Interest in use of ink-jet printing for pattern-on-demand fabrication of metal interconnects without complicated and wasteful etching process has been on rapid increase. However, ink-jet printing is a wet process and needs an additional thermal treatment such as an annealing process. Since a metal ink is a suspension containing metal nanoparticles and organic capping molecules to prevent aggregation of them, the microstructure of an ink-jet printed metal interconnect 'as dried' can be characterized as a stack of loosely packed nanoparticles. Therefore, during being treated thermally, an inkjet-printed interconnect is likely to evolve a characteristic microstructure, different from that of the conventionally vacuum-deposited metal films. Microstructure characteristics can significantly affect the corresponding electrical and mechanical properties. The characteristics of change in microstructure and electrical resistivity of inkjet-printed silver (Ag) films when annealed isothermally at a temperature between 170 and $240^{\circ}C$ were analyzed. The change in electrical resistivity was described using the first-order exponential decay kinetics. The corresponding activation energy of 0.44 eV was explained in terms of a thermally-activated mechanism, i.e., migration of point defects such as vacancy-oxygen pairs, rather than microstructure evolution such as grain growth or change in porosity.
The adsorption mechanism of Cs-137 in low level radioactive solution by vermiculite treated with Na ion is studied in order to investigate its effective utilization for the radioactive effluent treatment. The beneficial role of Na-vermiculite is that Na ion can induce the wider c-axis spacing in which Cs ion can be sorbed in vermiculite. Cation exchange capacity and distribution coefficient of cesium seems to be influenced by the variation of c-axis spacing of vermiculite. Comparative identification and detection with the characteristic analyses of X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction patterns, diffrential thermal analysis and electron microscopy of Na-, K- and Cs-vermiculite are studied for the phemomena of Cs adsorption by vermiculite. This importance of the utilization in terms of adsorption and fixation of cesium involving vermiculite is discussed. It is found that the Na-vermiculite is valuable outside charging material for high level radioactive liquid waste storage tank of underground to protect the pollution of the underground water.
Minor phases in cast and hot-pressed R(R=Pr, Nd)-Fe-B magnet were investigated through thermomagnetic analysis. The relationship between minor phases and coercivities of R-Fe-B magnets was studied. ${\alpha}-Fe$ and $Nd_{2}Fe_{17}$ were precipitated in as-cast Pr-Fe-B and Nd-Fe-B alloys respectively. These phases were considered to deteriorate the magnetic properties of R-Fe-B magnets. During the heat treatment, ${\alpha}-Fe$ and $Nd_{2}Fe_{17}$ were annihilated and the magnetic properties of cast R-Fe-B magnet were improved. Hot-pressed Nd-Fe-B magnet showed better thermal stability than sintered magnet.
This study was carried out to assess the usefulness of thermography for diagnosis and healing process of musculoskeletal disorder in horses. Horses with experimentally induced infectious arthritis were treated with bee venom or antibiotics for 5 weeks from 24 hours after inoculation of Staphylococcus aureus, the effectiveness of the 2 therapeutic drugs treatment was similar to each other. Thermographic evaluation was similar to any other tests, because the thermal pattern tend to return to normal with declining similar to those of clinical signs, laboratory experiments and healing of the lesion. This ability to assess inflammatory change noninvasively make thermography an ideal imaging tool to aid in the diagnosis of certain lameness condition or musculoskeletal disease in horses. These results suggested that thermographic evaluation in horses with musculoskeletal disorders were useful for diagnosis and helpful for monitoring of healing process.
The stabilization of wheat $\beta$-amylase( Himaltosin GL, Hankyu-Bio) was attained by modification wish periodate-oxidized soluble starch. The specific activities of modified enzyme at pH 9.7 and pH 8.0 were 17% and 96%, respectively, compared with that of native enzyme. The pH stability of modified enzyme was increased at pH 2~5 and 6~12 in the presence of $\alpha$-cyclodextrin( $\alpha$-CD) compared with that of native enzyme, and optimum pH of the enzyme was changed from pH 5.0 to pH 7.0 by the modification. Thermal stability of the modified enzyme was increased. After treatment at 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 10min, the activity remained 8% for the enzyme modified at pH 8.0 in the presence of $\alpha$-CD and tested in the presence of $\alpha$-CD, 5% for the native enzyme. The native enzyme and modified enzyme showed one peak in HPLC. The molecular weight of the modified enzyme was slightly increased in HPLC analysis.
pH adjustment would be of advantage in improving the water holding capacity of muscle proteins. The objective of this study was to evaluate the addition of fish sarcoplasmic protein (SP) solution, which was adjusted to pH 3.0 or 12.0, neutralized to pH 7.0, and lyophilized to obtain the acid- and alkaline-treated SP samples, on the functional properties of the chicken myofibrillar protein induced by microbial transglutaminase (MTG). The solubility of alkaline-treated SP was higher than that of the acid counterpart; however, those values of the two pH-treated samples were lower than that of normal SP (p<0.05). All SP solutions were mixed with myofibrillar proteins (MP) extracted from chicken breast, and incubated with MTG. The shear stresses of MP with acid- and alkaline-treated SP were higher than that of normal SP. The thermal stability of MP mixture reduced upon adding SP, regardless of the pH treatment. The breaking force of MP gels with acid-treated SP increased more than those of alkaline-treated SP, while normal SP showed the highest value. The MP gel lightness increased, but cooking loss reduced, with the addition of SP. Smooth microstructure of the gel surface was observed. These results indicated that adjusting the pH of SP improved the water holding capacity of chicken myofibrillar proteins induced by MTG.
