  • CdS thin film was prepared on glass substrate by chemical bath deposition in an alkaline solution. The optical properties of CdS thin film were investigated using spectroscopic ellipsometry. The real (${\varepsilon}_1$) and imaginary (${\varepsilon}_2$) parts of the complex dielectric function ${\varepsilon}(E)={\varepsilon}_1(E)+i{\varepsilon}_2(E)$, the refractive index n(E), and the extinction coefficient k(E) of CdS thin film were obtained from spectroscopic ellipsometry. The normal-incidence reflectivity R(E) and absorption coefficient ${\alpha}(E)$ of CdS thin film were obtained using the refractive index and extinction coefficient. The critical points $E_0$ and $E_1$ of CdS thin film were shown in spectra of the dielectric function and optical constants of refractive index, extinction coefficient, normal-incidence reflectivity, and absorption coefficient. The dispersion of refractive index was analyzed by the Wemple-DiDomenico single-oscillator model.

  • The leaky dispersion characteristics of a circular dielectric rod were investigated using Davidenko's method for several lower-order transverse magnetic(TM) modes. The normalized complex propagation constants were precisely determined and their tolerances below $10^{-10}$ compared with zero for both real and imaginary parts. It was also checked whether the normalized complex propagation constants obtained represented forward leaky waves. The leaky modes existing below the cutoff frequency of the guided mode were classified as a nonphysical mode, reactive mode, antenna mode, and spectral gap based on a precise determination of the complex propagation constants. Finally, the effects of the dielectric constant and radius of the dielectric rod on the leaky dispersion characteristics were also considered.

  • It will be described the discovery of fundamental algebras such as complex numbers and the quaternions. Cardano(1539) was the first to introduce special types of complex numbers such as 5$\pm$$\sqrt{-15}$. Girald called the number a$\pm$$\sqrt{-b}$ solutions impossible. The term imaginary numbers was introduced by Descartes(1629) in “Discours la methode, La geometrie.” Euler knew the geometrical representation of complex numbers by points in a plane. Geometrical definitions of the addition and multiplication of complex numbers conceiving as directed line segments in a plane were given by Gauss in 1831. The expression “complex numbers” seems to be Gauss. Hamilton(1843) defined the complex numbers as paire of real numbers subject to conventional rules of addition and multiplication. Cauchy(1874) interpreted the complex numbers as residue classes of polynomials in R[x] modulo $x^2$+1. Sophus Lie(1880) introduced commutators [a, b] by the way expressing infinitesimal transformation as differential operations. In this paper, it will be studied general quaternion algebras to finding of algebraic structure in Algebras.

  • The dielectric anisotropy and dispersion of the real and imaginary part of the permittivity of commercially important nematic mixture E-24 and its polymer composite were investigated in the frequency range from 1 kHz to 10 MHz, and temperature range $14^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. The percentage optical transmittance and density have also been measured for both the systems. The results have been explained by assuming molecular rotation about the long molecular axis, under a hindering nematic potential. The dielectric anisotropy ${\Delta}{\varepsilon}$ is positive, and the mean dielectric permittivity falls with rising temperature. ${\Delta}{\varepsilon}$ is also used to determine the order parameter with varying temperature.

  • The kinematic resolutions of redundancy is addressed in this paper. The governing equation for quasistatic behavior of compliance governed redundant manipulators is formulated and the repeatable property of the manipulator is proposed. Then the compliance paradigm is used to resolve the redundancy in a repeatable way. The compliance paradigm is one under which the controller simulates the imaginary manipulator which is governed to move by real joint stiffness. The equation is expressed as the weighted pseudoinverse with the configuration dependent weighting matrix. Algorithmic singularities arisen from this scheme are also discussed.

  • Padding is a technique that enables applying conventional discrete cosine transform to encode boundary blocks of arbitrarily shaped objects by assigning imaginary values to the pixels that are not included in the object. Padding prevents the increase of high frequency DCT coefficients. However, in some boundary blocks, too many padded pixels are coded due to a small portion of object pixels. To reduce the number of padded pixels and to improve coding efficiency, we propose a block merging method for texture coding. The proposed mothed searches the shape information of boundary blocks and excludes the 4$\times$4 pixels of 8$\times$8 blocks if all the 4$\times$4 pixels are in the background region, and merges the remained 4$\times$4 pixels into new 8$\times$8 blocks. Experimental results show that our proposed method yields a rate-distortion gain about 0.5~1.6㏈ compared to conventional padding method, LPE

  • This paper presents a characteristic analysis method of a permanent magnet type transverse flux linear motor (TFLM) with spiral cores. The spiral cores are used as the mover cores in order to make 3-dimensional (3-D) magnetic flux paths at the TFLM which have 3-D magnetic flux flows. The 3-D Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method is used to analyse the magnetic characteristics of the machine, and an imaginary part, 'flux barrier,' is introduced to consider the spiral core characteristic. Magnetic parameters such as flux, inductance, and thrust are calculated from the analysis results. The computed thrust forces are compared to measured values to confirm the accuracy of the analysis.

  • The research on applying of Typography has been active in a Monitor-environment, and the results have been used in designs. But editing design in imaginary space in the Web environment is still using the applying way in the program's allowed extent instead of editing design for print outs. In this treatise. we will look into appropriate method to apply typography under the Web environment through research, and limitation of applying typography as a method to apply typography into the Web environment appropriately, and discuss the alternative for it.

  • The MESFET can be used as a three-terminal varactor by employing gate depletion capacitance Cg. In this paper, a novel VCDRO(voltage controlled dielecric resonator oscillator) is designed to apply VCDRO with this concept. The VCDRO produced 6.33dBm output power at a frequency of 11.058GHz and tunning bandwidth of 45MHz. The advantage of using the MESFET as a three-terminal varactor is to let the MESFET play both roles at the same time, thus simplifying the circuit configuration and fabrication. This finding demonstrates the potential of using both real and imaginary parts of the equivalent impedance of the active device.

  • The influence of structural transition on the resistance and impedance behavior of Ni$_2$MnGa alloy was investigated. The temperature-dependent resistance and impedance were measured in a temperature range of 4 - 350 K and 185 - 300 K, respectively. The dependence of temperature coefficient of resistivity on temperature shows a kink at 220 K, which is related to the structural transition. The change in dominant scattering mechanism results in the observed kink. Significant increases were also observed around the transition temperature for both real and imaginary parts of impedance. It is thought that this phenomenon originates from disappearance of the martensite twin boundaries during the structural transformation.
