  • This paper aims to explore what we can improve in the curriculum, teaching-learning, and evaluation on the bases of the analyses of multiple-choice items set in National Assessment of Educational Achievement. For this goal, by using the distribution curves of the responses percentages, we will grasp the features of educational achievement which appear to students through an in-depth analysis about not only item itself but also the contents included in particular distracters. These analyses provide more information than the descriptive statistical values such as the mean of correct answer percentage and the discrimination of whole group and the mean of responses percentages of replies of subgroups. Because the distribution curves of the responses percentages reveal the transition from the lowest to the highest educational achievement very well. From these analyses we acquire the implications about the concept of prime factor or prime factorization, ratio(proportion) such as velocity, linear function, volume of cone, properties of solid figure, and probabilities of empty event and total event.

  • Despite the significance of teacher guidebooks as a support for teacher learning, there are few studies that address the educative features of teacher guidebooks. The purpose of this study is to develop a framework for analyzing the educative features of teacher guidebooks for elementary school mathematics. The framework developed by Fuentes and Ma(2018) for analyzing teacher guidebooks, "Teacher Learning Opportunities in Mathematics Curriculum Materials", was used as an initial framework by adding the unit development flow that reflects on the organizational features of teacher guidebooks in Korea for elementary mathematics. Then, the framework was modified and supplemented by testing 10 types of teacher guidebooks for Grades 3 and 4 per six units reflecting on different mathematical strands. As a result, the final framework expanded the initial framework and added elements related to each dimension of the framework according to the unit development flow. The analytical framework developed in this study can be used to closely analyze the educative features of teacher guidebooks of Korean elementary school mathematics in the future and to develop teacher guidebooks to promote teacher learning.

  • In this paper, we consider curriculum mining as an application of process mining in the domain of education. The basic objective of the curriculum mining is to construct a registration pattern model by using logs of registration data. However, subject registration patterns of students are very unstructured and complicated, called a spaghetti model, because it has a lot of different cases and high diversity of behaviors. In general, it is typically difficult to develop and analyze registration patterns. In the literature, there was an effort to handle this issue by using clustering based on the features of students and behaviors. However, it is not easy to obtain them in general since they are private and qualitative. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new framework of curriculum mining applying K-means clustering based on subject attributes to solve the problems caused by unstructured process model obtained. Specifically, we divide subject's attribute data into two parts : categorical and numerical data. Categorical attribute has subject name, class classification, and research field, while numerical attribute has ABEEK goal and semester information. In case of categorical attribute, we suggest a method to quantify them by using binarization. The number of clusters used for K-means clustering, we applied Elbow method using R-squared value representing the variance ratio that can be explained by the number of clusters. The performance of the suggested method was verified by using a log of student registration data from an 'A university' in terms of the simplicity and fitness, which are the typical performance measure of obtained process model in process mining.

  • The revised informatics is to be compulsory for middle school students from 2018 according to 2015 revised curriculum. The concept of abstraction in informatics curriculum has common features and differences compared with general abstraction, however there is a mix of concepts in the current informatics textbook. The abstraction of computational thinking needs to connect with automation, so it is difficult to teach correct concept of abstraction with these textbooks. Therefore, this research conducted to investigate several informatics textbooks that were developed by the revised curriculum and to analyze the concept and examples of abstraction. As a result, some textbooks have that there is a mix of concepts about general abstraction and no connection with automation. This research suggests clarified abstraction and educational examples for cultivating computational thinking to improve this situation. This result will be basic recourse for the reconstruction of abstraction lesson to improving computational thinking.

  • In medicine, rapid changes in information, technology, socio-economic interests, and globalization affect the medical education focused on the competencies of doctors, and the number of medical schools that are adopting an outcome-based curriculum (OBC) is increasing worldwide. This paper introduces the OBC model of 5 trailblazing medical schools from the UK, US, and Australia, comparing their unique features, followed by brief comment about Canada and the EU as well. On developing an OBC, the process of establishing the top outcomes for graduates is similar and the outcomes comprise knowledge, skills, and attitudes about science, patients, colleagues, society, and themselves. Implementing the outcomes down into the sub-levels of the curriculum is much more complicated and time-consuming. Assessing the achievement of every outcome is essential and requires the use of many tools in addition to the traditional written examination. From the perspective of adult learning theory, self-directed learning, team-learning, and individual and flexible achievement are tested and executed in an OBC. The gradual expansion and further innovation of an OBC is expected so that tomorrow's doctors will be able to meet the challenges of the future.

  • The textbook is a predominant feature of most classrooms. Because the textbook is an important aspect of educational experience, it is essential that the content of the texts be carefully scrutinized. The purpose of this study was to examine the visual portrayal of gender groups in elementary $"Chay{\tilde{o}}n"$ textbooks developed by the 6th National Science Curriculum. An instrument was developed to analyze the nature and type of activity engaged in by these groups as well as how often members of these groups were portrayed. Data were collected from 8 elementary $"Chay{\tilde{o}}n"$ textbooks. The results show the following two different features. While the elementary $"Chay{\tilde{o}}n"$ textbooks do not show gender-biases in representing science learning activities such as observing, experimenting, measuring, they show distinct gender-stereotyped roles and activities. It is expected that the results of this study are considered in developing the new elementary "Science" textbooks which show gender-fairness.
