, 10.7g, 25.1g and 36.2g, respectively, which implied that hypophysectomy had a major effect on body weight. And also, the effect of bGH was paralleled with the level of bGH. There were significant difference between control and hypophysectomized groups, and between the bGH treated and bGH non-treated groups after hypophysectomy(p<0.01). 3. For the effect of hypophysectomy and bGH on the length of femur, tibia, humerus, and anterbrachi, longest was for A, shortest for B, and longer in order of C, D, and E. The A group was significantly longer than B, C, D, and E groups. The B group was shorter than C, D, and E groups(p<0.01). 4. For the effect of hypophysectomy and bGH on the weight of femur, tibia, humerus, and antebrachi, heaviest was for A, lightest for B, and heavier in order of C, D, and E. The A group was significantly heavier than B, C, D, and E groups. The B group was lighter than C, D, and E groups(p<0.01). 5. In changes of body length, and weights of liver and heart, A group was most drastically increased. Among the hypophysectomized groups, the change was increased in order of B, C, D, and E. Especially, the change of A group was significantly greater than B, C, D and E gruops. However, no significant differences were found among B, C, D, and E groups. 6. The hypophysectomy in rat had a significant effect on body growth. The effect of hormone was remarkably different depending upon the level of hormone. It was found that 300$\mu\textrm{g}$ of bGH/kg of body wt/day was slightly lower for normal growth.

인공 종양대치물을 이용한 사지구제술후의 보행 분석 (Gait Analysis of Patients with Tumor Prosthesis around the Knee)

  • Prosthetic replacement is one of the most common methods of reconstruction after resection of malignant tumor around the knee. Gait analysis provides a relative objective data about the gait function of patients with prosthesis. The purpose of this study was to compare the gait pattern of the patients who underwent limb salvage surgery with prosthesis for distal femur and that of patients with prosthesis for proximal tibia. This study included ten patients (4 males, 6 females, mean age 22.7 years, range 14-36) who underwent a wide resection and Kotz hinged modular reconstruction prosthesis replacement and six normal adult(Control). The site of bone tumor was the distal femur (Group 1) in six patients and proximal tibia (Group 2) in 4 patients. The follow-up period ranged from 15 to 82 months (mean : 33 months). The evaluation consisted of clinical assessment, radiographic assessment, gait analysis using VICON 370 Motion Analysis System. The gait analysis included the linear parameters such as, walking velocity, cadence, step length, stride length, stance time, swing time, single support and double support time and the three-dimensional kinematics (joint rotation angle, velocity of joint rotation) of ankle, knee, hip and pelvis in sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. For the kinetic evaluation, the moment of force (unit: Nm/kg) and power (unit: Watt/kg) of ankle, knee and hip joint in sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. In the linear parameters, cadence, velocity, step time and single support were decreased in both group 1 and group 2 compared with control. Double support decreased in group 2 compared with control significantly(p<.05). In contrast to our hypothesis, there was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2. Comparative Study on Various Growth Performances of Korean Oge and White Leghorn Chickens

  • Genetic resource conservation of indigenous species is important to conserve terrestrial, aquatic and avian species throughout the world. The native Korean Oge (KO) chickens are important and protected indigenous avian species in Korea. This KO breed is very popular in Korea because of its external appearances of blackish color. The characterization of morphology and growth performances of KO were performed since 1980s, however the information is still not sufficient for breed selection. In this study, we compared various growth performances including body growth, tibia length, shank length, chest width, chest grith and length of tail feather between male and female chickens of KO and widely known White Leghorn (WL) breeds at 1 week, 2 weeks, 5 weeks, 10 weeks, and 24 weeks. We observed differences on various growth performances at different aged groups between KO and WL chickens. This study may help for the selection of chicken breeds based on age, body growth and meat production.

평편족의 치료로 이용한 관절고정술시 스프링인대군 (spring ligament complex)에서 strain의 변화 (The strain of the spring ligament complex at different arthrodesis of the hindfoot for treatment of the flatfoot)

  • It was well known that arthrodesis of the tarsal joint is an exellent procedure to correct the flatfoot deformity for relieving pain. Recently, concept of the selective tarsal joint fusion instead of the triple fusion was developedto preserve the joint motion. To investigate and compare the effect of the each different tarsal fusion, we measured the strain at the spring ligament, medial roof of the medial longitudianl arch. Five fresh frozen cadevar foot specimens, with distal half of the tibia were utilized. The superomedial portion of the spring ligament complex was dissected from the origin to the insertion. For each specimen, a calibrated open liquid metal strain guage was secured along the length of the superomedial portion. Under the specially devised test rig, measurement of the strain was taken at each test condition from the tare weight 18.2 lb followed by 38.2 lb., 82.2 lb and a maximum loads of 134.6 lb. : 1) unfused condition, 2) isolated subtalar fusion 3) isolated talonavicular fusion 4) combined subtalar and talonavicular fusion 5) triple fusion. Statistics showed that siginificant reduction in strain following the triple fusion, and from the subtalar fusion to triple fusion.

긴꼬리윗수염박쥐(Myotis frater)의 재포획 및 형태적 특징에 관한 연구 (Morphological Characteristics of Long-tailed Whiskered Bat Myotis frater)

  • Sightings of long-tailed bats have only been recorded twice in Korea, and their morphology and ecology are virtually unknown. We captured a female long-tailed bat in May 2016, in Gangwon Province, and to the best of our knowledge, this has been done for the first time in approximately 30 years. The captured bat had a very small craniofacial area and the length of its tibia was > 19 mm. The wing membrane penetrated the distal portion of the metatarsus of its first toe. The fur of the bat had a lusterless yellowish-brown color and its terminal tail vertebra was free beyond the posterior edge of the uropatagium. It had an obvious lambdoid crest on the lateral side. The anterior and central premolars were located inward with respect to the tooth row. In the mandible, the central premolar was located slightly inward and was nearly 80% of the anterior premolar in height.

