  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze functional independence and need for home nursing care in stroke patients. Method: This was a descriptive study. The subjects comprised 117 stroke patients who were supposed to discharge in less than a week. The instruments used for this study were the functional independence measure(FIM) and the need assessment for home nursing care of stroke patients. The data were analyzed using frequency, mean, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Pearson correlation analysis revealed that there were negative correlations between subcategories of the FIM and the need for home nursing care in stroke patients. Especially, in case of the subjects who recorded lower scores at self-care they showed higher needs for home nursing care in the domain of physical problem and rehabilitation. Conclusion: For the operation of the home nursing care, the protocol for home nursing care is needed to the stroke patients living at home. The FIM instrument is recommended as a useful scale in order to assess the disability for the stroke patients and the need for home nursing care because this one has correlation with the scale of need for home nursing care.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the maternal role education program for primiparas in mother-infant interaction, childrearing environment, and infant development. Method: A Non-equivalent control group time-series design was used. For the intervention group, programmed parenting education focusing on mother-infant interaction, home environment for infant development, and parent counseling and support was provided via home visits or telephone for twelve months. Result: Significant differences were found in the mother-infant interaction feeding scale at one and three months, but no differences were found in the teaching scale at six and twelve months between the intervention and control groups. Also, the difference in childrearing environment (HOME) between the two groups was significant at three, six, twelve months. In addition, the intervention group showed higher GQ in the Griffiths mental development scale at three and six months. In multiple regression analysis, 22.6% to 43.6% of infant development was explained by HOME, mother-infant interaction, and previous development. Conclusion: The maternal role education program proved to be effective in promoting mother-infant interaction, organizing the childrearing environment, and fostering infant development.

  • The purpose of this study was to validate the Elementary HOME(Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment) with korean elementary children. Subjects were 536 mothers 1st-5th graders in the elementary schools in the Seoul. Pearson's r, pearcentage(%), phi($\phi$/), Cronbach's $\alpha$/ ware conducted for the statistical analysis. The major findings were as follows. 1) The item pass rate(percentage) were ranged 16~98. 2) The discriminant coefficients($\phi$/) of the item were ranged 0.06~0.58. 3) The reliability coefficients of the scale were that the split-falf was 0.84, and Cronbach's $\alpha$/ was 0.88. Considering the length of the scale, these reliability estimates appear to be at an acceptable level 4) The factor analysis and the correlations between HOME and SES indices and children's school schievement to test construct validity were conducted to test construct validity. Eight factors were extracted from the factor analysis and coefficients(r) were ranged 0.16~0.45 and -0.08~0.37.

  • The purpose of this study was to inquire into performance of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children based on HOME environment stimuli and age. For the purpose of this, a trained tester carried out K-WISC-IV oriented to 128 children aged 6-16, and this study conducted HOME to mothers. Regarding participants' full Scale IQ and 4 index score(Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory, Processing Speed) and HOME, they were analyzed by age group of two: a group of children aged 6-10 and another group of children aged 11-16. According to the analysis results, both age groups showed a significant positive correlation between Full Scale IQ, Verbal Comprehension Index, and HOME environment stimuli. The results of this study were discussed and proposed the necessity of studies in relation to performance of diverse subtests in accordance with amendment of future intelligence scales.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the Children's Social Support Scale to assess three potential aspects of social support in elementary school age children ; the children's subjective apprasials of family, peer, and teacher support ; the frequency of supportive behaviors available from the child's support network; and the size of children's social support network. The subjects of this study were 380 children of forth and sixth graders in elementary schools located in Seoul. The 68 items(perceived support scale 30 items, enacted support scale 35 items, and support network 3 items) were analyzed by the statistical methods of item analysis, principal factor analysis, Factor analysis revealed that a three factor solution was the best for the Perceived Support scale ; family peer, teacher support. Enacted Support scale comprised of three factors; emotional, self-esteem, and informational support. Support Network scale was composed of emotional, self-esteem, and informational support network. Reliabilities for the domains ranged form .75-89. It was concluded that the children's Social Support scale in general is acceptable for use in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a standardized scale to diagnostic life planning in late adolescence. A preliminary 32 item scale was developed through a literature review & a survey. 896 people responded to an online survey using the preliminary scale. A series of test, such as test-retest, item-to-total correlation, factor analysis and Cronbach' ${\alpha}$ reliability were conducted using the survey data and a scale comprising 31 items was constructed finally. The diagnostic scale for life planning in late Adolescence consisted of seven factors : (1) complete growth minds (2) life- plan (3) variety experiences (4) close relationships (5) management of healthy body (6) practical finance-plans (7) active preparation of future job. The scale is useful as a guideline for managing life of the late Adolescence. And it is helpful to them to make plan for the better life.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a scale for evaluation of preschool children's peer competence and to examine its validity and reliability. The 15 items of the preliminary scale were completed by teachers, and peer rating scale for assessment of peer acceptance was administered to 365 children 5 to 6 years of age. The methods for data analysis included item analysis, factor analysis for construct validity, Pearson correlations between teacher's ratings of peer competence and children's ratings of peer acceptance for concurrent validity, and Cronbach's u for reliability. The 15 items of the scathe were found be satisfactory in terms of item response distribution and item discrimination. Factor analysis revealed that a 3-factor solution was the best fit: sociability, prosocial behavior, leadership in peer relations. Correlations between teacher's ratings and children's ratings were as significant. Cronbach'so ranged from .88 to .93 for three subscales and .93 for the total scale. It was concluded that the psychometric properties of the peer competence scale in general were acceptable for use.

  • This study is intended to develop a scale to measure familism. Construction of this scale is based on a sample of 448 married males and females living in Seoul. This scale to measure familism is developed by employing a type of item analysis method called correlation analysis. 13 items are selected by correlation analysis, and these are found statistically significant even by analysis based on the criterion of internal consistency. Validity of this scale is evidenced by logical validation, jury opinion and independent criteria. Reliability estimate assessed by Cronbach's alpha coefficients is .759. This scale comprises the following 4 aspects of familism: 1) Support for filial piety and ancestor worship. 2) Integration of individual activities into family ones for achievement of family objectives. 3) Obligation to support individual family members and give them financial assistance when needed, on the assumption that properties such as land, money, etc. belong to family. 4) Mutual aid in psychological and social aspects between parents and married children, and married children and their married siblings. It is concluded that this familism scale represents an improvement on other measure of familism, but that a number of methodological issues remain to be further studied.
