Because grain boundaries in polycrystalline silicon act as potential barriers and recombination centers for the photo-generated charge carriers, these defects degrade conversion effiency of solar cell. To reduce these effects of grain boundaries, we investigated various influencing factors such as thermal treatment, various grid pattern, selective wet etching for grain boundaries, buried contact metallization along grain boundaries, grid on metallic thin film. Pretreatment above $900^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere, gettering by $POCl_3$ and Al treatment for back surface field contributed to obtain a high quality poly-Si. To prevent carrier losses at the grain boundaries, we carried out surface treatment using Schimmel etchant. This etchant delineated grain boundaries of $10{\mu}m$ depth as well as surface texturing effect. A metal AI diffusion into grain boundaries on rear side reduced back surface recombination effects at grain boundaries. A combination of fine grid with finger spacing of 0.4mm and buried electrode along grain boundaries improved short circuit current density of solar cell. A ultra-thin Chromium layer of 20nm with transmittance of 80% reduced series resistance. This paper focused on the grain boundary effect for terrestrial applications of solar cells with low cost, large area, and high efficiency.
Effects of representative group II and transition metal ions on the stability of the $poly(dA){\cdot}[poly(dT)]_2$ triplex were investigated by the van’t Hoff plot constructed from a thermal melting curve. The transition, $poly(dA){\cdot}[poly(dT)]_2\;{\rightarrow}\;poly(dA){\cdot}poly(dT)\;+\;poly(dT)$, was non-spontaneous with a positive Gibb’s free energy, endothermic (${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ > 0), and had a favorable entropy change (${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ > 0), as seen from the negative slope and positive y-intercept in the van’t Hoff plot. Therefore, the transition is driven by entropy change. The $Mg^{2+}$ ion was the most effective at stabilization of the triplex, with the effect decreasing in the order of $Mg^{2+}\;>\;Ca^{2+}\;>\;Sr^{2+}\;>\;Ba^{2+}$. A similar stabilization effect was found for the duplex to single strand transition: $poly(dA){\cdot}poly(dT)\;+\;poly(dT)\;→\;poly(dA)\;+\;2poly(dT)$, with a larger positive free energy. The transition metal ions, namely $Ni_{2+},\;Cu_{2+},\;and\;Zn_{2+}$, did not exhibit any effect on triplex stabilization, while showing little effect on duplex stabilization. The different effects on triplex stabilization between group II metal ions and the transition metal ions may be attributed to their difference in binding to DNA; transition metals are known to coordinate with DNA components, including phosphate groups, while group II metal ions conceivably bind DNA via electrostatic interactions. The $Cd_{2+}$ ion was an exception, effectively stabilizing the triplex and melting temperature of the third strand dissociation was higher than that observed in the presence of $Mg_{2+}$, even though it is in the same group with $Zn_{2+}$. The detailed behavior of the $Cd_{2+}$ ion is currently under investigation.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vitro effects of Nd:YAG laser irradiation on removal of a root surface smear layer after root planing in comparison with Tetracycline HCl. The 60 extracted human teeth due to severe periodontal disease were vigorously scaled and root planed with Gracey curet. Thirty specimen($5{\times}5{\times}2mm$) were obtained from root planed surface of 30 human teeth and assigned randomly to one of three groups : root planed group(5 specimen), Tetracycline HCI group(5 specimen, burnished for 5 minutes), and Nd:YAG laser group(25 specimen, German Dental Laser, Fotona Twinlight). Nd:YAG laser group was divided into 4 subgroups according to power of 1W, 1.5W, 2W, 3W at frequency to 10Hz. The specimen were then fixed, and examed by Scanning electron microscopic study. 30 of 60 human teeth used to measurement of the intrapulpal temperature rise during laser irradiation. Laser-irradiated surface exhibited various surface texture from relative flat surface to irregular surface with patent dentinal tubules of various shape and size. In some area, the root surface alteration which are carbonization, pit and crater formation and melting and resolidification were observed. The number of exposed dentinal tubules per unit($100_{\mu}m^2$) on tetracycline HCI group was more than that in the laser group below 1.5W of power(150mJ/pulse) and was significantly less than that in laser group above 2W of power(200mJ/pulse)(P<0.OOl). As power increased the intrapulpal temperature rise also increased. The result suggested that the parameter which effectively remove root surface smear layer than tetracycline HCI may cause thermal damage to pulp and root surface alteration result from laser exposure would indicate need for additional instrumentation. Thus, Nd:YAG laser irradiation in these parameter may not be appropriate for clinical use as adjunct to conventional periodontal therapy.
In a previous paper, the dirunal and monthly changes of the tidal flat temperature and chlorinity were observed. In this paper the resistance of the young short necked clam in various growth stages to the temperature, to the chlorinity and to the exposure were studies. The young clam used were in early (E), medium (M) and late (L) young stages whose shell lengths were 2.0-3.5mm, 9.0-11.0mm. and 14.0-16.0mm., respectively. The results were : 1. At various sea water temperatures , the chlorinity resistance of the young clam was directly proportional to the shell length. 2. When both inadequate sea water temperature and abnormal chlorinity are simultaneously applied, the resistance of these young clams was more markedly reduced than the case of applying either one of these conditions. 3. In clams of M and L, no lethal effect were observed when daily immersion of four to eight hours for a week into the sea water of any concentration of chloriity at 26-34$^{\circ}C$, whereas in E, 37-90% of mortalities were obtained by immersion of eight hours daily into both the fresh water and the sea water of higher chloriniites (more than 23.5$\textperthousand$ Cl) at the same temperature above. 4. The lower critical thermal maximum for lethal to the young clam was 38$^{\circ}C$. With four hours immersion daily at the water temperature of 38$^{\circ}C$, the mortalities of E, M and L to the lower chlorinities (less than 6.7$\textperthousand$Cl) were 100, 70-100 and 27-37% respectively ; to the higher chlorinities (more than 23.5$\textperthousand$Cl) 10-70, 10-37 and 3 % respectively ; to the normal range of chlorinities (13.4-16.8$\textperthousand$Cl) 0-13, 3 and 0 % respectively. 5. No lethal effects were observed in E and M clams immersed continuously for seven days in sea water with chlornities of 7.2 -21.7$\textperthousand$Cl at 18-24$^{\circ}C$, while notable mortalities were observed in E which had been kept at lower (less than 4.8$\textperthousand$ Cl) and higher (more than 24.1$\textperthousand$ Cl) chlorinites. 6. Although the resistance of the young clam to the chlorinity may have to be related closely to the life history of the clam prior subject to the experiment, the adapted chlorinity range was 7.2-19.3$\textperthousand$ Cl and the optimum range was 13.4-16.8$\textperthousand$Cl. 7. Remarkable lethal effects were observed for the E and M clams to the exposure temperature of 38$^{\circ}C$ whereas the L and had no such fatal results.

