영어학습 유형별 뇌기능 활성화에 대한 정량뇌파연구 (Quantitative EEG research by the brain activities on the various fields of the English education)

  • 본 연구는 영어학습 영역별 (듣기쓰기능력, 단어수준, 스피킹, 단어기억, 리스닝) 성취도에 따른 대뇌피질 내의 뇌기능 활성화에 대한 관련성을 규명한 것이다. 좌뇌 기반으로 알려진 영어학습에 대한 우뇌적 요인에 대한 연구들이 진행되었다. 뇌기능 영상화 중에서 정량뇌파분석를 사용하여 영어학습에 관여하는 뇌 영역별 정량뇌파 결과를 분석함으로써 영어학습을 뇌 영역별 활성화로 변별할 수 있는 기준을 마련한 것이다. 영어학습의 좌우뇌 균형발달을 위한 지침을 제시하였으며 특정 학습영역과 연계한 뇌의 활성화를 제시함으로써 개인별 뇌 기능에 따른 영어학습 향상을 위한 뇌기능을 훈련할 수 있는 이론적 토대를 마련하였다 (권형규, 2008). 이를 통하여 단순한 이미지와 오감을 활용한 우뇌적 학습방향이 아니라 개인별 정량뇌파 데이터에 의한 통합뇌 훈련모형을 개발하였다. 정량뇌파 분석을 위해서는 피험자 개인별 영어능력 검사점수에 대한 뇌파지표를 도출하여 단계적 변수선택법에 의한 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다.

삼음교(三陰交)(Sp6) 전침자극(電針刺戟)이 fMRI상 뇌활성변화(腦活性變化)에 미치는 영향(影響) (fMRI study on the cerebral activity induced by Electro-acupuncture on Sanyinjiao(Sp6))

  • Objective : Recently, many studies have showed the evidences of the effect of the acupunture treatment through scientific methods. One of these methods is functional MRI. We performed electro-acupunture on Sp6 and observed the changes of brain activation using fMRI. Methods : To see the effect of electro-acupunture stimulation on Sp6, the experiment was carried out on 12 healthy volunteers, using the gradient echo sequence with the 3.0T whole-body MRI system(ISOL). After the needle insertion on right Sp6, 2Hz of electric stimulation was given for 30 seconds, repeated five times, with 30 seconds' intervals. The Image analysis including motion correction, talairach transformation, and smoothing was done with SPM99. Results : 1. Group averaged brain activation induced by bilateral eletro-acupunture stimulation on Sp6 activates Brodman Area 3, 7, 13. 2. Group averaged brain deactivation induced by bilateral eletro-acupunture stimulation on Sp6 activates Brodman Area 6, 38, 47. 3. Group averaged brain activation induced by unilateral(right side) eletro-acupunture stimulation on Sp6 activates Brodman Area 5, 6, 13, 17, 18, 19, 31, 38, 40 ptoms, back pain(32.5%) was the 4. Group averaged brain deactivation induced by unilateral(right side) eletro-acupunture stimulation on Sp6 activates Brodman Area 3, 4, 18, 21, 36, 38, 39. 5. 초등학생의 대뇌반구의 지배적 특성에 따른 Holland유형과 소질의 관계분석 (The Correlational Analysis between Holland Personality Types and Gifted by the Cerebral Hemisphere Dominant Feature of Elementary School Students)

  • 본 연구는 초등학생의 대뇌반구의 지배적 특성에 따라 Holland 성격유형 및 소질이 다르게 나타내는지 검증하고, 상관관계를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 초등학교 4~6학년까지 679명을 대상으로 조사했다. SPSS 18.0 통계프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석과 독립표본 t검증, 상관분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 예술형과 진취형이 우반구적 특성을 우세하게 보이고 있는 반면 현실형, 탐구형과 사회형, 관습형은 특징적 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 둘째, 좌반구에서 RIC(현실형 탐구형 관습형)군집이 SAE(사회형 예술형 진취형) 군집과 유의미한 차이가 있었으나 우반구는 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 창의성소질, 자연소질, 대인관계소질, 신체소질 등 소질에서는 우반구가 우세했으나 음악소질, 수리소질에서는 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 넷째, Holland 성격유형, 대뇌반구의 지배적 특성, 소질 간에는 좌반구와 예술형, 우반구와 사회형을 제외하고 상관관계가 나타났다.

