  • A DSP-based nonlinear speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) which is robust to unknown parameter variations and speed measurement error is presented. The model reference adaptive system(MRAS) based adaptation mechanisms for the estimation of slowly varying parameters are derived using the Lyapunov stability theory. For the disturbances or quickly varying parameters, a quasi-linearized and decoupled model including the influence of parameter variations and speed measurement error on the nonlinear speed control of the PMSM is derived. Based on this model, a boundary layer integral sliding mode controller to improve the robustness and performance of a PMSM drive is designed and compared with the conventional controller. To show the validity of the proposed control scheme, simulations and experimental works are carried out and compared with the conventional control scheme.

  • Two major roles of the traction control system (TCS) are to guarantee the acceleration performance and directional stability even in extreme road conditions, under which average drivers may not control the car properly. Commercial TCSs use experiential methods such as lookup table and gain-scheduling to achieve proper performance under various road and vehicle conditions. This paper proposes a new slip controller which uses the brake and the throttle actuator simultaneously. To avoid measurement problems and to get a simple structure, the brake controller and the throttle controller are designed using Lyapunov redesign method and multiple sliding mode control respectively. Through the hybrid use of brake and throttle controllers, the vehicle is insensitive to the variation of the vehicle mass, brake gain and road condition and can achieve the required acceleration performance. The proposed method is validated with simulations based on 15 DOF passenger car model.

  • Nowadays DC-DC converter has been used widely in electronic production. It has a high requirement in wide input voltage, load variations, stability, providing a fast transient response and lower overshoot. However, it is not easy to be controlled because of its nonlinearity. In this paper, the nonlinear model of DC-DC converter is approximatedby four linear models and sub-controllers are designed by using the LMI guaranteeing the stability of the sub-systems at the same time. For the robust of the control system, an integral sliding mode control (ISMC) is applied together with LMI fuzzy controller. The proposed controller supports a fast and almost no overshooting transient response for the DC-DC converter control.

  • In this paper, we design a robust controller of biped robot system with uncertainties, using recurrent neural network. In our proposed control system, we use the self-recurrent wavelet neural network (SRWNN). The SRWNN makes up for the weak points in wavelet neural network(WNN). While the WNN has fast convergence ability, it dose not have a memory. So the WNN cannot confront unexpected change of the system. However, the SRWNN, having advantage of WNN such as fast convergence, can easily encounter the unexpected change of the system. For stable walking control of biped robot, we use sliding mode control (SMC). Here, uncertainties are predicted by SRWNN. The weights of SRWNN are trained by adaptive laws based on Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, we carry out computer simulations with a biped robot model to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control system,.

  • The objective of this paper is to design the variable structure system(VSS) controller for the tracking control of excavator which is driven by electro-hydraulic servomechansim. It is generally agreed that the dynamic characteristics of the robot arm such as excavator are coupled, time varying, and highly nonlinear, and also hydraulic system contains nonlinear characteristics in itself, so performing exact position control and trajectory tracking control need remarkable consideration. To solve this porblem, this system was designed as a variable structure system. The salient feature of VSS is that the sliding mode occur on a switching surface. While in sliding mode, the system remains insensitive to parameter variations and disturbances. This control algorithm was applied to a hydraulic excavator by simulaltion and to a simulator by experiment. And its effectiveness was verified. And the results of VSS for the electro-hydraulic excavator was compared with that of the PID when load disturbances and system parameter variations exist.

  • Conventional robots actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as harmonic drive had weakness in delivering loads, pressing, grinding, and cutting jobs. To overcome this, the developer a new type of robot actuated by the ball screw. The robot is an articulated shape, which is composed of four axes. The base axis is actuated similarly with conventional robot, but the others are actuated by four bars mechanism composed of the ball screw. We setup the dynamics model of the robot. The robot has parameter uncertainties and nonlinearlity due to the ball screw actuator. To coordinate the robot, we applied sliding-mode control.

  • Hydraulic excavators are the representative of field robot and have been used in various fields of construction. Since the excavator operates in the hazardous working environment, operators of excavator are exposed in harmful environment. Therefore, the hydraulic excavator automation and remote operation system has been investigated to protect from the hazardous working environment. In this paper, remote operation excavator system is developed using the mini hydraulic excavator and the tracking control system of each links of excavator is designed. To apply the tracking control system, the adaptive sliding mode control algorithm is proposed. It is found that the performance of the proposed control system is improved through experimental results of using the remote operation excavator system.

  • A robust position control scheme for a Brushless Direct Drive Motor(BLDDM) is presented. To obtain the robustness under the load variation, a Variable Structure Controller(VSC) is used. However, the VSC has a chattering problem and require the full state informations. To overcome this problem, in this paper, the sliding mode observer is used for compensating the load disturbance and estimating the motor velocity. As a result, the VSC for a BLDDM posision control is designed by using only position measurment and the chattering problem is greatly reduced. To show the validaty of the proposed scheme, the simulation study is carried out.

  • Using a sole input variable simplifies the design process for the fuzzy logic controller(FLC). This is called single-input fuzzy logic controller(SFLC). However it is still deficient in the capability of adapting to the varying operating conditions. We here design a single-input adaptive fuzzy logic controller(AFLC) using a switching function of the sliding mode control. The AFLC can directly incorporate linguistic fuzzy control rules into the controller. Hence some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy rules can be adjusted by an adaptive law. In the proposed AFLC center values of fuzzy sets are directly adjusted by a fuzzy logic system. We prove that 1) its closed-loop system is globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and 2)its tracking error converges to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulation using a nonlinear plant.