This study was conducted to explore the potential for use of atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge plasma (atmospheric pressure DBD plasma) as a non-thermal sterilization technology for microorganisms in dried red pepper. The effects of key parameters such as power, exposure time and distance on the sterilization efficiency and the quality of red dried pepper by the atmospheric pressure DBD plasma treatment were investigated. The results revealed that the plasma treatment was very effective for sterilization of Staphylococcus aureus, with 15 min of treatment at 1.0 kW and 20 mm sterilizing 82.6% of the S. aureus. Increasing the power or exposure time and decreasing the exposure distance led to improved sterilization efficiency. The atmospheric pressure DBD plasma treatment showed no effect on the ASTA (American spice trade association) value or hardness of dried red pepper. Furthermore, no effects of atmospheric pressure DBD plasma treatment were observed on the sensory properties of dried red pepper. To assess the storage stability, the dried red pepper was treated with atmospheric pressure DBD plasma (1.5 kW power, 15 min exposure time and 10 mm exposure distance), then stored for 12 weeks at $25^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the ASTA value, hardness and capsaicin concentration of dried red pepper were maintained.

Effects of elevated $CO_2$ on leaf phenology of Quercus acutissima were examined using open-top chambers, which had ambient and elevated $CO_2$ concentrations (ambient ${\times}1.4$, ambient ${\times}1.8$). To analyze the effect of chamber, non-treatment block was established near outside of the chambers. In 2013, budburst, leaf unfolding, coloring, and shedding were surveyed, and spring phenology was surveyed in 2014. Thermal sum (base temperature $+5^{\circ}C$) of each phenological event occurred was recorded. In addition, bud samples were collected and analyzed for carbohydrate contents in March 2014. Elevated $CO_2$ concentration advanced budburst and leaf unfolding, and delayed shedding in 2013. However, in 2014, the temperature of the spring season was high, and there was no significant effect of elevated $CO_2$ concentration on spring phenology. Carbohydrates content, such as starch, total non-structural carbohydrate and total soluble sugar, were significantly increased in response to elevated $CO_2$ concentration. It has been proposed that elevated $CO_2$ concentration could extend the growing season of temperate species with increased possibility of frost damage due to early bud opening and leaf unfolding. However, our analysis showed that the increased carbohydrate concentration in bud under elevated $CO_2$ would reduce the possibility of early spring frost damage by acting as cryoprotectant.
In order to investigate the effects of substrate bias voltage on the formation of$ZnS-SiO_2$ protective film in phase change optical disk by R.F. magnetron sputtering method, thin dielectric film was formed on Si wafer and Corning glass by using ZnS(80mol%)-$SiO_2$(20mol%)t arget under argon gas. In this study, the Taguchi experimental method was applied in order to obtain optimum conditions with reduced number of experiments and to control numerous variables effectively. At the same time this method can assure the reproducibility of experiments. Optimum conditions for film formation obtained by above method were target RF power of 200 W. substrate RF power of 20 W, Ar pressure of 5 mTorr. sputtering time of 20 min.. respectively. The phase of specimen was determined by using XRD and TEM. The compositional analysis of specimen was performed by XPS test. In order to measure the thermal resistivity of deposited specimen, annealing test was carried out at $300^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$. For the account of void fraction in thin film, the Bruggeman EMA(Effective Medium Approximation) method was applied using the optical data obtained by Spectroscopic Ellipsometry. According to the results of this work, the existence of strong interaction between bias voltage and sputtering time was confirmed for refractive index value. According to XRD and TEM analysis of specimen, the film structure formed in bias voltage resulted in more refined structures than that formed without bias voltage. But excess bias voltage resulted in grain growth in thin film. It was confirmed that the application of optimum bias voltage increased film density by reduction of void fraction of about 3.7%.

