A Study on the Organization and the Contents of Sikgamboncho(食鑑本草) (비백웅(費伯雄) 『식감본초(食鑑本草)』의 편제와 내용에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Objectives : There exists a number of books that deal with curing diseases with foods. This includes Shennongbencaojing from Han Dynasty era, Zanyin's Shiloaoxingan and Mengxi's Shilaobencao from Tang Dynasty era, Husihui's Yinshanzhengyao from Won Dynasty era, and Feiboxiong's Sikgamboncho from Qing Dynasty era. This paper aims to delve into the food treatment revealed in Sikgamboncho, which is the latest book in the preceeding list, and studied its differences when compared to other medical books that deal with food treatment methods. Methods : The format and contents of Feiboxiong's Sikgamboncho were studied. For its format, Shilaoaoxingan, Yinshanzhengyao, Shikryochanyo, and Donguibogam were used to compare their formats with that of Sikgamboncho in order to discern the unique characteristics found in the book. For its contents, the paper studied food ingredients and food treatment separately, and then studied the historical significance of Feiboxiong's Sikgamboncho. Results : Sikgamboncho categorizes 12 types of grain, 22 types of vegetables, 7 types of cucumis calyx, 27 types of fruit, 9 types of flavor, 4 types of bird, 4 types of animal, 10 types of fish with scales, 4 types of carapace, and 2 types of worm. The book explains each ingredient's harvest period, its nature, potency, and taboos. The food treatment section explains 74 types of treatments that are divided between the wind, cold, summer heat, dampness, dryness category and the qi, blood phlegm, deficiency, and excess category. Each treatment contains its potency and recipe. Conclusions : Feiboxiong underlined the importance of ingredient through placing significance even to the order of ingredients. Out of the total 74 food treatments, 25 treatments were dedicated to deal with weakness. Feiboxiong attempted to prevent human body from becoming weak, which reflects his emphasis on the importance of food and wellness.

Index of Optimum Harvest Time as Seasonal Hesperidin Content Changes for Citrus lemon Juice in Plastic Film House (레몬 하우스 재배에 있어 시기별 과즙의 Hesperidin 함량변화에 따른 적정수확 기준)

  • This study was evaluated that seasonal change of the hesperidin content was in relation to the skin color and weight of fruit in outer or inner side of the canopy, for determine the optimum time and the index of most abundant hesperidin content in lemon fruits juice. The hesperidin content was different with fruit growth and on fruit bearing site of the tree. The fruits of the either side contained the highest hesperidin value at 162 and 176 days after anthesis just after de-greening and the value was highest in the fruits of outer side of the canopy. This time also corresponded to the time just before the cessation of fruit growth. These results suggested that the optimum harvesting period for more hesperidin content was the stage just after de-greening and just before fruit growth cessation.

Impact of Transplant Timing of Mother Plants for Seedling Strawberries on Growth and Development of Daughter Plants and Initial Field Stage (딸기 육묘를 위한 모주의 정식시기가 자묘 소질 및 본포 초기생육에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we examined the impact of transplant timing of mother plants for seedling strawberry on growth and development of daughter plants and field stage. The leaf growth of treated mother plants and crown thickness were low when transplant was performed on April $10^{th}$. Based on the results collected until July $13^{th}$, the numbers of daughter plants with more than two leaves were 20.6 and 19.5 for March $10^{th}$ and March $25^{th}$, and these values decreased by April $10^{th}$ and April $25^{th}$ showing values of 15.1 and 11.8, respectively. After seedling growth was complete, leaf area and fresh weight of the saplings were remarkably low beginning from the transplant on April $10^{th}$. Crown thickness of saplings was generally lower when transplant timing was late. After 45 days of transplant leaf length and width were noticeably lower than the transplant on April $10^{th}$ and $25^{th}$. First cluster was 100% for both the March $10^{th}$ and $25^{th}$ transplant, followed April 10th and $25^{th}$ with values of 66% and 43%. The results revealed that transplant on March $10^{th}$ and $25^{th}$ had a greater positive impact on the growth and development of the strawberry cultivar 'Seolhyang'. A supplementary study will have to be conducted to determine the relationship between the harvest period of the first cluster and the yield of marketable strawberries depending on the transplanting time of mother plants.

