  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) films were synthesized on polymer (PES, polyethersulfone) at room temperature by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering. By the control of introducing hydrogen to argon atmosphere, the resistivity of ITO films was obtained at $5.27\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ without substrate heating in comparison with $2.65\;{\times}\;10{-3}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ under hydrogen free condition. ITO film synthesized at Ar condition was changed from amorphous to crystalline. These result from the enhancement of electron temperature in $Ar\;+\;H_2$ plasma, which induces the increase of ionization of target materials and argon. The dominant increase of ions such as In II and O II and neutral Sn I was monitored by optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Thermal energy required for the crystalline film formation is compensated by kinetic energy transfer through ion bombardments to substrate.

  • Effects of operating parameters on electrical properties and ozone generation of Plasma Gun for ballast water treatment were investigated in a laboratory scale experiment. Electrical discharges and ozone generation initiated with applying voltages higher than discharge onset value. Ozone concentration was almost linearly increased with the increase of applied voltage. The optimum electrode gap distance which gave the optimum energy efficiency of ozone generation was 1.95 mm in the experimented apparatus. The effect of inner electrode material on the electrical energy transfer was negligible, however, the difference of electrical and thermal conductivities between electrode materials significantly influenced the ozone generation. In a constant geometrical structure, the electrical energy density played an important role in the ozone generation. The increase of oxygen content in the feeding gas enhanced the ozone generation by lowering ionization potential and promoting ozone source.

  • A mass balance method established in this laboratory was applied to determine the purity of an endosulfan-II pure substance. Gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) was used to measure organic impurities. Total of 10 structurally related organic impurities were detected by GC-FID in the material. Water content was determined to be 0.187% by Karl-Fischer (K-F) coulometry with an oven-drying method. Non-volatile residual impurities was not detected by Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) within the detection limit of 0.04% (0.7 ${\mu}g$ in absolute amount). Residual solvents within the substance were determined to be 0.007% in the Endosulfan-II pure substance by running GC-FID after dissolving it with two solvents. The purity of the endosulfan-II was finally assigned to be ($99.17{\pm}0.14$)%. Details of the mass balance method including interpretation and evaluating uncertainties of results from each individual methods and the finally assayed purity were also described.

  • This paper describes a micro total analysis system ($\mu$ TAS) for detecting and digesting the target protein which includes a bead based temperature controllable microchip and computer based controllers for temperature and valve actuation. We firstly combined the temperature control function with a bead based microchip and realized the on-chip sequential reactions using two kinds of beads. The PEG-grafted bead, on which RNA aptamer was immobilized, was used for capturing and releasing the target protein. The target protein can be chosen by the type of RNA aptamer. In this paper, we used the RNA aptamer of HCV replicase. The trypsin coated bead was used for digesting the released protein prior to the matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometer (MALDI TOF MS). Heat is applied for release of the captured protein binding on the bead, thermal denaturation and trypsin digestion. PDMS microchannel and PDMS micro pneumatic valves were also combined for the small volume liquid handling. The entire procedures for the detection and the digestion of the target protein were successfully carried out on a microchip without any other chemical treatment or off-chip handling using $20\;{\mu}l$ protein mixture within 20 min. We could acquire six matched peaks (7% sequence coverage) of HCV replicase.

  • Rb-Sr isotopic ages of oxidized biotite in the weathering profile of granodiorite, Yecheon area, were measured by thermal ionization mass spectrometry, and compared with their K-Ar ages. A decrease of Rb-Sr isotopic age is well correlated with iron oxidation, and consistent with K-Ar age. Octahedral and interlayer cations including Rb and Sr were partly released from the oxidizing biotite by excess positive charge from iron oxidation. Divalent /sup 87/Sr decayed from monovalent /sup 87/Rb was more easily released from biotite, resulting in the reduction of Rb-Sr isotopic age. Weathered biotite is not suitable for the age dating of parent rocks, but behaviour of radiogenic isotopes provides useful information on the geochemical and structural changes of biotite during weathering.

  • Lead isotope ratios in horse-shaped bronze buckles excavated from the Songjeol-dong site in Cheongju and the mid-western region of the Korean Peninsula have been determined by thermal ionization mass spectrometry. The lead isotope ratios of the samples with data provenance were plotted in zone 3 of the South Korean galena map. The results indicated that the horse-shaped bronze buckles could be made using galena located in the same area as the archaeological site. These results can be used as basic data for comparison purposes in future studies on the manufacturing technology and provenance of bronze artifacts.

