'Yumyeong' peach has desirable characteristics of long shelf-life and specific non-melting nature with long harvesting period. However, some fruits harvested too late tend to show fruit pithiness symptom or internal breakdown. The study was conducted to investigate the differences between fruit flesh pithiness and internal breakdown symptoms, and to find out inducing factors of flesh pithiness in 'Yumyeong' peach. The incidence of flesh pithiness was higher in the fruits harvested late. Sugar and malic acid contents were not different between normal fruits and flesh pithiness fruits, but the acidity was significantly lower affected by low citric acid content in flesh pithiness fruit. In flesh pithiness fruits, calcium contents were low in both skin and flesh. Occurrence of flesh pithiness fruits was high in the years with low precipitation and high temperature for 2 months before harvest. In observations on morphological characteristics, the parts showing flesh pithiness consisted of smaller cells than the normal parts. Tonoplasts were disintegrated and the number of dead cells was high in internal breakdown fruits, while the tonoplasts were intact with contracted vacuoles in flesh pithiness fruits. Tylosises were observed in vascular tissues around the flesh pithiness, therefore, it was assumed that those tylosises restricts flesh tissue development resulting in flesh pithiness. Other varieties such as 'Fantasia' and 'Wolmi' also showed tylosis and smaller cells were observed in the flesh tissue of these cultivars, indicating abnormal growth of the flesh part. These results suggested the possibility of the occurrence of pithiness like symptoms in other peach varieties.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of mature stages on quality of Rafito tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) during storage at low temperature. Tomatoes grown in greenhouse were harvested at three different mature stages (turning, pink, and red), packaged with a 30-${\mu}m$-thick polyethylene film, and then stored at 5 and $10^{\circ}C$, respectively. The changes in firmness, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), colour, lycopene content, decay, and chilling injury were measured on a weekly basis. After three weeks of storage, chilling injury and decay were found to have individually occurred at 5 and $10^{\circ}C$, respectively. As there was little change in quality at $5^{\circ}C$, it was concluded that red tomatoes could maintain their good quality for two weeks. The normal postharvest ripening was inhibited in the turning and pink tomatoes during storage at $5^{\circ}C$. The turning and pink tomatoes showed improved quality after two-week storage at $10^{\circ}C$. In particular, the turning fruits showed the highest firmness throughout the storage period. Furthermore, the red colour, SSC/TA, and lycopene content of the turning fruits reached the same levels as with the red fruits after two-week storage at $10^{\circ}C$. These results suggest that red tomatoes should be stored at $5^{\circ}C$ to inhibit decay, and that the optimum temperature for early-harvested tomato (turning and pink) is $10^{\circ}C$ for the ripening process after harvest.
Crops show sensitive spectral characteristics according to their species and growth conditions and although frequent observation is required especially in summer, it is difficult to utilize optical satellite images due to the rainy season. To solve this problem, Constrained Cloud-Maximum Normalized difference vegetation index Composite (CC-MNC) algorithm was developed to generate periodic composite images with minimal cloud effect. In thisstudy, using this method, monthly Sentinel-2A/B Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) composite images were produced for paddies and high-latitude cabbage fields from 2019 to 2021. In August 2020, which received 200mm more precipitation than other periods, the effect of clouds, was also significant in MODIS NDVI 16-day composite product. Except for this period, the CC-MNC method was able to reduce the cloud ratio of 45.4% of the original daily image to 14.9%. In the case of rice paddy, there was no significant difference between Sentinel-2A/B and MODIS NDVI values. In addition, it was possible to monitor the rice growth cycle well even with a revisit cycle 5 days. In the case of high-latitude cabbage fields, Sentinel-2A/B showed the short growth cycle of cabbage well, but MODIS showed limitations in spatial resolution. In addition, the CC-MNC method showed that cloud pixels were used for compositing at the harvest time, suggesting that the View Zenith Angle (VZA) threshold needsto be adjusted according to the domestic region.

