  • The adaptive echo canceller (AEC) has become an important component in speech communication systems, including mobile station. In these applications, the acoustic echo path has a long impulse response. We propose a running-average least mean square (RALMS) algorithm with a detection method for acoustic echo cancellation. Using colored input models, the result clearly shows that the RALMS detection algorithm has a convergence performance superior to the least mean square (LMS) detection algorithm alone. The computational complexity of the new RALMS algorithm is only slightly greater than that of the standard LMS detection algorithm but confers a major improvement in stability.

  • In this paper, a phoneme classification method for Korean speech recognition has been proposed and its performance has been studied. The phoneme classification has been done based on the phonemic features extracted by the prewindowed recursive least-square (PRLS) algorithm that is a kind of adaptive filter algorithms. Applying the PRLS algorithm to input speech signal, precise detection of phoneme boundaries has been made, Reference patterns of Korean phonemes have been generated by the ordinery vector quantization (VQ) of feature vectors obtained manualy from prototype regions of each phoneme. In order to obtain the performance of the proposed phoneme classification method, the method has been tested using spoken names of seven Korean cities which have eleven different consonants and eight different vowels. In the speaker-dependent phoneme classification, the accuracy is about $85\%$ considering simple phonemic rules of Korean language, while the accuracy of the speaker-independent case is far less than that of the speaker-dependent case.

  • With the development of bio computing technology, DNA watermarking to do as a medium of DNA information has been researched in the latest time. However, DNA information is very important in biologic function unlikely multimedia data. Therefore, the reversible DNA watermarking is required for the host DNA information to be perfectively recovered. This paper presents a reversible DNA watermarking using least square based prediction error expansion for noncodng DNA sequence. Our method has three features. The first thing is to encode the character string (A,T,C,G) of nucleotide bases in noncoding region to integer code values by grouping n nucleotide bases. The second thing is to expand the prediction error based on least square (LS) as much as the expandable bits. The last thing is to prevent the false start codon using the comparison searching of adjacent watermarked code values. Experimental results verified that our method has more high embedding capacity than conventional methods and mean prediction method and also makes the prevention of false start codon and the preservation of amino acids.

  • An algorithm for fitting with Least Square is a traditional and an effective method in processing with experimental data. Due to the lack of definite representation, it is difficult to fit measured data with free curves or surfaces. B-Spline is usefully utilized to express free curves and surfaces with a few parameters. This paper presents the combination of these two techniques to process the point data measured from CMM and other similar instruments. This research shows tests and comparison of the simulation results from two techniques.

  • We consider a generalized partly-parametric additive risk model which generalizes the partly parametric additive risk model suggested by McKeague and Sasieni (1994). As an estimation method of this model, we propose to use the weighted least square estimation, suggested by Huffer and McKeague (1991), for Aalen's additive risk model by a piecewise constant risk. We provide an illustrative example as well as a simulation study that compares the performance of our method with the ordinary least squares method.

  • The paper is devoted to study a mesh-free analysis method of structural elements of engineering structures based on B-spline Wavelet Basis Function. First, by employing the moving-least square method and the weighted residual method to solve the structural displacement field, the control equations and the stiffness equations are obtained. And then constructs the displacement field of the structure by using the m-order B-spline wavelet basis function as a weight function. In the end, the paper selects the plane beam structure and the structure with opening hole to carry out numerical analysis of deformation and stress. The Finite Element Method calculation results are compared with the results of the method proposed, and the calculation results of the relative error norm is compared with Gauss weight function as weight function. Therefore, the clarification verified the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

  • PURPOSES : The nonlinear model of fatigue cracking is typically used for determining the maintenance period. However, this requires that the model parameters be known. In this study, the particle filter (PF) method was used to determine various statistical parameters such as the mean and standard deviation values for the nonlinear model of fatigue cracking. METHODS : The PF method was used to determine various statistical parameters for the nonlinear model of fatigue cracking, such as the mean and standard deviation. RESULTS : On comparing the values obtained using the PF method and the least square (LS) method, it was found that PF method was suitable for determining the statistical parameters to be used in the nonlinear model of fatigue cracking. CONCLUSIONS : The values obtained using the PF method were as accurate as those obtained using the LS method. Furthermore, reliability design can be applied because the statistical parameters of mean and standard deviation can be obtained through the PF method.

  • Recently, linear motors are applied to many small precision products. Thus high generating power with small size is required of it. In order to increase the motor efficiency, the design variables need to be optimized. In this study, Vector Fields FEM software, OPERA-3d, was used for simulating linear motor. The thrust and magnetic flux density at the air-gap center were simulated and compared with the experimental results. Taguchi method was applied to investigate the effects of each variables. As a result, the thickness of conductor and magnet was important for the thrust but the thickness of the yoke. The temperature of the conductor was determined by finding the thermal conductivity that was determined by experimentation. Correlation equation relating to the thrust and temperature was proposed by Latin square and Least Square method. The optimum design variables were determined by correlation equation, and compared with simulation results. According to this analysis, thrust force of linear motor was improved about 7% comparing with conventional model.

  • A system identification method is introduced to increase the prediction accuracy of a ship's maneuverability in PMM test, analysis. To improve the accuracy of linear hydrodynamic coefficients, the analysis techniques of pure sway and yaw tests are developed, and confirmed. In the analysis of sway tests, accuracy to linear hydrodynamic coefficients depends on the frequency of sway motion. To obtain nonlinear hydrodynamic coefficients for large drift angles, a combined yaw test is introduced. Using this system identification method, runs of PMM test can be reduced while retaining sufficient accuracy, compared to the Fourier integration method. Through the comparisons with sea trial results and the Fourier integration method, the accuracy and efficiency of the newly proposed system identification method, based on least square method, has been validated.