흡연 기능성 게임에서 심리생리학적 경험과 흡연의 부정적 태도와의 관계에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Psychophysiological Experience and Negative Attitude in Smoking Serious Games)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 흡연을 주제로 하는 기능성 게임에 따른 흡연 태도의 차이점을 규명하고, 흡연태도와 심리생리학적인 변인 간의 영향관계를 살펴본 뒤, 금연 활동에 도움이 될 수 있는지를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 흡연에 대한 부정적 태도를 종속변인으로 설정하고 부정적 태도에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 심리적 저항, 심리적 디스트레스, 뇌파(Left Brain ${\theta}$, Right Brain ${\theta}$)를 독립변인으로 설정하여 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 흡연에 대한 부정적 태도에 심리적 저항은 부정적으로 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 심리적 디스트레스는 정적으로 영향을 미치고 있었다. 그리고 ${\theta}$파의 경우 좌뇌에서는 부정적으로 영향을 미치고 있었고, 우뇌에서는 정적으로 영향을 미치고 있음이 확인되었다.

가상현실에서 아바타를 통한 정보전달 시 뇌의 활성화와 현존감의 관계 (The Relationship between Brain Activities and Presence on Communication using an Avatar in Virtual Reality)

  • 가상현실은 감각기관에 전달하는 정보를 조작하여 가상의 경험을 피험자에게 제공하고, 사람은 가상현실에서 제공하는 감각적인 정보를 뇌에서 통합하여 상황을 판단한다. 그러한 판단을 통해 가상현실이 얼마나 실제와 같은지 아닌지 지각하고 판단하게 된다. 이렇게 어떤 특정한 또는 이해할 수 있는 장소에 존재한다고 생각하는 인간의 지각상태를 나타내는 요소를 '현존감'이라고 한다. 가상의 환경을 사용자가 실제처럼 느끼고 그 내용을 받아들이도록 하는 것은 중요한 목표이다. 또한 현존감은 가상현실에서 경험하게 되는 여러 가지 감각적인 정보들을 통하여 느끼는 종합적인 느낌을 반영한다. 따라서 여러 가지 감각적인 정보들을 통합하는 과정에서 현존감과 관련된 뇌의 메커니즘이 존재할 것이다. 현존감은 매체를 통한 정보전달 시, 매체에서 전달되는 여러 가지 정보나 자극에 대한 사용자의 지각 및 인식과 중요한 관련이 있기 때문에 현존감의 정도는 개인이 지각하는 정보의 명확성에 영향을 준다. 이를 알아보기 위해서 사회적인 상황에서의 명확성의 차이를 가지는 내용을 아바타를 통해 전달하고 피험자가 그 내용을 바탕으로 추론해보는 가상현실을 구성하였다. 그리고 피험자가 전달받은 내용을 바탕으로 추론하는 동안 뇌 영역 활성화의 차이와 가상현실에 대한 현존감 점수가 관련된 뇌 영역을 알아보았다. 실험 결과 우측 혀이랑, 우측 쐐기소엽, 좌측 혀이랑, 우측 방추상이랑, 좌측 하측두이랑, 전대상피질 그리고 우측 후대상피질에서 유의미한 양의 상관관계가 있었다. 본 연구는 가상현실을 통한 정보의 전달 시 현존감의 영향을 뇌 기능영상 촬영을 통해서 내부 메커니즘의 측면에서 살펴보았다는 것에 의의가 있다.

분쇄기에 의한 얼굴 관통창 1 례 (A Case of Penetrating Facial Wound by a Grinder)

  • Penetrating facial wounds are uncommon and are usually life threatening because of the possibility of brain damage. There are three possible pathways for penetrating the cranium through the orbit: via the orbital roof, via the superior orbital fissure, or between the optic canal and lateral wall of the orbit. Brain injuries resulting from the penetrating wounds show extensive parenchymal damage, hemorrhage, and brain edema. Transorbital penetrating wounds can lead to diverse lesions of the optical apparatus, including the eye globe, the optical nerve, and the chiasm. Moreover, intracerebral structures may be hurt, and bleeding and infection may occur. Early diagnosis and prompt debridement are the fundamental factors affecting the outcome of a penetrating facial wound. An 87-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department with a grinder impacted into the medial aspect of the right eye. On presentation, the man was fully conscious with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 15 and complained of a visual disturbance of the right eye. Computed tomography demonstrated a right orbital medial and inferior wall fracture, a frontal bone fracture, and a contusional hemorrhage in frontal lobe of the brain. A craniotomy with hematoma removal and repair of the orbital floor was done. He showed no neurological deficits except right visual loss. This appears to be the first report of a man with a penetrating facial wound caused by a grinder, who presented with a potentially disastrous craniocerebral injury that did not lead to any serious neurological seguelae.

