원자력 발전소 배관 감육 측정데이터의 개선된 전처리 방법 개발 (Development of the Modified Preprocessing Method for Pipe Wall Thinning Data in Nuclear Power Plants)

  • In nuclear power plants, ultrasonic test for pipe wall thickness measurement is used during periodic inspections to prevent pipe rupture due to pipe wall thinning. However, when measuring pipe wall thickness using ultrasonic test, a significant amount of measurement error occurs due to the on-site conditions of the nuclear power plant. If the maximum pipe wall thinning rate is decided by the measured pipe wall thickness containing a significant error, the pipe wall thinning rate data have significant uncertainty and systematic overestimation. This study proposes preprocessing of pipe wall thinning measurement data using support vector machine regression algorithm. By using support vector machine, pipe wall thinning measurement data can be smoothened and accordingly uncertainty and systematic overestimation of the estimated pipe wall thinning rate data can be reduced.

산불적지에서 숲 가꾸기 실행 유무와 산불위험성 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of Forest Fire Danger Rating on Forest Characteristics of Thinning Area and Non-thinning Area on Forest Fire Burnt Area)

  • 본 연구는 산불적지에서 숲 가꾸기 실행 유무와 산불위험성과의 관계를 비교 분석하기 위하여 2007년에 산불이 발생했던 강원도 강릉시, 삼척시 및 경북 울진지역에 총18개소의 세부조사구를 선정하여 숲 가꾸기 실행 유무, 피해수종, 산불진행방향, DBH, 총수고, 지하고, 임목고사여부, 편면연소율, 수관피해율, 임목밀도, 지하고, 숲 가꾸기 산물의 방치유무, 조사지의 위치(GPS), 해발고도, 조사사면의 방위, 산지경사, 지형을 각각 조사하였다. 조사결과, 숲 가꾸기 실행지의 편면연소율은 24.7%인 반면, 미실행지의 편면연소율은 60.2%로 숲 가꾸기 미실행지가 실행지에 비해 약 35.5% 높게 나타났고, 수종별로는 소나무가 참나무류 보다 피해가 크게 나타났다. 임목고사율의 경우도 숲 가꾸기 미실행지가 실행지에 비해 약 41.4% 높게 나타났다. 그리고, 숲 가꾸기 실행지의 산물들이 근접해 있는 임목이 그렇지 않은 임목에 비하여 10${\sim}$20%의 편면연소 피해를 더 받는 것으로 나타났는데, 이것은 임목주변에 숲 가꾸기 산물이 있을 경우, 독립적으로 있는 임목보다 연소물량이 많아 산불강도에 영향을 준 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 적재된 간벌목이 산림 내에 많이 쌓여있는 경우에는 이로 인하여 재발화의 가능성이 있는 것으로 나타나, 숲 가꾸기 산물을 임외로 걷어 내리거나 다른 용도로의 활용방안을 강구해야 할 것으로 판단된다.

내압을 받는 외부 국부 감육 직관의 파손 기준 (Failure Criterion of Straight Pipe with Outer Local Wall Thinning under Internal Pressure)

  • This study was carried out an experimental and finite element analysis on the fracture behavior of straight pipes with local wall thinning under internal pressure. Local wall thinning was machined on the pipes in order to simulate erosion/corrosion metal loss. The configurations of the eroded area has an eroded ratio of d/t=0.80~0.92 and an eroded length of l=25, 50 and 102 mm. Three-dimensional elastic-plastic analyses were also carried out using the finite element method, which is able to accurately simulate failure behaviors. In regards to the relation ship between pressure and eroded ratio, the criterion that can be used safely under operating pressure and design pressure were obtained from this calculation. The results of this calculation were in relatively good agreement with that of the experiment.

  • In order to assess the integrity of pipes with local thinning area, the plastic strain as well as the elastic strain at the root of thinned region are required particularly when fluctuating load is applied to the pipe. For estimating elastic-plastic strain at local wall thinning area in a straight pipe under tensile load, an estimation model with idealized fully circumferential constant depth wall thinning area is proposed. Based on the compatibility and equilibrium equations a nonlinear estimation equation, from which local elastic-plastic strain can be determined as a function of pipe/defect geometry, material and the applied strain was derived. Estimation results are compared with those from detailed elastic-plastic finite element analysis, which shows good agreements. Noting that practical wall thinning in nuclear piping has not only a circular shape but also a finite circumferential length, the proposed solution for the ideal geometry is extended based on two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical analysis of pipes with circular wall thinning.

ASSESSMENT OF WALL-THINNING IN CARBON STEEL PIPE BY USING LASER-GENERATED GUIDED WAVE

  • The objective of this research is to estimate the crack location and size of a carbon steel pipe by using a laser ultrasound guided wave for the wall thinning evaluation of an elbow. The wall thinning of the carbon steel pipe is one of the most serious problems in nuclear power plants, especially the wall thinning of the carbon steel elbow caused by Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC). Therefore, a non-destructive inspection method of elbow is essential for the nuclear power plants to operate safely. The specimens used in this study were carbon steel elbows, which represented the main elements of real nuclear power plants. The shape of the wall thinning was an oval with a width of 120mm, a length of 80mm, and a depth of 5mm. The L(0,1) and L(0,2) modes variation of the ultrasound guided wave signal is obtained from the response of the laser generation/air-coupled detection ultrasonic hybrid system represent the characteristics of the defect. The trends of these characteristics and signal processing were used to estimate the size and location of wall thinning.

