The purpose of this experimental research was focused to improve the quality of the effluent and the yielded sludge when the papermill wastewater was treated by the indirect aerated submerged biofilter as a second treatment method of papermill wastewater. Changing the various experimental factors (Nutrient additions or not, HRT, Fh ratio, recirculation ratio, etc) with indirect aerated submerged biofilter, the results are as follows. 1) because of the microbes concentration could be sustained to 9, oho man in submerged biofilter and then the volumetric organic loads could be increased to 2.7 kg-BOD/$m^3$<\TEX>/day, the reactor volume can be reduced. 2) Because of the yield coefficient(Y) and the endogenous decay coefficient(kd) were revealed 0.4 and 0.07/d, the yielded sludge volume was reduced. 3) The concentration of the sloughed sludge in the reactor was 2.62~4.01 %, so the thickener could be omited in the papermill wastewater sludge treatment process. 4) When the operating was conducted at HRT of 4hrs, the treatment efficiencies of BOD and COD were obtained 80% and 70%. 5) The range of the theoretical recirculation ratios of this reactor was 14~26. According to those ratios, at the low loads ( BOD volumetric loads is less than 0.79 kg-BOD/$m^3$<\TEX>/day, FM ratio is less than 2.0/d) the results were fitted to the theoretical recirculation ratios (14 ~26) and at the high loads the efficiency were increased to the rise of recirculation ratios.
In this study, pre-treatment was performed on kapok, a hydrophobic fiber, to compare dyeability by hydrophilization. The pretreatment conditions of kapok fiber were used with different amounts of sodium oleate(NaO), a fatty acid-based anionic surfactant, and xanthan gum(XG) as a natural thickener. At this time, NaO and XG were separately or mixed treated with 0.01%, 0.1%, 1% aqueous solution at 80℃ for 30 min. Hydrophilicity through dyeing was confirmed using Sappan wood extract. Therefore, SEM observation was performed to investigate the surface change of kapok fiber according to the conditions. The surface color difference was also analyzed. Pretreated kapok fibers were made from nonwoven fabrics and the contact angles were measured to determine their hydrophilization. The surface of the fiber after pretreatment was found to be cracked when NaO and NaO were mixed with XG. The surface color was the highest in a⁎ and K/S values after the simultaneous treatment of NaO and XG, followed by NaO pretreatment and XG pretreatment. The contact angle of kapok fiber made of nonwoven fabric was slightly lower at 300g/㎡ than the fabric weight of 150g/㎡. Such hydrophilized nonwoven kapok fiber are expected to be used in various fields.
In order to elucidate the effects of types and mixing ratio of GCC and clay, coating color concentration, and types of rheology modifiers on high solid coating, various coating colors were prepared, high shear viscosity was measured and then rheology of the coating colors was analyzed. Coating color concentration was able to be increased from 67% to 69% and from 68% to 71% with a higher GCC ratio and with the rheology modifier instead of the synthetic thickener, keeping similar or improved coating color rheology and coated paper quality. The rheological properties of high solid coating color were superior with smaller average particle sizes of clay and latex, wider size distribution of GCC and higher added amount of latex.
This paper confirms that high solid coating can increase coating speed and reduce drying cost. Low solid coating color with the synthetic thickener and high solid coating color with the rheology modifier and with higher ratio of GCC were prepared. Coated paper was then produced with an industrial coater, varying coating speed and dryer temperature in order to keep the moisture content of the coated paper constant. Coating color concentration was able to be increased from 66% to 69% and from 68% to 71% without an adverse effect on coating color rheology. With a help of the rheology modifier, the increased ratio of GCC in high solid coating did not show harmful effects on the coated paper quality.
An experimental study of biofilm nitritation system for high-strength ammonium wastewater has been carried out to examine the temperature effect on different organic and solid concentration. Operating temperature varied from $35^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$. The influent N concentration of identical three reactors was adjusted to about $300mg\;NH_4-N/L$. A control unit fed with a synthetic wastewater, while the others were fed with reject water which is consisted of the supernatant of both digester and thickener. The results indicated that nitrite accumulation was stable in temperature range of $35^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$. However, nitritation was significantly reduced at below $20^{\circ}C$. Free ammonia (FA) and free nitrous acid (FNA) were major inhibitors to the nitrite oxidizer for nitrite accumulation in lower temperature. From the estimation of temperature coefficient (${\Theta}$) of biofilm and suspended nitritation system, biofilm nitritation system could absorb the negative temperature effect compared with suspended nitritation system.
