In this letter, a modified 802.11-based opportunistic spectrum access is proposed for single-channel cognitive radio networks where primary users operate on a slot-by-slot basis. In our opportunistic spectrum access, control frames are used to reduce the slot-boundary impact and achieve channel reservation to improve throughput of secondary users. An absorbing Markov chain model is used to analyze the throughput of secondary users. Simulation results show that the analysis accurately predicts the saturation throughput.
In IEEE 802.16j standard document, two modes about usage of RS are proposed; one is transparent mode to enhance data throughput and the other is non-transparent mode to extend coverage. In this paper, we focus on non-transparent mode and find that the mode also affects data throughput. We analyze data throughput on various RS topology and their extended coverage area in non-transparent mode. From the analysis, we see that higher throughput can be obtained when MR-BS and RS are located distantly.

In this paper, we designed the main mechanism of high throughput device for rod-cuts of spent fuel. For this, we analyzed the mechanical methods(slitting, ball mill, roller straightening) and chemical methods(muffle furnace, rotary kiln). As the results, methods of ball drop and rotary drum for concepts design were selected in the analysis step. For enhancement of oxidation rate, we devised the blades on the reactor with mesh type. Also, for enhancement of decladding rate, we designed ball size and rotation reactor with mesh type and devised the vacuum system for fission products. Mechanisms of oxidation and recovery can simultaneously handle the rod-cuts of spent fuel and independently recover. The results of mechanism design can be used for scale-up of high throughput device.

Network coding improves TCP's performance in lossy wireless networks. However, the complex congestion window evolution of network coded TCP (TCP-NC) makes the analysis of end-to-end throughput challenging. This paper analyzes the evolutionary process of TCP-NC against lossy links. An analytic model is established by applying a two-dimensional Markov chain. With maximum window size, end-to-end erasure rate and redundancy parameter as input parameters, the analytic model can reflect window evolution and calculate end-to-end throughput of TCP-NC precisely. The key point of our model is that by the novel definition of the states of Markov chain, both the number of related states and the computation complexity are substantially reduced. Our work helps to understand the factors that affect TCP-NC's performance and lay the foundation of its optimization. Extensive simulations on NS2 show that the analytic model features fairly high accuracy.
Proteomics for biomarker validation needs high throughput instrumentation to analyze huge set of clinical samples for quantitative and reproducible analysis at a minimum time without manual experimental errors. Sample preparation, a vital step in proteomics plays a major role in identification and quantification of proteins from biological samples. Tryptic digestion a major check point in sample preparation for mass spectrometry based proteomics needs to be more accurate with rapid processing time. The present study focuses on establishing a high throughput automated online system for proteolytic digestion and desalting of proteins from biological samples quantitatively and qualitatively in a reproducible manner. The present study compares online protein digestion and desalting of BSA with conventional off-line (in-solution) method and validated for real time sample for reproducibility. Proteins were identified using SEQUEST data base search engine and the data were quantified using IDEALQ software. The present study shows that the online system capable of handling high throughput samples in 96 well formats carries out protein digestion and peptide desalting efficiently in a reproducible and quantitative manner. Label free quantification showed clear increase of peptide quantities with increase in concentration with much linearity compared to off line method. Hence we would like to suggest that inclusion of this online system in proteomic pipeline will be effective in quantification of proteins in comparative proteomics were the quantification is really very crucial.
Ring networks are very commonly exploited among local area and metropolitan area networks (LAN/MAN), whereas cells or small fixed-size packets are widely used in synchronized ring networks. In this paper, we present an analytical method for evaluating the delay-throughput performance of a MAC protocol with multiple self-tokens in a slotted ring network under uniform traffic. In our analysis, we introduce the stationary probability, which indicates the number of packets in a node. Also, it is assumed that each node has a sufficiently large amount of self-tokens, and a slotted ring has the symmetry. The analytical results with respect to delay-throughput performance have similar values to computer simulated ones. Furthermore, in order to achieve fair access under non-uniform traffic, we propose an adaptive MAC protocol, where the number of self-tokens in a node dynamically varies, based on the number of packets transmitted within a specified period. In the proposed protocol, when the number of packets transmitted by a node within a specified period is larger than a specified threshold, the node decreases the number of self-tokens in a per-node distributed method. That results in creating free slots in the ring, thus all nodes can obtain an equal opportunity to transmit into the ring. Performance results obtained by computer simulation show that our proposed protocol can maintain throughput fairness under non-uniform traffic.

