Recently, fluidic thrust vector control has become a core technique to control multifarious air vehicles, such as supersonic aircraft and modern rockets. Fluidic thrust vector control using the shock vector concept has many advantages for achieving great vectoring performance, such as fast vectoring response, simple structure, and low weight. In this paper, computational fluid dynamics methods are used to study a three-dimensional rectangular supersonic nozzle with a slot injector. To evaluate the reliability and stability of computational methodology, the numerical results were validated with experimental data. The pressure distributions along the upper and lower nozzle walls in the symmetry plane showed an excellent match with the test results. Several numerical simulations were performed based on the shear stress transport(SST) $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The effect of the momentum flux ratio was investigated thoroughly, and the performance variations have been clearly illustrated.
A test facility to measure the performance of a KM(Kick Motor) is constructed, and prediction of blast wave propagation over the facility is performed to check if the safety of test personnel in MCC(Main Control Center) can be guaranteed even for the most severe explosion. Assuming that the initial explosion energy is contained in a sphere under the pressure of 500, 1000, 1500 psi, respectively, the radius of the sphere is determined for each pressure to set the mass of contained explosion gas to 35 kg. The material properties of explosion gas are set to be the ones of KM propellant combustion gas under normal condition. To reduce the effort and time required for a complex three-dimensional modeling, the flowfield is approximated to axismmetry. Calculations are performed for all three initial pressure conditions, and the analysis of the result is given for 1500 psi which is expected to be the worst case. The maximum pressure is 3.5 psig while the minimum pressure is -1.2 psig on the outer wall of MCC, and the maximum pressure difference between the inner and outer walls of protection wall amounts to 3.0 psi.
The effectiveness of passive control techniques for alleviating the pressure oscillation generated in a supersonic cavity flow was investigated numerically and experimentally, respectively. The control device includes a sub-cavity installed near the leading edge of a rectangular cavity. Time-dependent supersonic cavity flow characteristics with turbulent features were examined by using the three-dimensional, mass-averaged Navier-Stokes computation based on a finite volume scheme and large eddy simulation. The results show that the pressure oscillation near the trailing edge dominates overall time-dependent cavity pressure variations. Such an oscillation can be attenuated more significantly in the presence of the sub-cavity compared with the cavity without sub-cavity, and a larger sub-cavity leads to better control performance.

Rockburst is becoming more serious in Chinese coal mine. One of the effective methods to control rockburst is blasting. In the paper, we monitored and analyzed the blasting waves at different blast center distances by the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) in a coal mine. Results show that with the increase of blast center distance, the main frequency and amplitude of blasting waves show the decreasing trend. The attenuation of blasting waves is slower in the near blast field (10-75 m), compared with the far blast field (75-230 m). Besides, the frequency superposition phenomenon aggravates in the far field. A majority of the blasting waves energy at different blast center distances is concentrated around the IMF components 1-3. The instantaneous energy peak shows attenuation trend with the blast center distance increase, there are two obvious energy peaks in the near blast field (10-75 m), the energy spectrum appears "fat", and the total energy is greater. By contrast, there is only an energy peak in the far blast field, the energy spectrum is "thin", and the total energy is lesser. The HHT three dimensional spectrum shows that the wave energy accumulates in the time and frequency with the increasing of blast center distance.
A far field approximate solution of the slowly varying force on a 3 dimensional offshore structure in gravity ocean waves is presented. The first order potential, or at least the far field form of the Kochin function, of each frequency wave is assumed to be known. The momentum flux of the fluid domain is formulated to find the time variant force acting on the floating body in bichromatic waves. The second order difference frequency force is identified and extracted from the time variant force. The final solution is expressed as the circular integration of the product of Kochin functions. The limiting form of the slowly varying force is identical to the mean drift force. It shows that the slowly varying force components caused by the body disturbance potential can be evaluated at the far field.
The advantages of the SITVC(secondary injection thrust vector control) technique over mechanical thrust vector systems include a reduction in both the nozzle weight and complexity due to the elimination of the mechanical actuators that are used in conventional vectoring. Computational study is performed to understand the fluidic thrust vectoring control of an axisymmetric nozzle, in which secondary gas injection is made in the divergent section of the nozzle. The nozzle has a design mach number 3. The effect of injection hole number and shape of secondary jet on the mach number distribution of SITVC were investigated. The standard ${\kappa}$ - ${\epsilon}$ turbulence model solved the complex three-dimensional nozzle flows perturbed by the secondary gas jet. The numerical code was validated by experiment. The results showed that the mach number distribution of circular and square nozzle are similar each other. As number of second injection hole increasing, a effect of deflection was decreased.

