Combined influence of variable distribution models and boundary conditions on the thermodynamic behavior of FG sandwich plates lying on various elastic foundations

  • The present research investigates the thermodynamically bending behavior of FG sandwich plates, laying on the Winkler/Pasternak/Kerr foundation with various boundary conditions, subjected to harmonic thermal load varying through thickness. The supposed FG sandwich plate has three layers with a ceramic core. The constituents' volume fractions of the lower and upper faces vary gradually in the direction of the FG sandwich plate thickness. This variation is performed according to various models: a Power law, Trigonometric, Viola-Tornabene, and the Exponential model, while the core is constantly homogeneous. The displacement field considered in the current work contains integral terms and fewer unknowns than other theories in the literature. The corresponding equations of motion are derived based on Hamilton's principle. The impact of the distribution model, scheme, aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, boundary conditions, and elastic foundations on thermodynamic bending are examined in this study. The deflections obtained for the sandwich plate without elastic foundations have the lowest values for all boundary conditions. In addition, the minimum deflection values are obtained for the exponential volume fraction law model. The sandwich plate's non-dimensional deflection increases as the aspect ratio increases for all distribution models.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Liquid Alkanes. Ⅰ. Thermodynamics and Structures of Normal Alkanes : n-butane to n-heptadecane

  • We present results of molecular dynamic (MD) simulations for the thermodynamic and structural properties of liquid n-alkanes, from n-butane to n-heptadecane, using three different models Ⅰ-Ⅲ. Two of the three classes of models are collapsed atomic models while the third class is an atomistically detailed model. Model Ⅰ is the original Ryckaert and Bellemans' collapsed atomic model [Discuss. Faraday Soc. 1978, 66, 95] and model Ⅱ is the expanded collapsed model which includes C-C bond stretching and C-C-C bond angle bending potentials in addition to Lennard-Jones and torsional potentials of model Ⅰ. In model Ⅲ all the carbon and hydrogen atoms in the monomeric units are represented explicitly for the alkane molecules. Excellent agreement of the results of our MD simulations of model Ⅰ for n-butane with those of Edberg et al.[J. Chem. Phys. 1986, 84, 6933], who used a different algorithm confirms the validity of our algorithms for MD simulations of model Ⅱ for 14 liquid n-alkanes and of models Ⅰ and Ⅲ for liquid n-butane, n-decane, and n-heptadecane. The thermodynamic and structural properties of models Ⅰ and Ⅱ are very similar to each other and the thermodynamic properties of model Ⅲ for the three n-alkanes are not much different from those of models Ⅰ and Ⅱ. However, the structural properties of model Ⅲ are very different from those of models Ⅰ and Ⅱ as observed by comparing the radial distribution functions, the average end-to-end distances and the root-mean-squared radii of gyrations.

  • Pulsations, vibration and stress are the basic dynamic phenomena in power plant piping systems which directly affect system reliability. These phenomena are both acoustical and mechanical in nature and are closely interrelated. It was noticed that thermodynamic parameters were changed after replacing with new type tube bundles of reheat exchanger. It was reported later that the drain piping connecting the new bundle header with the associated drain tank is regularly pulsating at about every 3 second with 13.4㎐ and 7.5mm, p-p in amplitude. This amplitude is about 6 times higher than reference level of sound piping. The results of finite element analysis of the pipeline showed that its dominant natural frequency is 13.4㎐. The soundness is predicted whether the bending dynamic stress evaluated excesses the maximum allowable high cycle fatigue stress or not by the measured amplitude of vibration.