This study was carried out to get the basic data to practically design an artificial light-used plant factory system for common ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L.) cultivation. The adequate range of light intensity was $120-200{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and the carbon fixed rates was $0.84nmolCO_2{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. When the planting density, light intensity, and yield were $0.0225m^2$ ($15{\times}15cm$), $200{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, and 1,000 plants per day, the total number of the plants, cultivated area, and total light intensities were estimated as 25,000 plants, $563m^2$, and $140,625{\mu}mol{\cdot}s^{-1}$, respectively. About 153.2kW with 2,785 fluorescent lights (FL) needed for the electric power and the electricity charges was 2.46 million won for one month. At a harvest rate of 1,000 plants per day in closed-type plant factory, the light installation cost, total installation cost, and total production cost were 27.85, 83.56, and 100.27 million won, respectively. The production cost per plant including labor cost was calculated as 370 won, providing that the cultivation period was 25 days and marketable ratio was 80%. Considering the annual total expenses, incomes, and depreciation cost, the sales cost per plant could be estimated around 970 won or higher.
To investigate the effect of leaf removal on enlargement and coloring of persimmon fruits (Diospyros kaki L. cv. 'Fuyu'), four treatments control (0%), 20%, 50%, and 100% depend on leaf removal of fruit bearing branch were applied to persimmon trees. Sunlight intensities around fruits with treatments depend on removal level, compared with natural sunlight intensity (100 percentage level), was 7.9%, 13.6%, 16.4%, and 30%, respectively. Hunter $a^*$ of the fruit with control and 20% removal treatments to harvest season increased continuously. $Chroma^*$ of the fruit since the removal treatments of leaves increased continuously in all treatments, but from seventh week that had a decreasing tendency. The fruit weight and diameter were significantly heavy and short in treatments with 100% removal level. L/D ratio of the fruits had a significant difference between control and the other treatments. Soluble solids of the fruits lowed significantly in treatment with 50% removal level. Hunter $a^*$ of the fruits was better in treatments with control and 20% removal levels, Hunter $b^*$ and $Chroma^*$ lowed significantly in treatment with 20% removal level. $\beta$-Carotene and lycopene concentration of the fruits lowed in treatment with the higher of removal level, total chlorophyll contents had the opposite tendency to the pigments. All results considered, removal level of leaves around fruit on bearing branch in fruit maturation stage had effect on fruit coloring improvement.
In this study, I examined the water quality and phytoplankton community in aquaculture laver farm in the southwest part of Aphae-do, South Korea, based on the young leaf stage, middle leaf stage, and adult leaf stage of laver thallus from October, 2013 to January, 2014. It was observed that the Aphae laver farm, as located in shallow waters, was found to have a serious resuspsension of the surface sediments due to physical disturbance caused by winds and tidal mixing. Such a resuspension of surface sediments coupled with nutrients supply obstructs light penetration into the sea for its huge amount of total suspended matters. As a result for this reason, it was viewed toimpedthe growth of phytoplankton was impeded as it also competes with laver to absorb the same kinds of nutrients as laver does during the laver growth period in winter. Such elements of the marine environment in Aphae laver farm are in contrast with the environment of Japan, where nutrients including dissolved inorganic nitrogen, in particular, are insufficient to cause the recent laver bad harvest, discoloration and quality degradation while large diatoms, with their higher nutrients absorption efficiency than laver, generate winter red tide. In other words, an important factor to maintain the high laver production in the southern parts of West Sea of Korea was found to be the marine environment of its laver farms where large diatoms are prevented from growing due to nutrients supply and dense seston weights from resuspended matters by physical disturbances.