Battery-less Pork Freshness Monitoring Based on High-Efficiency RF Energy Harvesting

  • Food safety has emerged as a growing concern for human health in recent times. Consuming contaminated food may lead to serious health problems, and therefore, a system for monitoring food freshness that is both non-detrimental to the quality of food and highly accurate is required to ensure that only high-quality fresh food packages are provided to the customers. This paper proposes a method to monitor and detect food quality using a compact smart sensor tag. The smart tag is composed of three ultra-low-power sensors, which monitor four major indicators of food freshness: temperature, humidity, and the concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases. An RF energy scavenging circuit is integrated into the smart sensor tag to harvest energy from radio waves at a high frequency of 13.56 MHz to supply sufficient power to the tag. Experimental results show that the proposed energy harvester can efficiently obtain energy at a distance of approximately 40 cm from a 4 W reader. In addition, the proposed smart sensor tag can operate without any battery, thereby eliminating the requirement of frequent battery replacement and consequently decreasing the cost. Meanwhile, the freshness of preserved pork is continuously monitored under two conditions--room temperature and refrigerator temperature--both of which are the most common temperatures under which food is generally stored. The food-monitoring experiments are conducted over a period of one week using the proposed battery-less tag. Based on the experimental results, the food assessment is classified into four categories: fresh, normal, low, and spoiled.

An Analysis of Determinants for Korean Spray Rose Purchase in China (중국 지역에서의 한국산 스프레이 장미 구입 결정요인 분석)

  • In order to export Korean spray roses to the China, it is needed to analyse chinese preferences, rose attributes, and purchase intentions. The purpose of this study is to present the implications on the production and distribution of roses for export by analyzing the quality preference attributes and purchase intention of Korean rose for Chinese flower experts. A survey on the preference and purchase intention of Korean flower roses by Chinese flower experts was conducted through face - to - face interviews with flower show participants in China. Approximately 100 Chinese flower experts who participated in the Flower Show in 2016 received the questionnaire, and 86 survey results could be used for analysis. Survey data were analyzed using ordered probit and bivariate probit models. As a result of an analysis, it was found that Chinese flower experts were more likely to buy Korean roses than Chinese roses even if they consider flower color, leaf shape and size and color diversity. The probability of purchasing more than twice the price was higher than that of the color diversity considering the flower shape, leaf shape and size, but the bivariate order probit model was larger than that of flowers, leaves and size, and the order of probability size was changed. In order to increase the export of Korean spray roses to the Chinese market, We need to increase Chinese experts' preferences and satisfaction. For this purpose, it is very important to develop export varieties of roses with large flower buds and shape / coloring, and to apply the useful post-harvest technology that can extend freshness and distribution period of export roses.

Evaluation of Metaldehyde Residues on Chinese Cabbage (배추중(中) Metaldehyde의 잔류량평가)

  • Metaldehyde Granule (6%) was sprayed 7, 15 and 30 days before harvest at the level of 0.3kg AI/l0a to evaluate metaldehyde residues on the inner and outer part of chinese cabbage. Roots of chinese cabbage were also analyzed. Results were as follows : 1. The amount of free acetaldehyde in chinese cabbage was 0.02-0.18ppm. 2. It was shown that metaldehyde residues in the leaf and root of chinese cabbage increased as the number of treatment increased and treatment period decreased. 3. The metaldehyde residue range in the leaf was in the range of 0.11-1.4ppm 4. The difference of metaldehyde residue on the inner and outer part of chinese cabbage was in the range of 0.01-0.6ppm and the residue on inner parts was slightly higher than outer part. 5. The metaldehyde residue in the root was in the range of 0.04-0.63ppm.

