Operational Effectiveness of Roundabout by the Change of Pedestrian Traffic Volume (보행교통량 변화에 따른 회전교차로의 운영효과)

  • This study deals with the operational effectiveness of roundabout. The roundabout is currently under consideration in our country depending on the result of existing researches, that the roundabout decreases delay and is environmentally friendly compared to the signalized intersection. The purpose of the study is to analyze the operational effectiveness of the roundabout by the change of pedestrian traffic volume. In pursing the above, this study gave particular emphasis to designing a network of roundabout, developing some scenarios for analysis including both entering traffic volume and pedestrians volume, and comparatively analyzing the average controlled delay time per vehicle. In this study, VISSIM model was used as a tool for traffic simulation. The main results are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing a traffic delay based on the pedestrian traffic volume, pedestrian traffic volume was analyzed to have a great impact on the roundabout operation. Second, the more pedestrian traffic volume were evaluated to indicate the more traffic delay. When the entering volumes with 1,000persons/hour (pedestrian volume) were more than 800pcph in the single-lane and 1,600pcph in the double-lane roundabout, the operational efficiencies of signalized intersections were evaluated to be better than those of roundabouts.

An Algorithm for Identifying the Change of the Current Traffic Congestion Using Historical Traffic Congestion Patterns (과거 교통정체 패턴을 이용한 현재의 교통정체 변화 판별 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for the identification of relieving or worsening current traffic congestion using historic traffic congestion patterns. Historical congestion patterns were placed in an adjacency list. The patterns were constructed to represent spatial and temporal length for status of a congested road. Then, we found information about historical traffic congestions that were similar to today's traffic congestion and will use that information to show how to change traffic congestion in the future. The most similar pattern to current traffic status among the historical patterns corresponded to starting section of current traffic congestion. One of our experiment results had average error when we compared identified changes of the congestion for one of the sections in the congestion road by using our proposal and real traffic status. The average error was 15 minutes. Another result was for the long congestion road consisting of several sections. The average error for this result was within 10 minutes.

The Influence of Traffic Information based on VMS(Variable Message Sign) on the Selection of Drivers' Route (VMS(Variable Message Sign)를 통한 교통정보 제공이 운전자의 운행경로 전환에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • The provision of traffic information plays an important role in increasing social benefit not only by saving travel time for individuals but also by improving the efficiency of road operation. VMS(Variable Message Sign) helps on-wheel drivers easily understand the road situation, and also provides real-time traffic information to people on the streets. However, it has not been sufficiently studied on how traffic information based on VMS influences on the drivers' selection of route. This study investigated how drivers use VMS traffic information and how they are satisfied with it. Then, the model of drivers' route selection was specified with the types of traffic information and the expected travel time to examine the influence on the selection of drivers' route. The model was estimated and analyzed in three types according to the condition of detour roads, and the rate of route change and the degree of sensitivity was calculated from the estimation. The results of analysis are as follows. the $1^{st}$ type model showed the 10% of route change for the travel time saving of 5minutes, and the 81.6% of route change for the travel time saving of 20minutes. The $2^{nd}$ type led to the range of route change from 14.2% to 92.7% over the 5 through 20 minutes of travel time saving. The $3^{rd}$ model resulted in the 99.1% of route change. The sensitivity of route change showed the highest for the travel time saving of 11 minutes with the $1^{st}$ type model, 9 minutes with the $2^{nd}$ type model, and 5 minutes with the $3^{rd}$ type model respectively.

  • The propose of this study is to analysis driver's behavior of traveler information. This research made an attempt to explore driver's route change behavior in the en-route stage. Model were developed for each analysis with LIMDEP software which was developed by Willams H Greene. Commuters' transportation change in before trip stage are affected by their income, travel time, and incident information and constant of this model showed their reluctance of change mode. This was resulted from the inappropriateness of traffic information to general commuters which is the main target of traffic information.

