Novel Preamble Design for Channel Estimation in FBMC/OQAM Systems

  • The nonorthogonality between the real and imaginary FBMC/OQAM modulated signals complicates the channel estimation (CE) process, and conventional OFDM CE methods cannot be directly applied to FBMC/OQAM. The conventional preamble-based CE schemes in FBMC/OQAM systems are mainly based on the interference approximation method (IAM) to improve the estimation performance. In this paper, we develop a novel preamble structure to improve the CE performance. We exploit the symmetry pattern to cancel interference and take into account the interference weights in this symmetric structure. The conventional preamble and the proposed preamble are compared via simulations in the IEEE 802.22, 3GPP Vehicular A and Pedestrian A channels. Numerical simulation results demonstrate that the proposed preamble can achieve better bit error ratio (BER) and mean squared error (MSE) performance under the three channel models considered.

  • As a new suspension is being designed, the designer should consider that the vehicle has a good ride and handling performance. It is not easy for a yound desigineer to decide the design parameters. In this study, the design process of a suspension system is described. the method of optimized design to achieve the target of vehicle performance from the initial layout to detailed design stage is also described. As a result, the effects of design parameters in the vehicle dynamic performance are mentioned by the synthesized program

Interval finite element method for complex eigenvalues of closed-loop systems with uncertain parameters

  • In practical engineering, the uncertain concept plays an important role in the control problems of the vibration structures. In this paper, based on matrix perturbation theory and interval finite element method, the closed-loop vibration control system with uncertain parameters is discussed. A new method is presented to develop an algorithm to estimate the upper and lower bounds of the real parts and imaginary parts of the complex eigenvalues of vibration control systems. The results are derived in terms of physical parameters. The present method is implemented for a vibration control system of the frame structure. To show the validity and effectiveness, we compare the numerical results obtained by the present method with those obtained by the classical random perturbation.

  • In this work, we investigate the quasi-static crawling of the four-bar mechanism. Since the crawling of the mechanism is based on sliding of contact points of the mechanism with the ground, interaction forces and friction forces at contact points of the mechanism with the ground should be computed. For this purpuse, we introduce the concept of imaginary joints to find these forces. Therefore, we are able to treat the closed mechanism as a serial one. Also, sliding conditions of the mechanism in quasi-static equilibrium are examined. Lastly, the required torques for the mechanism to crawl with respect to various configurations of the mechanism but with a fixed ground friction are investigated.

  • The hydrodynamic interaction characteristics between multiple floating bodies of semisubmersible type are examined for presenting the basic data for the design of huge offshore structures supported by a large number of the floating bodies in waves. The numerical approach is based on combination of a three-dimensional source distribution method and interaction theory which is exact within the context of linear potential theory. The method is applicable to an arbitrary number of three-dimensional bodies having any individual body geometries and geometrical arrangement with the restriction that the circumscribed, bottom-mounted, imaginary vertical cylinder for each body does not contain any part of the other body. The validity of this procedure was verified by comparing with numerical results obtained in the literature.

  • The configuration factors in the flux transfer method are applied to calculate daylight factors reaching a station point. To analyze the window equipped with a louver system, geometrical correlation is used for the length shielded by the louver. The space in front of a window is assumed to be an imaginary outdoor space for calculating the luminance of the louver system. The data calculated from this study are compared with SUPERLlTE simulation data and the scale model data. Scale model data are collected on the roof of the Engineering building at Korea University in Seoul under the uniform sky condition.

  • The power input to an infinite cylindrical shell excited by a point force is investigated. The circumferential direction and axial direction of the cylindrical shell is assumed as a two-dimensional unbounded medium, and the point force is replaced as a periodic array of imaginary sources. The spatial Fourier transform is taken from the equation of motion of the cylindrical shell, which is derived from the static model of Donell-Mushtari-Vlasov. The inverse Fourier transform is taken to derive the vibration responses. Mobility from out-of-plane forces and in-plane forces are derived from the obtained vibration responses. The theory is applied to a cylindrical shell excited by a normal direction of point force.

Investigation of the visual search patterns of the cockpit displays for the ergonomic cockpit design (인간공학적 조종실 설계를 위한 계기 탐색 형태에 관한 연구)

  • There are many display panels in the flight cockpit and pilots get various flight information from those displays. The ergonomic layout of the displays must be determined based upon frequency of use and sequence of use. This study investigated the visual search patterns of the six display groups(one head-up-display: HUD, two multi function displays: MFDs, one engine group: EG, one flight display group: FD and others) in a fighting aircraft. Four expert pilots conducted Imaginary flight in the physical mock-up and the eye movements were collected using eye tracking system. Data of dwell time, frequency of use, and eye movement path were collected. Pilots spent most of time on HUD(55.2%), and others (21.6%), FD(14.2%), right MFD(4.7%), EG(3.2%), and left MFD(1.1%) in descending order. Similarly HUD(42.8%) and others(30.0%) were the most frequently visited displays. These data can be used in the layout of cockpit displays and the determination of optimal visual search pattern.

  • This paper deals with the novel control algorithm of single-phase hybrid active power filter for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear R-L load with passive active power filters. To construct two-axes coordinate, an imaginary second phase was made by giving time delay to line current. In this proposed method, the new signal, which was the delayed through the filtering by the phase-delay property of low-pass filter, is used as the secondary phase. Because two phases have different phase, instantaneous calculation of harmonic current is possible. In this paper, a reference voltage is created by multiplying gain of filter by compensation current using the rotating reference frames that synchronizes with source-frequency, not applying to instantaneous reactive power theory which has been used with the existing fixed reference frames. This paper shows the experimental results, which provide a high accuracy and extremely fast response of single-phase hybrid active Bower filter under the operation with the proposed control method.