Ergonomic risk factors related to musculoskeletal symptoms in the vineyard workers (포도재배 농업인의 근골격계 증상 관련 인간공학적 위험요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the basic materials of a developmental counterplan by assessing prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms and characteristics of work-related ergonomic risk factors. The prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms of 64 vineyard workers was investigated by using a self-reported questionnaire. And the vineyard workers' tasks were also collected and analyzed during 9-month period by observing and videotaping methods to identify the ergonomic risk factors. The prevalence rate of musculoskeletal symptoms of female(84.4%) was much higher than that of male(62.5%) and a total prevalence rate was 73.4%. There was no different prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms between age over 60 years and under 60 years. The prevalence rates of musculoskeletal complaints for each body part were 48.4%, 42.2%, and 35.9% for the wrist, legs/knee, and shoulder, respectively. In postural risk analysis, 7 works(REBA score) represented the high risk tasks such as delivering harvest boxed(12), picking cluster(11) and so on. The main works(exposure score) were orderly ranked as picking cluster(1590), pruning branch(388), and cluster thinning(327). The risk factors of vineyard work were identified as follows: shoulder flexion(${\geq}45^{\circ}$), wrist Flex./Ext.(${\geq}15^{\circ}$), hand force(power/pinch-grip), and prolonged standing(${\geq}4hr$). The engineering solutions including an improvement of hand tools, working process, and working environment should be applied to the high risky tasks in order to resolve the ergonomic problems. The administrative solutions such as improving a distribution of resting time, an exercise cure, an early recognition of symptoms and rehabilitation might be another solution for reducing musculoskeletal symptoms in vineyard workers.

Relationship between some Phenological Parameters and Somatic Embryogenesis in Theobroma cacao L.

  • The relationship between three phenological parameters and somatic embryogenesis was investigated during a two-year period. Staminodes and petals from six hybrids and two clones as controls were sowed on three distinct primary callus growth media. Flowering level, fructification level, and leaf thrusts rhythm as phenological parameters were measured simultaneously during the weekly harvest of flower buds. Mean and coefficient of variation of the measured parameters highlighted stable phenological phases. The relationship between phenological parameters and somatic embryogenesis was investigated first by comparing the variation of somatic embryogenesis and that of the phenological parameters, and second by using Pearson's linear correlation. Except for the fructification level in both control clones the first year, the other parameters recorded stable phenological phases, regardless of the genotype and year. Favorable and unfavorable phases for the somatic embryogenesis were identified. In hybrids, favorable phases included February, August, September, and October. In both control clones, time interval propitious to embryogenesis stretched from February to December. The significance of the coefficient of correlation seemed to establish a relationship between somatic embryogenesis and phenology. However, a causal link could not be established. Leaf thrusts rhythm was revealed to be the phenological parameter most linked to somatic embryogenesis. Attempts to optimize embryogenesis during unfavorable phases, showed that a correction of 2.4 D/TDZ concentration is not the solution.

  • This experiment was carried out to increase the utility and productivity of forage crop as to investigate the rotation system which is suitable to cultivat at the alpine area. The treatments were 9 crops combinations including corn - rye treatment. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Rye can be cultivated satisfactorily at cold and high altitude areas such as Tae Kwan Ryong. 2. Corn, to be raised as a second crop after rye in the same year, does not have to be early (short) or medium maturity varieties in the high alpine area. 3. It is possible to increase the harvest by 30% in terms of dry melter or green crop yield through raising two crops, rye and corn, in the same year. 4. Maturity period or growth conditions of corn. as a tropical crop and the best forage crop, can improve or worsen acording to the external circumstance, such as low temperature resulting from high atitude.

Theoretical Design for the Production of Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) in a Closed Plant Factory

  • Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is a grain crop with high nutritional value. The leaves and sprouts of quinoa can also be consumed either raw or cooked, providing considerably nutritional value as well as high antioxidant and anticancer activities. This study was carried out to obtain basic data to assist in the practical design of a plant factory with artificial lighting for the cultivation of quinoa as a leafy vegetable. We estimated the energy content of the quinoa and the electrical energy required to produce this crop. The yield was 1,000 plants per day, with a planting density and light intensity of $0.015m^2$ ($15{\times}10cm$) and $200{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, respectively. The total number of plants, cultivation area, and electricity consumption were estimated to be 25,000, $375m^2$, and $93,750{\mu}mol{\cdot}s^{-1}$, respectively. White fluorescent lamps were used at a power of 20.4 kW from 1,857 fluorescent lamps (FL, 55 W), and the cost for electricity was approximately 1,820 dollars (exchange rate of $1 = 1,200 won) per month. For a daily harvest of 1,000 plants per day in a closed plant factory, the estimated light installation cost, total installation cost, and total production cost would be 15,473, 46,421, and 55,704 dollars, respectively. The calculated production cost per plant, including labor costs, would be 27 cents for the 25-day cultivation period, with a marketable ratio of 80%. Considering the annual total expenses, income, and depreciation costs, the selling price per plant was estimated to be approximately 56 cents.