In this paper, we investigate a buffer-aided wireless powered cooperative communication network (WPCCN), in which the source and relay harvest the energy from a dedicated power beacon via wireless energy transfer, then the source transmits the data to the destination through the relay. Both the source and relay are equipped with an energy buffer to store the harvested energy in the energy transfer stage. In addition, the relay is equipped with a data buffer and can temporarily store the received information. Considering the buffer-aided WPCCN, we propose two buffer-aided relaying protocols, which named as the buffer-aided harvest-then-transmit (HtT) protocol and the buffer-aided joint mode selection and power allocation (JMSPA) protocol, respectively. For the buffer-aided HtT protocol, the time-averaged achievable rate is obtained in closed form. For the buffer-aided JMSPA protocol, the optimal adaptive mode selection scheme and power allocation scheme, which jointly maximize the time-averaged throughput of system, are obtained by employing the Lyapunov optimization theory. Furthermore, we drive the theoretical bounds on the time-averaged achievable rate and time-averaged delay, then present the throughput-delay tradeoff achieved by the joint JMSPA protocol. Simulation results validate the throughput performance gain of the proposed buffer-aided relaying protocols and verify the theoretical analysis.
This study presents a novel DNA part characterization technique that increases throughput by combinatorial DNA part assembly, solid plate-based quantitative fluorescence assay for phenotyping, and barcode tagging-based long-read sequencing for genotyping. We confirmed that the fluorescence intensities of colonies on plates were comparable to fluorescence at the single-cell level from a high-end, flow-cytometry device and developed a high-throughput image analysis pipeline. The barcode tagging-based long-read sequencing technique enabled rapid identification of all DNA parts and their combinations with a single sequencing experiment. Using our techniques, forty-four DNA parts (21 promoters and 23 RBSs) were successfully characterized in 72 h without any automated equipment. We anticipate that this high-throughput and easy-to-use part characterization technique will contribute to increasing part diversity and be useful for building genetic circuits and metabolic pathways in synthetic biology.

Screw conveyors are used extensively in industrial for conveying and elevating materials. Despite their apparent simplicity, the mechanics of the conveying action is very complex. so many engineers depend on experiential data. Capacities of screw are pumping, steady flow of polymer melts, steady volumetric throughput etc. they are affected by geometry of screw, heat flux, pressure on inside barrel, rotating velocity, friction coefficient at screw surface etc. by computation volumetric efficiency increases as rotating velocity increases and decreases as friction coefficient increases. also it decreases with short pitch length. and double flight screw is more effective than single flight screw. The temperature of polymer melts by heating pad and injection pressure play a very important role in the injection molding machine. so in this paper we analyze thermal distortion and stress of screw includes pressure and temperature distributions by finite element analysis to understand what design factors influence on volumetric throughput efficiency of the screw and thermo-mechanical characteristics of screw.
This paper deals with a case study of workload analysis of an operator in an automatic line for machining the race of ball bearing. Eleven machines and three hoppers are installed in the line which is operated by an operator. The elements of operation are separated into machine controlled elements, operator controlled elements and machine/operator controlled elements. In order to analyze the system, time and motion studies are used for gathering input data for the simulation model. The first objective of this study is to evaluate whether the workload of operator is reasonable or not. The second objective is to increase throughput by reducing tact time and the last one is to increase frequencies of inspection by reducing interval. Thus we suggest some ideas for improvement, and as a result, the throughput is improved about 9%. In spite of the increasing of throughput, the allowance of operator is also increased about 4%.