The objective of this study was to implement an in vitro exposure system for 28 GHz to investigate the biological effects of fifth-generation (5G) communication. A signal source of 28 GHz for 5G millimeter-wave (MMW) deployment was developed, followed by a variable attenuator for antenna input power control. A power amplifier was also customized to ensure a maximum output power of 10 W for high-power 28-GHz exposure. A 3-dB uniformity over the 80 mm × 80 mm area that corresponds to four Petri dishes of three-dimensional cell cultures can be obtained using a customized choke-ring-type antenna. An infrared camera is employed for temperature regulation during exposure by adjusting the airflow cooling rate via real-time feedback to the incubator. The reported measurement results confirm that the input power control, uniformity, and temperature regulation for 28-GHz exposure were successfully accomplished, indicating the possibility of a wide application of the implemented in vitro exposure system in the fields of various MMW dose-response studies.
Acoustic characteristics of a sound absorbing material can be identified, if the characteristic impedance and propagation constants are known, which have generally been determined experimentally. One easy method determining these two essential parameters is to measure the one dimensional wave characteristics in the impedance tube. In th udy, the effects of backing conditions on the impedance tube measurement have been examined using several pairs of generally used end conditions. The results showed that the measured values are similar for most pairs of end conditions: however, it was observed that the measured characteristic impedance for different thickness did not agree well for some pairs. In this work, the multi termination method, using three or more known backing con ns, was suggested to reduce such random errors, which are mostly caused by the test procedure. Employing three terminations as a set, comprised of a rigid end, an end with porous material, and an end with a backing cavity, it was demonstrated that improved measured results could be obtained for an open cell PU foam varying widely with three different thicknesses.
To effectively extract the vast wind resource, offshore wind turbines are designed with large rotor and slender tower, which makes them vulnerable to external vibration sources such as wind and wave loads. Substantial research efforts have been devoted to mitigate the unwanted vibrations of offshore wind turbines to ensure their serviceability and safety in the normal working condition. However, most previous studies investigated the vibration control of wind turbines in one direction only, i.e., either the out-of-plane or in-plane direction. In reality, wind turbines inevitably vibrate in both directions when they are subjected to the external excitations. The studies on both the in-plane and out-of-plane vibration control of wind turbines are, however, scarce. In the present study, the NREL 5 MW wind turbine is taken as an example, a detailed three-dimensional (3D) Finite Element (FE) model of the wind turbine is developed in ABAQUS. To simultaneously control the in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations induced by the combined wind and wave loads, another carefully designed (i.e., tuned) spring and dashpot are added to the perpendicular direction of each Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) system that is used to control the vibrations of the tower and blades in one particular direction. With this simple modification, a bi-directional TMD system is formed and the vibrations in both the out-of-plane and in-plane directions are simultaneously suppressed. To examine the control effectiveness, the responses of the wind turbine without control, with separate TMD system and the proposed bi-directional TMD system are calculated and compared. Numerical results show that the bi-directional TMD system can simultaneously control the out-of-plane and in-plane vibrations of the wind turbine without changing too much of the conventional design of the control system. The bi-directional control system therefore could be a cost-effective solution to mitigate the bi-directional vibrations of offshore wind turbines.

Thrust vector characteristics of jet vanes installed in a shroud are very unique and much more complicated than those of the jet vane acting without any shroud by the fact of additional physical phenomena. The fluid dynamic interferences induced by jet vanes and shroud as well as jet vane's aerodynamic performance are investigated to characterize thrust vector control by semi-empirical model, three dimensional numerical analysis including real complex geometry, and ground firing test of real motors.
