  • Current Seismic Design Procedure has been developed and improved mostly based on the experiences of the past earthquakes. Many engineers and researchers believe that the seismic codes and provisions are adequate for the basic objective of the code which is "life-safe". However they doubt the performance of the structure during the earthquake. The seismic code seems the black box for the designers which means it is not transparent since the designer can not predict the level of the damage of the structure under future earthquakes. This purpose of this study is to check the validity of the current seismic design procedures. Two structures with different heights are designed and their seismic performances are evaluated for this purpose. Both structures are assumed to be located at the same strong seismic zone.

  • In this study, the fabrics were woven with worsted grams of Nm 2/72 and the structure of 5 harness satin on rapier and air-jet loom with different weft insertion mechanism and then fabrics were finished in the same processes. Also the physical properties were measured with KES-FB system and discussed with the characteristics of looms for comparing the difference of physical properties of the worsted fabrics which were woven with two different looms under the same structure. Pot shearing and compression properties, then showed similar behavior and the fabric finishing processes were seemed to affect much more than the difference of the loom types. For the surface roughness, the rapier fabrics showed higher irregularity than the air-jet fabrics.

Design of Main Body and Edge Termination of 100 V Class Super-junction Trench MOSFET

  • For the conventional power MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor) device structure, there exists a tradeoff relationship between specific on-state resistance (Ron,sp) and breakdown voltage (BV). In order to overcome this tradeoff, a super-junction (SJ) trench MOSFET (TMOSFET) structure with uniform or non-uniform doping concentration, which decreases linearly in the vertical direction from the N drift region at the bottom to the channel at the top, for an optimal design is suggested in this paper. The on-state resistance of $0.96m{\Omega}-cm2$ at the SJ TMOSFET is much less than that at the conventional power MOSFET under the same breakdown voltage of 100V. A design methodology for the edge termination is proposed to achieve the same breakdown voltage and on-state resistance as the main body of the super-junction TMOSFET by using of the SILVACO TCAD 2D device simulator, Atlas.

Experimental study on the fatigue performance of aluminum foam sandwich with 304 stainless steel face-sheet

  • This work focused on aluminum foam sandwich (AFS) with different foam core densities and different face-sheet thicknesses subjected to constant amplitude three-point bending cyclic loading to study its fatigue performance. The experiments were conducted out by a high frequency fatigue test machine named GPS-100. The experimental results showed that the fatigue life of AFS decreased with the increasing loading level and the structure was sensitive to cyclic loading, especially when the loading level was under 20%. S-N curves of nine groups of AFS specimens were obtained and the fatigue life of AFS followed three-parameter lognormal distribution well. AFS under low cyclic loading showed pronounced cyclic hardening and the static strength after fatigue test increased. For the same loading level, effects of foam core density and face-sheet thickness on the fatigue life of AFS structure were trade-off and for the same loading value, the fatigue life of AFS increased with aluminum foam core density or face-sheet thickness monotonously. Core shear was the main failure mode in the present study.

  • The behavior of angular distortion in butt joint wleding of thin plate structure is investigated with an experimental model and partially with a computational model. The experimental model studying the effects of specimene size and degree of restraint on the angular distorion offers a good method for analyzing the behavior of the distrotion. In addition, the distrotion during welding was demonstrated by both experimental measurement and numericla prediciton. The facts evealed in this study are as follows : 1) distrotion angles were changed with variations of specimene wldth. 2) With the restraint, angular distrotion was reduced to 20% to that of free joint. 3) After the restraint being removed, the effect of restraint was also remained. 4) Same heat input per unit thickness caused same amount of distortion. 5) The mode of angular distortion was expected to be changed with expected to be changed with time, i.e. convex movement during heating and concave one during cooling.

  • The Korea's safety standards for vehicle have been strengthened to reduce casualties from traffic accidents since 1962. The standards have a rather complicated structure. The safety standards are composed of the main text and asterisks, and the safety standard implementation rules are composed of the main text, asterisks and appendices, and items of the same name are stipulated in other chapters within the safety standards. This study is to suggest improvement measures such as simplifying the structure of these safety standards and integrating safety standard items with the same name. Through this, users' understanding of the standards will be improved, and it is expected that the system will be more efficient such as securing safety quickly through harmonization with international standards following the development of rapidly changing new technologies such as automated vehicles.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy modified PID controller that uses linear fuzzy inference method. In this structure, the proportional and derivative gains vary with the output of the system under control. 2-input PD type fuzzy controller is designed to obtain the varying gains. The proposed fuzzy PID structure maintains the same performance as the same performance as the general-purpose linear PID controller, and enhances the tracking performance over a wide range of input. Numerical simulations and experimental results show the effectiveness of the fuzzy PID controller in comparison with the conventional PID controller.

  • In general, the microstructure in thin films was known to evolve in similar manner according to the energy striking the condensing film at similar homologous temperature, Th for the materials of the same crystal structure. The fundamental factors affecting particle energy are a function of processing parameters such as working pressure, bias voltage, target/sputtering gas mass ratio, cathode shape, and substrate orientation. In this study, Al, Cu, Pt films of the same crystal structure of face centered cubic (FCC) have been prepared under various processing parameters. The influence of processing variables on the microstructures and residual stress states in the films has been studied.

  • During high speed economic growth period in Korea, our society has focused it's energy on the economic and social development based on the strategy of demolition and destruction of all our natural and man-made environment. In progress with that trend, our small cities in Korea also have just followed the metropolitan physical development pattern and considered that imitation of those metropolitan cities' or western cities' changes be the same meaning of "modernization". Therefore, our valuable urban and architectural heritages have been constantly destructed and that situation has been same in Anseong. Now in the new trend of environmentally sustainable urban design and at the new millenium period, we have to focus our attention on the retaining strategy of city's historicity as a city planner or an architect, and the first step for this strategy shall be to clarify the transition process of urban structure, especially of C.B.D. area of small cities since pre-industrial period.

Multi-task learning with contextual hierarchical attention for Korean coreference resolution

  • Coreference resolution is a task in discourse analysis that links several headwords used in any document object. We suggest pointer networks-based coreference resolution for Korean using multi-task learning (MTL) with an attention mechanism for a hierarchical structure. As Korean is a head-final language, the head can easily be found. Our model learns the distribution by referring to the same entity position and utilizes a pointer network to conduct coreference resolution depending on the input headword. As the input is a document, the input sequence is very long. Thus, the core idea is to learn the word- and sentence-level distributions in parallel with MTL, while using a shared representation to address the long sequence problem. The suggested technique is used to generate word representations for Korean based on contextual information using pre-trained language models for Korean. In the same experimental conditions, our model performed roughly 1.8% better on CoNLL F1 than previous research without hierarchical structure.