The purpose of this study was to analyze air temperature decreasing effects by shading and ventilation at micro-scale experiment plots, especially focused on the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) in outdoor spaces. To monitor the time-serial changes of Dry-bulb Temperature (DT), Globe Temperature (GT) and Relative Humidity (RH) in the wind blocking and shading conditions, Two hexahedral steel frames were established on the open grass field, the dimension of each frame was 1.5m(W)${\times}$1.5m(L)${\times}$1.5m(H). Four vertical side of one frame was covered by transparent polyethylene film to prevent wind passing through (Wind break plot; WP). The top side of the other frame was covered with shading curtain which intercept 95% of solar light and energy (Shading plot; SP). And, Another vertical steel frame without any treatment preventing ventilation and sunlight was set up, which represents natural conditions (Control plot; CP). The major findings were as follows; 1. The average globe temperature (GT) was highest at WP showing $50.94^{\circ}C$ and lowest at SP showing $34.58^{\circ}C$. The GT of natural condition (SP) was $42.31^{\circ}C$ locating the midst between WP and SP. The difference of GT of each plot was about $8-16^{\circ}C$, which means the ventilation and shading has significant effect on decreasing the temperature. 2. WP showed the highest average dry-bulb temperature (DT) of $38.41^{\circ}C$ which apparently differ from SP and CP showing $31.94^{\circ}C$ and $33.15^{\circ}C$ respectively. The DT of SP and CP were nearly the same. 3. The average relative humidity (RH) was lowest at WP showing 15.21%, but SP and CP had similar RH 28.79%, 28.02% respectively. 4. The average of calculated WBGT were the highest at the WP ($27.61^{\circ}C$) and the lowest at the SP ($23.64^{\circ}C$). The CP ($25.49^{\circ}C$) was in the middle of the others. As summery, compared with natural condition (CP), the wind blocking increased about $2.11^{\circ}C$ WBGT, but the shading decreased about $1.84^{\circ}C$ WBGT. So It can be apparently said that the open space with much shading trees, sheltering furnitures and well-delivered wind corridor can reduce useless and even harmful energy for human outdoor activity considerably in outdoor spaces.

This study is to determine the effects of PCM concentration on the temperature changes of the air layers of a garment when the environmental temperature changes. The selected PCM was Nonadecane and coated on cotton fabrics with PCM concentrations 10%, 20%, and 30%. The temperature changes of the air layers between fabrics were measured by Human-Clothing-Environment Simulator which measure a dynamic heat transfer. After stabilizing at $34^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, the multi layered garment system were exposed to $5^{\circ}C$ or $10^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes and then, exposed to $34^{\circ}C$ for 30minutes. The results like following could be obtained. When the environmental temperature changed high to low, temperature of the air layer increased by heating effect of PCM. In the contrast, when the environmental temperature changed low to high, the temperature increase of the air layer was delayed because of cooling effect by PCM. Also, the more concentration of PCM, the bigger the heating effect. Cooling effect showed more clearly at PCM concentration 20%. The temperature differences of the air layers between with PCM fabrics and with non-PCM fabrics were bigger at $10^{\circ}C$ than at $5^{\circ}C$. Consequently, though PCM has influenced on the temperature of the air layer by heating and cooling effect, those effects haven't shown in all layers equally. It was shown that the effect of PCM varied according to the layer in the case of multi layered garment system and heat gain as well as heat loss in the outermost layer had to be taken into account.

In this study, the effect of surface roughness distribution and its influence on the inflight icing code was investigated. Previous numerical studies focused on the magnitude of surface roughness, and the effects were only addressed in terms of changes in thermal boundary layers with fully turbulent assumption. In addition, the empirical formula was used to take account the turbulent transition due to surface roughness, which was regarded as reducing the accuracy of ice shape prediction. Therefore, in this study, the turbulent transition model based on the two-equation turbulence model was applied to consider the effects of surface roughness. In order to consider the effect of surface roughness, the transport equation for roughness amplification parameter was applied, and the surface roughness distribution model was implemented to consider the physical properties. For validation, the surface roughness, convective heat transfer coefficient, and ice shape were compared with experimental results and other numerical methodology. As a result, it was confirmed that the excessive prediction of the heat transfer coefficient at the leading edge and the ice horn shape at the bottom of the airfoil were improved accordingly.