난각 칼슘의 생체 이용성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Calcium Bioavailability of Eggshell Powder in the Growing Rats)

  • This study has investigated the bioavailability of calcium in eggshell powder (ESP) for the purpose of reutilizing eggshells as the calcium source. The experiment was designed 2 ${\times}$ 2 factorial method with two sources, CaCO$_3$ and ESP, and two levels, 0.2% and 0.4% calcium. Weanling SD rats were assigned randomly to one of 4 groups and provided by one of the isocaloric, 20% casein based 4 different experimental diets for 4weeks. Deionized water was given and environment was kept from any contamination of minerals. The body weight, diet intake, feed efficiency ratio (FER), bone growth, Ca contents of bones, and apparent absorption were measured. FER (0.38 - 0.40) and kidney weight were not different among groups and the weight and length, Ca content, strength of two bones Tibia and Femur were not affected by Ca sources except Femur Ca content. Ca content of Femur was greater in ESP groups than that of CaCO$_3$ groups. The body weight gain, bone growth, the Ca contents and strength of bones were significantly greater in 0.4% calcium groups suggesting 0.2% calcium is not sufficient for the optimum growth in the growing rats. These results indicate that ESP be a proper Ca source comparable or superior to CaCO$_3$. However the apparent absorption rate of final 3 days of feeding did not support the observed results showing lower rate in ESP than CaCO$_3$ groups. Further study be needed in the absorption aspect.

소아의 대퇴골 원위부 골단에 발생한 혈관종 (Juvenile Hemangioma Occurred in Distal Femoral Epiphysis)

  • 골성 골단에서 발생하는 혈관종은 극히 드물어서 그 보고를 찾아보기가 쉽지 않다. 우측 슬관절부 동통과 굴곡 구축을 주소로 내원한 5세 환아로 단순 방사선 및 자기공명영상 소견상, 대퇴골 원위부 골단 및 근위부 경골에서 병변을 보였으며, 생검한 결과 혈관종으로 진단되었다. 8년간 추시 관찰하였으며, 대퇴골 원위부 골단에 발생한 혈관종은 치유되었으며, 경골 근위부 골단에 발생한 병변도 치료없이 자연적으로 소실되었다. 또한, 하지 길이의 단축이나 슬관절 기능 장애는 발생하지 않았다.

슬관절 재전치환술용 경골삽입물 형상이 접촉압력 분포에 미치는 영향 (Effect of stem design on contact pressure distribution of end-of-stem in revision TKR)

  • In this study, the effect of stem-end design on contact pressure and stress distribution in revision TKR was investigated using finite element method. The finite element model of tibia, including the cortical bone, the cancellous bone and canal, was developed based on CT images. The stem models with various stem lengths, diameters and frictional coefficients, and press-fit effects were considered. The results showed that the longer stem length, the stronger press-fit, the bigger stem diameter, and the higher frictional coefficient increased both peak contact pressure and the highest Von-Mises stress values. We hypothesized that peak contact pressure and Von-Mises stress distribution around the stem, may be related to the stem end pain. The results of this study will be useful to design the stem endand reduce the end-of-stem pain in revision TKR.

음곡 육종용 약침이 난소적출 생쥐의 골다공증에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Herbal-Acupuncture with Cistanches Herba Extract at KI10 (Eumgok) on Osteoporosis in Ovariectomized Mice)

  • Objective & Methods : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Cistanches Herba herbal-acupuncture (CH-HA) at KI10 (Umgok) on osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy in mice. The results were as follows; Results : CH-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibia, the elevation of serum osteocalcin level, the reduction of tibial Ca and P level, the increase of tibial osteoclast like cells, the reduction of tibial TBV (trabecular bone volume), the overgrowth of tibial GPL (growth plate length) in ovariectomized mice. NP at KI10 significantly inhibited the reduction of BMD (bone mineral density) in ovariectomized mice, but CH-HA did not. Conclusion : Taken together, CH-HA at KI10 has a protective or therapeutic effect for osteoporosis in ovariectomized mice. Therefore, it is suggested that CH-HA may be an useful therapeutics in clinical filed after further researches.

Soldanellonyx monardi (Acari, Halacaridae), a Freshwater Halacarid Species Newly Recorded from Korea

  • Soldanellonyx monardi Walter, 1919, a halacarid species is newly recorded from South Korea, as the second member for the freshwater halacarid mites in Korea after S. chappuisi Walter, 1917 reported from Gossi-gul Cave, a limestone cave at Yeongwol in 1968. It was collected from three wells in the southeastern part of Korean peninsula this year. Korean specimens are well accorded with S. monardi s. str. in having telofemur I less than 1.5 times longer than wide, two spiniform setae on the ventral side of tibia I, relatively longer anterior dorsal plate (slightly longer than its width and about half the length of posterior dorsal plate), and the posterior epimeral plates lacking a dorsal seta. Based on the Korean specimens, a brief table for the morphological differences between adult females and deutonymphs are provided, which shows a tendency of rather consistent increment according to growth in the number of spiniform dorsal setae on telofemora and genua of legs I and II, the number of perigenital setae, and the number of genital acetabula. In this paper, detailed redescription and a brief table for the morphological differences between adult females and deutonymphs of S. monardi are provided.