  • U.S. Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has developed CHECWORKS program and applied it to power plant piping lines since some lines were ruptured by flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) in 1978. Nowadays the CHECWORKS program has been used to manage pipe wall thinning phenomena caused by FAC. However, various erosion mechanisms can occur in carbon-steel piping. Most common forms of erosion are cavitation, flashing, liquid droplet impingement erosion (LDIE), and Solid Particle Erosion (SPE). Those erosion mechanisms cause pipe wall thinning, leaking, rupturing, and even result in unplanned shutdowns of utilities. Especially, in two phase condition, LDIE damages a wide scope of plant pipelines. Furthermore, LDIE is the major culprit to cause such as power runback by pipe leaking. This paper describes the methodologies that manage wall thinning and also predict LDIE wall thinning area. For this study, current properties of two-phase condition are investigated and LDIE areas are selected. The areas are checked by B-Scan method to detect the effect of wall thinning phenomena.

  • Pipe wall thinning is one of severe problems on structural safety in nuclear power plants. A guided wave can be a proper tool for the fast evaluation or monitoring. As for gradual wall thinnings, however, low sensitivity caused by the low reflection coefficient limits the use of the guided wave. In this work, instead of the guided wave reflection at the wall thinning, the variation of dispersion characteristics is concerned. SH waves were employed due to several advantages and the magnetostrictive patch transducers were used for the excitation and sensing of the SH waves. The proposed method were verified with some experiments and showed the feasibility as an effective tool for the inspection of gradual wall thinning.

Finite Element Modeling of Wall Thinning Defects: Applications to Lamb Wave Generation and Interaction

  • The generation of axisymmetric Lamb waves and interaction with wall thinning (corrosion) defects in hollow cylinders are simulated using the finite element method. Guided wave interaction with defects in cylinders is challenged by the multi-mode dispersion and the mode conversion. In this paper, two longitudinal, axisymmetric modes are generated using the concept of a time-delay periodic ring arrays (TDPRA), which makes use of the constructive/destructive interference concept to achieve the unidirectional emission and reception of guided waves. The axisymmetric scattering by the wall thinning extending in full circumference of a cylinder is studied with a two-dimensional FE simulation. The effect of wall thinning depth, axial extension, and the edge shape on the reflections of guided waves is discussed.

  • 이 논문에서는 음선 추적을 이용한 세선화 보정 및 의사 특징 점 제거에 관하여 연구하였다. 세선화 보정 과정은 첫째로, 교차수가 6인 픽셀 중에서 8-이웃 연결합이 3이 아닌 경우 불필요한 픽셀을 삭제하고 둘째로, 교차수가 6인 픽셀의 주위 8픽셀 중에서 융선에 해당하는 픽셀과 교파수가 2인 픽셀을 시작 픽셀로 하여 융선을 추적하면서 제거할 픽셀이 없을 때까지 반복하여 처리한다. 세선화 보정이 끝나면 교차 수와 8-이웃 연결합을 이용하여 후보 특징 점을 추출하였다. 추출된 후보 특징 점 중에서 의사 특징 점 제거 알고리즘을 이용하여 실제 특징 점을 재 추출하였다. 제안 방법의 성능 평가를 위하여 기존 방법과 비교하였으며, 실험결과 제안방법이 세선화정도가 우수하고 많은 의사 특징 점들이 제거되었음을 알 수 있었다.

고밀식 사과원에서의 간벌이 '후지'/M.9 사과나무의 영양생장, 생산량 및 과실품질에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Tree Thinning on Vegetative Growth, Yield and Fruit Quality of 'Fuji'/M.9 Apple Trees in the High Density Orchard)

  • As apple trees mature, it is important to maintain good light distribution within the canopy to produce marketable fruits. Tree thinning is the selective removal of a proportion of trees growing in the orchard to provide more growing space and a good light environment for the remaining trees. This study was conducted over 3 years (14-16 years after planting) to investigate the influence of tree thinning on vegetative growth, yield, fruit quality, and blooming in the 14 years old slender spindle 'Fuji'/M.9 apple trees planted with the tree space of 3.2×1.2 m. The trees were placed in a control group (no thinning; 260 trees per 10 a) or a tree thinning group (thinned 50% of the control; 130 trees per 10 a). The tree thinning successfully improved light penetration, yield per tree, fruit red color, and yield efficiency for 3 years, and the tree thinning controlled the occurrence of biennial bearing. However, tree thinning significantly decreased accumulated yield per 10 a compared with the control. The vegetative growth, yield per tree, soluble solid contents, and blooming were not clear by the occurrence of biennial bearing in the control. These results indicated that tree thinning was a good method for improving light penetration and preventing biennial bearing in the old 'Fuji'/M.9 high-density apple orchards.