As one of the post-COVID-19 response strategies, representative processed products derived from the natural plant material flaxseed and a dietary supplement fortified with female hormones (estrogens) were developed in Canada, an eco-friendly country was introduced. These products were: 1) flaxseed oil to help maintain cognitive and immune function, 2) Lignan50, a substance with effects similar to estrogen, a female hormone, 3) XanFlax, a thickener for confectionery/baking and egg substitute, 4) MediFlax, a constipation reliever, 5) SesaFlax, which has a fragrance similar to sesame, 6) Linusorb, which is effective for its pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory/anti-oxidation and anti-aging properties, and 7) LinuLyte, a water/electrolyte supplement containing high dietary fiber. It is expected that these dietary products will help maintain and promote health as part of a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim of this study was to isolate biocontrol bacteria that could antagonize brown rot of Dendrocalamus latiflorus, optimize the culture conditions, and develop an effective biocontrol preparation for brown rot of D. latiflorus. This study isolated a bacterium with an antagonistic effect on bamboo brown rot from healthy D. latiflorus rhizosphere soil. Morphology, molecular biology, and physiological biochemistry methods identified it as Bacillus siamensis. The following culturing media and conditions improved the inhibition effect of B. siamensis: the best culturing media were 2% sucrose, 1.5% yeast extract, and 0.7% potassium chloride; the optimal culturing time, temperature, pH, and inoculation amount were 48 h, 30℃, 6, and 20%. The optimum formula of the applying bacterial suspension was 14% sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate emulsifier, 4% Na2HPO4·2H2O, 0.3% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose thickener, and 20% B. siamensis. The pot experiment results showed the control effect of applying bacterial suspension, diluted 1,000 times is still better than that of 24% fenbuconazole suspension. The applying bacterial suspension enables reliable control of brown rot in D. latiflorus.
Digital textile printing(DTP) technology made considerable advances in recent years. In this study, a pre-treatment agent has been prepared for the better coloration of digital textile printing. The ink formulation contained three kinds of 5g thickener (CMC, Sodium alginate, Dextrin), 25g urea, 5g sodium carbonate, and 465g distilled water. The optimal sharpness of outline was found in the 1-3% concentration of the pre-treating agent with a viscosity of 10-15 cSt. Even if the color difference between untreated and treated samples was not apparent in the printing step, the color appearance increased after steaming. The color appearance of cyan, magenta, yellow, black reactive colorants increased in the order of CMC>Sodium alginate>Dextrin. Wash fastness to shade change and staining for the treated samples were 4-5 rating, while untreated sample was 1-2 rating. Also, the pre-treated sample with 1:1 mixtures had 4-5 rating. Both dry and wet rubbing fastness to shade change and staining were excellent in the treated samples, whereas rubbing fastness of untreated sample was 1-2 rating. With exception of 3 rating to black color, light fastness properties were 4 rating for the remaining three colors in the regardless of treatment condition and mixing of pre-treating agents. Dry cleaning fastness of all samples were also 4-5 rating irrespective of treatment condition and mixing of pre-treating agents.
The effects of initial solid concentration and microwave irradiation (MWI) time on the hydrolysis of waste activated sludge (WAS) were investigated. MWI time strongly influenced WAS hydrolysis for all initial solid concentrations of 8.20, 31.51, and 52.88 g VSS/L. For all WAS, the volatile suspended solids (VSS) solubilization degree ranged from 35.6% to 38.4% during a total MWI time of 10 min. Soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) concentration increased at a rate proportional to the decrease of VSS during the MWI. However, the clearly different VSS solubilization patterns that were observed during the MWI were explained by the 2-step hydrolysis of WAS, consisting of the initial disintegration of the easily degradable part of the sludge, followed by the subsequent disintegration of the hardly degradable part of the sludge. WAS hydrolysis rates for 3 to 6 min of MWI were significantly lower than those for less than 3 min, or more than 6 min. From these results, 3 min MWI time and WAS of 31.51 g VSS/L (centrifugal thickener WAS) showed the most efficient hydrolysis of WAS at 36.0%. The profiles of total nitrogen (T-N) concentrations corresponded well to the SCOD increases in terms of the empirical formula of bacterial cell mass ($C_5H_7O_2N$). The negligible T-N increase and pH decrease during WAS hydrolysis by MWI will allow the application of this process to subsequent biological processes, such as anaerobic digestion.
This study examined the quality characteristics of brown sauce prepared with rice powder in place of wheat flour, which is the commonly used thickener. With regard to the general components, as the level of rice powder increased and its ratio in the stock increased, moisture decreased and crude protein, lipid, and ash increased. Reducing sugar content was 4.72% in the control group, and as the mixing ratio of stock to rice powder increased from 100:5 (S1) to 100:13 (S5) in the rice powder-added groups, reducing sugar content increased from 3.94% to 4.82%, respectively. In terms of Hunter's color values, as more rice power was added to the beurre mani$\acute{e}$, L, a, and b values increased. Thus, a sauce of a light brown color was appropriately made. For consistency, as more rice powder beurre mani? was inserted into the analyzer, flow was reduced and viscosity significantly increased. The pH of the control (CS) was 4.94, and there were no significant differences between the control and the rice powder-added groups. In sensory evaluations, color presented its highest score as 6.47 when the mixing ratio of stock to beurre mani$\acute{e}$ was 100:7 (S2). S2 also received the highest score for flavor at 6.32. Viscosity was highest in the control (CS) at 6.26, and was not significantly different from the 100:7 (S2) or 100:9 (S3) groups. Finally, the S2 group had the highest scores for taste (6.21) and overall-acceptability (6.30). In correlation analyses between the sensory characteristics, overall-acceptability as well as the color, flavor, viscosity, and taste of the brown sauce all presented comparatively high positive correlations, in which overall-acceptability and color had the highest correlation.