흰쥐에서 삼투개열법에 의한 $^{99m}Tc$-Diethylene Triamine Pentaacetic Acid 및 페니토인의 뇌로의 송달 (Brain Delivery of $^{99m}Tc$-Diethylene Triamine Pentaacetic Acid and Phenytoin by Transient Osmotic Opening Method in Rats)

  • The blood-brain barrier (BBB) of rats was modificated opening reversibly by infusing a hyperosmotic solution of arabinose (1.6 molal) into the right external carotid artery. Pre vious studies demonstrated that permeability was increased maxmmally in the first 15 min and remained slightly elevated at 1 hr. As control reference, saline was used. In the present study, to evaluate the effects of osmotic BBB opening on the BBB trasport according to hydrophilic or hydrophobic characteristics of drugs. And the differences of the uptakes of these compounds to right (treated osmotic opening) and left (untreated) hemispheres in same rats were compared each other following injection of 8 mCi per rat of $^{99m}Tc$-ethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) as hydrophilic drug or 5mg/kg of phenytoin as hydrophobic drug mto the right external carotid artery of rats between two groups (1.6 molal arabinose vs saline). The uptakes of $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA and phenytoin in the right cerebral hemispheres were increased to about thirty three times and twice rather than those in the left cerebral heimspheres, respectively. And PAs (permeability X capillary surface area) were also increased from a control mean of 2.11${\times}10^{-4}$ (Untreated) to 6.98${\times}10^{-3}\;sec^{-1}$ (treated osmotic opening for $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA and 0.29 to 0.17 $sec^{-1}$ for phenytoin, respectively. From the results of present study, it is noted that osmotic opening of BBB is more effective in the brain delivery of hydrophilic drugs rather than that of hydrophobic drugs.

Injury of the Thalamocortical Pathway Between the Mediodorsal Nuclei and the Prefrontal Cortex in a Patient with Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Purpose: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) refers to brain damage caused by external forces or trauma. TBIs can vary in severity and result from accidents, falls, sports injuries, assaults, or other forms of physical trauma. The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is known have roles in various cognitive functions. We report on a patient with traumatic brain injury who showed prefrontal symptoms after injury of thalamocortical connections between mediodorsal nuclei (MD) of thalamus and PFC. Methods: A 54-year-old, male patient suffered a TBI as a result of a heavy object falling on his head. After onset of TBI, he showed typical symptoms of prefrontal lobe injury, including personality changes, memory impairment, and general cognition problem. The thalamocortical connections between MD and PFC (ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC), dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), and obrbitofrontal cortex (OFC)) were reconstructed using diffusion tensor tractography. In terms of fractional anisotropy value, the right thalamocortical connections to the OFC were significantly lower than those of control subjects. Results: The value of mean diffusivity in the right thalamocortical connections to the DLPFC was significantly higher than that of control subjects. By contrast, both VLPFC and left OFC showed significant decrement in the tract volume of thalamocortical connections compared with that of control subjects. Conclusion: We reported on a patient who showed cognitive and neuropsychiatric impairment due to global injury of the thalamocoritcal connections between MD and PFC following TBI.

초등학생의 학업성취수준에 따른 뇌 선호도와 뇌파에 의한 학습능력의 특성 및 관계 (The Characteristics and Relationships of Learning Abilities by Brain Preference and EEG According to Elementary School Students Academic Achievement Level)

  • This study divided elementary school 6th graders of into a higher academic achievement group (n=19) and a lower academic achievement group (n=19) in order to examine the tendency of left and right hemisphere preferences, characteristics and relationships of learning ability factors by means of EEG. For this purpose, brain waves in performing higher cognitive tasks for 5 min. were measured with a two-channel (Fp1, Fp2) EEG measurement system and hemisphere preference was measured by means of a questionnaire. Our results were as follows. First, hemisphere preference indicated that the higher group showed a left hemisphere tendency and the lower group indicated a right hemisphere tendency. Second, the first learning ability test found that the higher group performed its task rapidly with higher levels of concentration and cognitive strength and lower loading and the lower group conducted its task more slowly with lower levels of concentration and cognitive strength and higher loading. The second test showed that the higher group performed its task rapidly with lower levels of concentration.
