  • Polyurethane microcapsules were synthesized by interfacial polymerization in an aqueous poly(ethylene glycol) dispersion with ethylenediamine as chain extender of toluene diisocyanate in perfume oil using poly(vinyl alcohol) as the stabilizing agent. The effect of chemical structure on the average particle size and distributions, morphologies, and thermal properties to design microcapsules for the sustained release system was investigated. It came to be known that polyurethane microcapsules with ethylene diamine as chain extender had a rounder, more permeable and controlled release membranes. And the release test of polyurethane microcapsules with different soft segment content was done to certify the effect of long methylene chain. According to the higher molecular weight of polyether polyol, the release rate of microencapsulated disperse dye molecular was faster.

모형 가스터빈 연소기에서 희박 예혼합 화염의 연소 특성 및 유동 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Combustion Characteristics and Flow Analysis of a Lean Premixed Flame in Lab-Scale Gas Turbine Combustor)

  • The characteristics of combustion and flow for a lean premixed flame in lab-scale gas turbine combustor was studied through experiment and numerical analysis. From the experiment, flame structure and heat release rate were obtained from OH emission spectroscopy. Qualitative comparisons were made line-integrated OH chemiluminescence image and abel-transformed one. NOx analyzer was implemented to get the characteristic of NOx exhaust from the combustor. From the numerical analysis, the thermal distribution and characteristic of recirculation zone with the change of fuel-air mixing degree, the characteristic of methane distribution with equivalence ratio in the combustor respectively. Total heat release rate is increased with increasing equivalence ratio. Thermal Nox is reduced with increasing fuel-air mixing degree. Increasing equivalence ratio results in the decrease of the size of reaction zone and alteration of the position of the reaction zone into the entrance of the combustor.

EFFECT OF MIXTURE PREPARATION IN A DIESEL HCCI ENGINE USING EARLY IN-CYLINDER INJECTION DURING THE SUCTION STROKE

  • It is becoming increasingly difficult for engines using conventional fuels and combustion techniques to meet stringent emission norms. The homogeneous charge compression ignition(HCCI) concept is being evaluated on account of its potential to control both smoke and NOx emissions. However, HCCI engines face problems of combustion control. In this work, a single cylinder water-cooled diesel engine was operated in the HCCI mode. Diesel was injected during the suction stroke($0^{\circ}$ to $20^{\circ}$ degrees aTDC) using a special injection system in order to prepare a nearly homogeneous charge. The engine was able to develop a BMEP(brake mean effective pressure) in the range of 2.15 to 4.32 bar. Extremely low levels of NOx emissions were observed. Though the engine operation was steady, poor brake thermal efficiency(30% lower) and high HC, CO and smoke were problems. The heat release showed two distinct portions: cool flame followed by the main heat release. The low heat release rates were found to result in poor brake thermal efficiency at light loads. At high brake power outputs, improper combustion phasing was the problem. Fuel deposited on the walls was responsible for increased HC and smoke emissions. On the whole, proper combustion phasing and a need for a well- matched injection system were identified as the important needs.

COSMOS : A Computer Code for the Analysis of LWR $UO_2$ and MOX Fuel Rod

  • A computer code COSMOS has been developed based on the CARO-D5 for the thermal analysis of LWR UO$_2$ and MOX fuel rod under steady-state and transient operating conditions. The main purpose of the COSMOS, which considers high turnup characteristics such as thermal conductivity degradation with turnup and rim formation at the outer part of fuel pellet, is to calculate temperature profile across fuel pellet and fission gas release up to high burnup. A new mechanistic fission gas release model developed based on physical processes has been incorporated into the code. In addition, the features of MOX fuel such as change in themo-mechanical properties and the effect of microscopic heterogeneity on fission gas release have been also taken into account so that it can be applied to MOX fuel. Another important feature of the COSMOS is that it can analyze fuel segment refabricated from base irradiated fuel rods in commercial reactors. This feature makes it possible to analyze database obtained from international projects such as the MALDEN and RISO, many of which were collected from refabricated fuel segments. The capacity of the COSMOS has been tested with some number of experimental results obtained from the HALDEN, RISO and FIGARO programs. Comparison with the measured data indicates that, although the COSMOS gives reasonable agreement, the current models need to be improved. This work is being performed using database available from the OECD/NEA.

로켓탄 추진기관 온도반복시험 균열 원인분석 (Analysis of the Causes of Cracks in Rocket Propellant in Thermal Cycling Test)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to derive solutions and prevent similar cases from occurring by analyzing the causes of cracks found in temperature cycling tests of rocket motor. Methods: By combining the results of the current state confirmation test, non-destructive test, domestic and foreign rocket motor comparison test, cutting test, and adhesion test according to the number of times to apply mold release agent, a Cause and Effect Diagram analysis was performed to derive the cause of cracks. Results: Through this study, 26 factors that could cause cracking in rocket motors during temperature cycling tests were identified. Through various additional test results, a total of five causes were identified, including chemical and structural design of the joint between the propellant and stress relief insert, omission of procedure in the manufacturing procedures, natural aging due to temperature, and load accumulation due to temperature changes. The fundamental cause was confirmed to be insufficient consideration of the release properties of the propellant and stress relief insert. Conclusion: During the design process, it was confirmed that this could be solved by structurally or chemically designing the insert so that it does not combine with the propellant, or by applying a mold release agent during the manufacturing process.