니켈-타이타늄 호선의 상전이 온도 범위와 상전이 행동 비교 (Comparison of transition temperature range and phase transformation behavior of nickel-titanium wires)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 martensitic (M-NiTi), austenitic (A-NiTi) 및 thermodynamic nickel-titanium wire (T-NiTi)의 물리적 특징과 상전이 정도를 평가하는 것이다. 재료는 $0.016\;{\times}\;0.022$ inch의 M-NiTi (Nitinol Classic, NC), A-NiTi (Optimalloy, OPTI)와 T-NiTi (Neo-Sentalloy, NEO)이었으며, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), 3점굽힘실험, X-ray diffraction (XRD), 미세구조 분석을 시행하였으며, ANOVA test로 통계처리하였다. DSC분석 결과 OPTI와 NEO는 heating curve에서 2개의 peak, cooling curve에서 1개의 peak를 보였고, NC는 heating과 cooling curve에서 1개의 넓고 약한 peak를 보였다. Austenite finishing ($A_f$) 온도는 OPTI $19.7^{\circ}C$, NEO $24.6^{\circ}C$, NC $52.4^{\circ}C$였다. 3점굽힘실험 결과 NC, OPTI, NEO 모두 residual deflection을 보였으며, NC와 OPTI의 load range가 NEO보다 컸다. XRD와 미세구조 분석결과 OPTI와 NEO는 Martensite finishing ($M_f$)에서 martensite와 austenite가 섞여 있음이 관찰되었다. NEO와 OPTI는 NC보다 개선된 물리적 특징과 상전이 행태를 보였다. NiTi 호선의 물리적, 온도에 따른 행태는 예상되었던 상전이 정도에 의해 완벽하게 설명되지 않았으며, 그 이유는 복잡한 martensite variants의 존재와 열과 stress에 의해 유도된 독립적인 상전이에 기인한다고 생각된다.

Al-Mg 계 다이캐스팅 합금의 미세조직 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 Mg 및 Si의 영향 (Effects of Mg and Si on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-Mg Die Casting Alloy)

  • The effects of Mg and Si contents on the microstructure and mechanical properties in Al-Mg alloy (ALDC6) were investigated. The results showed that phase fraction and size of $Mg_2Si$ and $Al_{15}(Fe,Mn)_3Si_2$ phase in the microstructure of Al-Mg alloy were increased as the Mg and Si contents were raised from 2.5 to 3.5 wt%. With Si content of 1.5 wt%, freezing range of the alloy was significantly reduced and solidification became more complex during the final stage of solidification. While there was no significant influence of Mg contents on mechanical properties, Si contents up to 1.5 wt%, strongly affected the mechanical properties. Especially elongation was reduced by about a half with more than 1.0 wt%Si in the alloy. The bending and impact strength were decreased with increased amount of Si in the alloy, as well. The lowered mechanical properties are because of the growth of particle shaped coarse $Mg_2Si$ phase and precipitation of the needle like $\beta$-AlFeSi in the microstructure at the last region to solidify due to presence of excess amount of Si in the alloy.

플렉서블 기판의 레이저 투과 용접 및 기계적 특성 평가 (Laser Transmission Welding of Flexible Substrates and Evaluation of the Mechanical Properties)

  • 플렉서블, 웨어러블 디바이스 등을 포함한 차세대 전자 기기의 기계적 신뢰성 향상을 위하여 다양한 유연 접합부에서 높은 수준의 기계적 신뢰성이 요구되고 있다. 기존 고분자 기판 접합을 위한 에폭시 등의 유기 접착소재는 접합부 두께 증가가 필연적이며, 반복 변형, 고온 경화에 의한 열기계적 파손 문제를 수반한다. 따라서 유연 접합을 위해서 접합부 두께를 최소화하고 열 손상을 방지하기 위한 저온 접합 공정 개발이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 플렉서블 기판의 유연, 강건, 저 열 손상 접합이 가능한 플렉서블 레이저 투과 용접(flexible laser transmission welding, f-LTW)를 개발하였다. 유연 기판 위 탄소나노튜브(carbon nanotube, CNT)를 박막 코팅하여 접합부 두께를 줄였으며, CNT 분산 빔 레이저 가열을 통한 고분자 기판 표면의 국부적 용융 접합 공정이 개발되었다. 짧은 접합 공정 시간과 기판의 열 손상을 최소화하는 레이저 공정 조건을 구축하였으며 고분자 기판과 CNT 접합 형성 메커니즘을 분석하였다. 또한 접합부의 강건성 및 유연성 평가를 위해 인장강도 시험, 박리 시험과 반복 굽힘 시험을 진행하였다.