A study on the foods of annual custom in Cheongju area was done to know the present practices and compare with Dongkooksesiki (동국세시기(東國歲時記)), Youlyangsesiki (열양세시기(洌陽歲時記)), Kyoungdojabji (경도잡지(京都雜誌)), and the results of a study on the gala foods in Kangweon province. Those annual custom which are celebrated in Cheongju area are Seolnal (New Year's Day) (100%), Chuseok (Harvest Moon Day) (100%), Daeboreum (the 15th of January) (92.6%), Dongji (the winter solstice) (75.2%), and Sambok (the period of summer heat) (67.4%) in the order of higher percentages. No subjects for this survey are keeping on celebrating Junghwa (servants day), Jungwon (the 15th day of the 7th lunar month), and Nabpyoung. Foods of annual custom on Chuseok and Seolnal had a greater variety, compared with those enjoyed on other annual custom. Foods of annual custom such as Ddugguk, Mandoo on Seolnal, Ogokbab, Mugeunnamul, and Buryum on Daeboreum, Songpyun on Chuseok, Patjuk on Dongji were being enjoyed by most people. But the other foods of annual custom are enjoyed in a lower percentage or almost forgotten.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of soil depth and planting density on the growth of lettuce, crown daisy, and strawberry on a rooftop condition using artificial soil as a growth media. The vegetable crops showed better growth for plant height (cm), plant width (cm), plant fresh weight (g), and Fo, Fm and Fv/m on 20cm depth soil than 10cm depth soil except strawberry. Planting density of $16/m^2$ and $64/m^2$ did not show significant differences on the growth of the crops. Soil moisture content and EC were low for 10cm depth soil in lettuce plots, whereas there was no significant differences on soil moisture and EC between two soil depth in strawberry plots. Hunter's L, a, and b values showed the leaf color of lettuce dark green on 20cm depth soil and reddish on 10cm depth soil. Results showed that soil depth suitable for crop growth on rooftop conditions was 20cm rather than 10cm. Growth response of the crops showed no significant difference between $16/m^2$ and $64/m^2$, indicating that planting density of 64 $plants/m^2$ could be practiced on rooftop conditions. Lettuce growth rapidly changed in control treatment in which leaves were not pinched out, while slowly changed in plants which leaves were periodically pinched out. In the case of control plot, it was impossible to harvest because withering of lower leaves after blossom on June 22. The plant of crown daisy in which pinching was not conducted, blossomed on June 7, and the plants were removed since its aesthetical value was lost. Strawberry seemed to be a suitable vegetable crop for rooftop conditions based on its high covering rate and extended growth period until late October. The soil depth 20cm and planting density 64 $plants/m^2$ were suitable for vegetable crops on green roof system using artificial soil.
Gentiana scabra Bunge var buergeri Max, can be widely used such as cut-flower, ornamental and medicinal plant among the native plants. Microscopic and Scanning electron microscopic observation plant were carried out to estimates the characteristics correlated with germinability and germination process, and the results were as follows. The seeds were germinated just after harvest, and it means that there is no or little dormancy of the seeds. Matured seeds showed higher germinability than those of immatured. As the storage period was longer, immatured seeds showed shorter longevity than those of matured. The average longevity was about 190 days. According to the observation results of morphological changes during the germination, seed coat was expanded with water absorption immediately after seeding, and radicals were observed 2 days after seeding. Root hairs were formed behind the growing tip of the root on 4 days after seeding and cotyledon were unfolded on 6 days after seeding. In the microscopic observation of leaf tissues, it could be easily distinguished between midrib, and leaf blade, and also observed upper epidermis, palisade parenchyma and spongy parenchyma consisted as a sing1e layer. Palisade parenchyma was consisted of a single layer of cell. Stomata were restricted lower surface, arranged as anamocytic type, and surrounded by guard cells. In the microscopic anatomy of stem were consisted of cortical layer, forming a single layer of epidermis and parenchyma, and vascular bundle which was consisted of continuous cylinder of vascular tissues.
This study was carried out to develop the proper cultivation methods of Brachythecium rivulare and Myuroclada maximowiczii which showed high-value for the interior landscaping and potting. Growth of two moss species cultivated in the compost covered with cloth was vigorous compared to that grown in containers only using cloth or compost, and their harvesting processes were easier. The growth and harvest easiness of mosses cultivated in compost were great rather than in bark or peatmoss. Compared to division, the spray of crushed mosses using mixer was effective for both gametophyte generation and their harvesting processes. In addition, the optimum inoculum for each container ($27{\times}17{\times}3cm$) was 2.0 g in B. rivulare and 4.0 g in M. maximowiczii. Overall growth of B. rivulare treated with nutrient solution (N:P:K=20:20:20) was inhibited compared to control, fresh-weight gain was reduced toward the higher concentration. But fresh-weight gain of M. maximowiczii was the highest with $0.25g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ treatment. Therefore, adequate moisture supply, after spraying crushed mosses (2.0 and 4.0 g each) in the compost covered with cloth, were the appropriate cultivation methods for B. rivulare and M. maximowiczii. Nutrient solution treatment with low concentration, during the cultivation period, would be the proper way only for M. maximowiczii.