  • The time to ignition, heat release rate characteristics and carbon monoxide yield of fiber reinforced and sandwich phenol resin were investigated with cone calorimeter. The fire characteristics of unsaturated polyester, mostly being applied to the existing passenger train, and phenolic resin were compared. Thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA) was used to monitor the degree of thermal decomposition for the phenolic resin. According to the cone calorimeter data, the time to ignition, heat release rate and CO yield was faster and higher as the external heat flux increase. Under the same heat flux, the time to ignition of sandwich type phenolic resin was shorter than that of fiber reinforced. The result of comparison between unsaturated polyester and phenolic resin was that phenolic resin was shown to have better fire resistance than that of unsaturated polyester.

  • High-power devices, such as LEDs and radars, inevitably generate a large amount of heat, which is the main cause of shortening lifespan, deterioration in performance, and failure of electronic devices. The embedded IC process can be a solution; however, when applied to large-area substrates (larger than 8 in), there is a limit owing to the difficulty in the process after wafer thinning. In this study, an 8-in wafer-level high-power electronic package based on the embedded IC process was implemented with temporary bonding and debonding technology using double-sided thermal release tape. Good heat-dissipation characteristics were demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally. These findings will advance the commercialization of high-power electronic packaging.

구획화재에서 벽면의 열전도 계수와 내부 온도의 상관관계 분석 (Investigation of the Relationship Between Wall Thermal Conductivity and Inner Room Temperature in Compartment Fires)

  • 본 연구에서는 Buckingham 파이 정리를 이용하여 구획 공간에서 화재가 발생한 경우 벽면을 구성하는 재료의 열전도 계수와 내부 온도의 상관관계에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해서 기존 무차원 변수의 주요 인자를 고려하여 발열량, 열전도계수, 구획공간의 체적, 벽면 두께 그리고 대류 열전달 계수의 관계를 분석하였다. 또한, 발열량에 대한 화염에서의 최대 온도 그리고 벽면의 온도를 산출하기 위해서 내화보드를 사용하여 ISO 9705 룸 코너 시험기(Room Corner Tester)의 1/6 크기를 갖는 축소 규모의 구조물을 제작하였으며, 10 cm, 15 cm 그리고 20 cm인 정사각형 화원에 대해서 가솔린 화재실험을 수행하여 국부 지점의 산소 농도와 화염에서의 온도분포를 측정하였다. 그 결과 대류 열전달 계수와 열전도 계수의 변화에 따라서 외벽에서의 온도가 증가하는 조건을 제시하였으며, 발열량 변화에 대한 Buckingham 파이의 무차원 경험식을 도출하였다. 본 연구 결과는 구획 공간에서 외벽 형상 및 열전도 계수의 변화를 고려한 화재 현상을 연구하기 위한 기초 자료의 활용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

금속산화물(Cu-ferrite)를 이용한 수소제조 연구 (Study on the hydrogen production using the metal oxide (Cu-ferrite))

  • Redox characteristics of metal oxide for hydrogen production by thermochemical water-splitting were investigated. $CuFe_2O_4$ as a redox pair that had a different molar ratio of Cu and Fe were prepared by co-precipitation method. Hydrogen production consisted of water-splitting step and thermal reduction step was performed below 1200K. Redox characteristics of Cu-ferrites were studied using the thermal gravimetric analysis technique. Also, structure change of Cu-ferrite during thermal reduction was investigated using the high temperature controlled XRD. In results, oxygen release of Cu-ferrite during the thermal reduction was initiated at oxygen site combined with Cu. Consequently, oxygen release amount of Cu-ferrite was increased with increase of Cu molar ratio of Cu-ferrite. It was found that thermal reduction of Cu-ferrite was begun at $875^\circ{C}$. It was confirmed that structure of Cu-ferrite was changed to metal and cation excess metal oxide during the thermal reduction step.

주거공간 단위가연물의 열역학적 수치해석 모델링에 관한 연구 (A Study for Thermal Mechanism of Residential Combustibles with Numerical Modeling)

  • 본 연구는 주거공간에 배치된 가연물의 열역학적 연소모델을 구현하는데 목적이 있다. 화재하중과 화재 강도는 성능설계의 사용이 증가함에 따라 건축물 화재안전 설계에 중요한 요소로 대두되고 있으며, 컴퓨터를 이용한 수치해석을 통해 예측이 가능해 지고 있다. 주거 가연물의 열역학적 연소특성을 예측하기 위해 각 가연물의 수치해석용 모델을 설계하였다. 해석된 결과를 검증하기 위해 수치해석의 결과를 실물 연소실험의 열방출량 결과와 비교하였다. 수치해석을 위해 FDS를 사용하였으며, 난류해석을 위해 LES모델이 사용되었다. 검증결과 열방출율 및 총발열량은 실험결과와 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.