Thermal doping method using furnace is generally used for solar-cell wafer doping. It takes a lot of time and high cost and use toxic gas. Generally selective emitter doping using laser, but laser is very high equipment and induce the wafer's structure damage. In this study, we apply atmospheric pressure plasma for solar-cell wafer doping. We fabricated that the atmospheric pressure plasma jet injected Ar gas is inputted a low frequency (1 kHz ~ 100 kHz). We used shallow doping wafers existing PSG (Phosphorus Silicate Glass) on the shallow doping CZ P-type wafer (120 ohm/square). SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy) are used for measuring wafer doping depth and concentration of phosphorus. We check that wafer's surface is not changed after plasma doping and atmospheric pressure doping width is broaden by increase of plasma treatment time and current.
The forged iron axe found in the No. 2 wood-framed tomb (the middle 3rd century) of Hwangseongdong, Gyeongju is rectangular on the plane level. It shows an obtuse angle in the edge part, while the joint part has the both sides folded up and shows the traces of wood. Under the reflected light, the Iron axe shines in metal luster, which is bright light gray or light creamy colors. The result of x-ray diffraction analysis shows that the axe consists of magnetite and geothite, which can explain why the composition and structure of the original ore has been kept intact. The microtexture of the axe has the irregular network of ferrite and pearlite, and tile cementite of tiny amount in the ferrite background. The overall treatment of the texture seems to be thermal with a high ratio of carbon. There are fine-grained magnetite, wolframite, quartz, calcite, mica, hornblende and pyroxene inside the axe. Those must be the impurities that they failed to remove in the refining process. The normal ferrite is composed of pure iron whose $Fe_2O_3$ proportion is from 99.16 to $99.84\;wt.\%$. Other than them, the ferrite parts usually contain $Al_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$. The irregular network of pearlite also contains Impurities including $Al_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$ and shows highly diverse patterns of carbon content. It's because the axe was carburized after the material was made to resemble pure iron. The decarbonization work didn't go well along the process marks. It's estimated that the original ore was bloom produced in low-temperature reduction and formed around in $727^{\circ}C$, which is eutetic temperature.
It is well known that the coloration and structural changes in thermal treatment of polyacrylonitrile are due to the formation of partly hydrogenated naphthylidine-type ring involving the pendant nitrile groups. Any quantitative study of the reaction, in the sense of kinetics and/or statistics, however, has never been reported. This paper presents that, at first, the disappearance of the nitrile groups follows the first order kinetics, which indicates clearly that nitrile groups do not disappear by a long chain reaction-the kinetic chain length is very short. This observation rules out the long intramolecular and intermolecular propagation chain through which most of the nitrile groups disappear. From the evidence that a similar reaction occurs in propylene carbonate solutions without gel formation, one may conclude that the coloration and structural changes are not necessarily intermolecular reaction. Secondly, a finite amount of nitrile groups remains unreacted at the extrem of reaction-not contributed to the formation of naphthylidine-type ring. The concentration of this unreacted nitrile groups is 19∼22% which is good agreement with the statistically calculated value of 19.2%.
Glass ceramics for dental crown prosthesis were prepared by crystallization of CaO-MgO-SiO2-$P_2O_5-TiO_2$ glasses. Their crystallization behaviors have been investigated as a function of heattreatment temperature, holding time and chemical composition in relation to mechinical properties. Crystallization peak temperatures were determined by differential thermal analysis(DTA). Crystalline phases and mircostructures of heat-treated sample were determined by the means of powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The final crystalline phase assemblages and the microstructures of the samples were found to be dependent on glass compositions, heattreatment temperature, and holding time. 1st crystallization peak temperature(TP), affected strongly by apatite, was found to be increased or decreased. From the experiment, the following results were obtained : 1. The crystallization peak temperature($T_P$) formed by apatite increased until adding up to 9wt% $TiO_2$ to base glass composition, then decreased above that. 2. Apatite($Ca_{10}P_6O_{25}$), whitlockite(${\beta}-3CaO-P_2O_5$), $\beta$-wollastonite($CaSiO_3$), magnesium tianate($MaTiO_3$) and diopside(CaO-MgO-$2SiO_2$) crystal phase were precipitated in MgO-CaO-$SiO_2-TiO_2-P_2O_5$ glass system containing 9wt% and 11wt% of $TiO_2$ 3. Vickers hardness of samples increased with increasing heat-treatment temperature and Vickers hardness of S415T9 samples heat-treated at 1075 was approxi-mately 813Kg $mm^{-2}$ as maximum value. 4. Vickers hardness of samples increased due to precipitation of apatite, whitlockite, $\beta$-wollastonite, magnesium titanate, and diopside crystal phases within glass matrix.