  • This paper deals with the computational work to characterize the formation and pinching of a plasma in an X-pinch configuration. A resistive magnetohydrodynamic model of a single fluid and two temperature is adopted assuming a hollow conical structure in the (r,z) domain. The model includes the thermodynamic parameter of tungsten from the corrected Thomas-Fermi EOS(equation of state), determining the average ionization charge, pressure, and internal energy. The transport coefficients, resistivity and thermal conductivity, are obtained by the corrected Lee & More model and a simple radiation loss rate by recombination process is considered in the simulation. The simulation demonstrated the formation of a core-corona plasma and intense compression process near the central region which agrees with the experimental observation in the X-pinch device at Seoul National University. In addition, it confirmed the increase in radiation loss rate with the density and temperature of the core plasma.

  • $Li_2B_4O_7$ and $Na_2B_4O_7$ were synthesized with boron isotopic standard material for the measurement of boron isotopes of positive ions (PTIMS) such as $Li_2BO_2{^+}$ (mass 56, 57) and $Na_2BO_2{^+}$ (mass 88, 89) instead of boron mass 10 and 11. The negative ions (NTIMS) such as $^{10}BO_2{^-}$ and $^{11}BO_2{^-}$(mass 42와 43) were also measured with the same boron isotopic standard material. The precision and accuracy were compared between each method, and prescan of isobaric effect was studied. Good result was obtained from NTIMS method which provided the stable and enough peak intensities with good precision and accuracy. The measurement of boron isotopes were performed in ground water sample with about 8 ng-B ($5{\mu}L$ sample solution) obtained from IAEA for international inter-comparison analysis. The standard deviation was found to be 0.03%. Boron content of this ground water was measured using the NTIMS-IDMS. The result was $1.65{\pm}0.003ug-B/mL$ which was better precision compared to the ICP-AES result.

  • Background: Analysis of enrichment of $UO_2$ is important to verify the information declared by the license-holders. The redundancy methods are required to guarantee the analysis result. Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control (KINAC) used to analyze it with alpha spectrometry and consign to Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS). This article evaluated the similarity of the results with two methods and derive correlation equation. It could be compared to the results measured by TIMS running by KBSI. Materials and Methods: There are not many certified materials for the uranium enrichment value. Therefore, 34 uranium pellets, which have the wide range of uranium enrichment from 0.21 to 4.69 wt%, were used for the experiments by the alpha spectrometry and the TIMS. Results and Discussion: The study shows there are the tendency of analyzed enrichment by each equipment. It shows uranium enrichment with alpha spectrometry evaluated 17% higher than that with TIMS on average. The regression equations were also derived in case the similarity between the two results with two methods is lower than predicted. Two experiments were designed to compare the effect of number of samples. The $R^2$ was 0.9977 with 34 pellets. It shows the equation is appropriate to predict the enrichment values by TIMS with that of alpha spectrometry. The $R^2$ was 0.9858 with four pellets for ten times. The $R^2$ decreased while the number of samples increased. The discrepancy between the lowest and highest enrichment seems to be one of the reason for it. Conclusion: KINAC expects the first equation with 34 samples is useful to predict the result with TIMS, the redundancy method, based on the alpha spectrometry. The extra samples are necessary to collect if the enrichment value analyzed by TIMS is lower than the value predicted with the equation. Further study would be followed related to the impact of the peak counts for each uranium isotopes, sample amount and number of experiments when TIMS established in KINAC by the end of 2018.

  • In recent emerging industry, Display field becomes bigger and bigger, and also semiconductor technology becomes high density integration. In Flat Panel Display, there is an issue that electrostatic phenomenon results in fine dust adsorption as electrostatic capacity increases due to bigger size. Destruction of high integrated circuit and pattern deterioration occur in semiconductor and this causes the problem of weakening of thermal resistance. In order to solve this sort of electrostatic failure in this process, Soft X-ray ionizer is mainly used. Soft X-ray Ionizer does not only generate electrical noise and minute particle but also is efficient to remove electrostatic as it has a wide range of ionization. X-ray Generating efficiency has an effect on soft X-ray Ionizer affects neutralizing performance. There exist variable factors such as type of anode, thickness, tube voltage etc., and it takes a lot of time and financial resource to find optimal performance by manufacturing with actual X-ray tube source. MCNPX (Monte Carlo N-Particle Extended) is used for simulation to solve this kind of problem, and optimum efficiency of X-ray generation is anticipated. In this study, X-ray generation efficiency was measured according to target material thickness using MCNPX under the conditions that tube voltage is 5 keV, 10 keV, 15 keV and the target Material is Tungsten(W), Gold(Au), Silver(Ag). At the result, Gold(Au) shows optimum efficiency. In Tube voltage 5 keV, optimal target thickness is $0.05{\mu}m$ and Largest energy of Light flux appears $2.22{\times}10^8$ x-ray flux. In Tube voltage 10 keV, optimal target Thickness is $0.18{\mu}m$ and Largest energy of Light flux appears $1.97{\times}10^9$ x-ray flux. In Tube voltage 15 keV, optimal target Thickness is $0.29{\mu}m$ and Largest energy of Light flux appears $4.59{\times}10^9$ x-ray flux.
