  • Most existing residential environment of disabled people has made them exposed to the risk of safety accidents, and therefore hinders their independent living. In this regard, the importance of desirable residential environment has emerged. Some preceding studies have addressed the characteristics of disabled people's residential environment plan; however, the information on what environmental benefits are offered through such characteristics is insufficient. This study aims to analyze the housing design guidelines for disabled people in respect of the benefit of disabled people who are actual users. In this study, essential design guidelines for disabled people verified through expert workshop panel was analyzed based on user benefit theory. According to the study results, the total guidelines have the most characteristics supporting behavioral facilitation, and mainly consist of physiological maintenance characteristics related to disabled people's health and safety. Also, it is founded that environmental affordance essentially required depending on each spatial function was different. The ratio of physiological maintenance item is high in access route, unlike living room, kitchen and bed room where behavioral facilitation is especially emphasized. These findings can be utilized as basic data for customized residential environment plan to realize residential welfare for disabled people.

Method: A five-item General Health Short Form (SF-36) Health Survey Questionnaire was used to measure subjective health. Social support and self-control were measured by Social Support Questionnaire 6 and Mastery Scale. The level of depression was measured by CES-D (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression). Result: The level of depression was high (M=22.23). Seventy percent of the subjects were depressed. Subjective health and satisfaction with social support influenced self-control. Subjective health influenced the level of depression directly and indirectly, but self-control influenced the level of depression only directly. Conclusion: Subjective health and satisfaction with social support influenced depression through self-control in physically disabled persons. Therefore, when we manage these subjects' depression, it is seemed that program which lowers the level of depression by assessing and correcting these factors should be prepared.

  • Alternative computer access devices are one of the ways for the physically disabled to meet their desire to participate in social activities. Most of these devices provide access to computers by using their feet or heads. However, it is not easy to control the mouse by using their feet, head, etc. with physical disabilities. In this paper, we propose a computer access system for the physically disabled. The proposed system can move the mouse only by the user's gaze using the eye-tracking technology. The mouse can be clicked through the external button which is relatively easy to press, and the character can be inputted easily and quickly through the voice recognition. It also provides detailed functions such as mouse right-click, double-click, drag function, on-screen keyboard function, internet function, scroll function, etc.

  • This paper reports a noble instrument that helps physically disabled people to access computers. There have been numerous attempts to develop such a methodology, but most of them require an additional space for workstation often including access program installation. The additional space also needs to be carefully designed to consider each specific disabled area. This study aims to develop a system that removes the spacial limitation by putting the integrated computer interface using the wheelchair controller. The implementation of the computer workstation is performed by utilizing an USB interface. The developed equipment will take an important role to support various social lives for the users and eventually to improve their quality of life.