A Study on Correlativity of the Regional Structure Change and Traffic Demand in Pusan (부산시 지역구조변화와 교통수요의 상관성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the regional structure of Pusan based on socio-economic phenomena in 1979 and 1991, and to analyze correlations between the regional structure change and traffic demend. To formalize the land-use by each zone, the Principal Component Analysis were performed by using 15 socio-sconomic variables. As a result of the analysis, five land-use factors(i.e., official, residential, commercial, manufactural, and other functions) in 1979 and four factors(i. e., residential, 3rd industrial, manufactural, and other functions) in 1991 were extracted as main regional structure components. It was proved that there is strong correlations between the regional structure change and traffic demand by using Quantification Theory II and also by testing correlation coefficient.

  • Due to continuous change in traffic and increase in traffic volumes at the intersection, efficient traffic control system is required to manage road situations flexibly in accordance with the change occurring every hour. In this paper, we study the control systems which will help us to determine the interva ls of intersection following the autonomous analysis of complexity of the road. Fuzzy logic control concept was applied to the fuzzy logic controller(FLC) for controlling traffic signal. Furthermore the fuzzy signal systems were compare with the regular signal systems to prove higher performance of the FLC presente d in the paper. By means of simulation, the validity of FLC was proven. About 6% increase in the efficiency of traffic control based on the proposed algorithm in this paper was when we use the simulation.

  • We propose a method for detecting DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) traffic in real-time inside the backbone network. For this purpose, we borrow the concepts of MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) and RoC (Rate of Change), which are used for technical analysis in the stock market Due to the fact that the method is based on a quantitative, rather than a heuristic, detection level, DDoS traffic can be detected with greater accuracy (by reducing the false alarm ratio). Through simulation results, we show how the detection level is determined and demonstrate how much the accuracy of detection is enhanced.

On-line Fussy Performance Management of Profibus Networks

  • Most networks for automation are tuned to an expected traffic condition ar their design stage. During their actual operations, however, the networks experience considerable changes in traffic from time to time. These traffic changes caused by common events like machine failure and production schedule change may adversely affect th network performance and, in turn , the performance of the connected devices. This paper presents experimental results for performance management of a Profibus-FMS network. The performance management aims to maintain a uniform level of network performance at all stations under changing network traffic. The performance management algorithm monitors the performance of individual network stations and commands the stations to change their timer values in order to have comparable performance at all stations. In order to determine the amount of timer change, the algorithm employs a set of fuzzy rules. The algorithm has been evaluated on a Profibus network.

  • High-speed services and bulk transmission were available by the development of the network and communication technologies. Moreover various next-generation converged services are undergoing a change by various services. This paper presents improved real-time simulated traffic generation and verification schemes based on the actual traffic pattern analysis. For this, we analyzed traffic patterns of actual application system and generated simulated traffics. We also suggested scheme that verify similarity of simulated traffic and actual traffic.

Evaluation on Noise Characteristics by Field Application of Improved Rumble Strip (개선된 럼블스트립의 현장적용에 따른 사후 소음특성 평가)

  • PURPOSES : This research investigates traffic noise characteristics as change the transverse rumble strips shape from rectangular to cylinder at toll plaza of highway. METHODS : The traffic noise was investigated at two different places at toll plaza of highway. One is modified grooving, another is employed cylinder shape of TRS instead of rectangular shape of TRS. A measurement of traffic noise was conducted at same location and time period. The traffic volume information was gotten from office of highway office and vehicle speed was measured by speed measuring device. The traffic noise measurement was conducted from 13:00 to 23:00 and by pass-by method. Also, the traffic noise was measured behind noise barrier. Various distance from noise barrier(7.5m, 30m, 50m) and different heights(1.2m, 3m, and 5m) were parameter for measurement of traffic noise in this study. RESULTS : The class 1 vehicle was contributed from traffic volume which was increased 1,500. However, the distribution of traffic speed didn't change compare to previous investigated period. From this study, It was found that the external traffic noise was changed as function of geometric shape of TRS. The external noise from modified grooving was less than 1.2dB(A) of the current TRS. A difference of traffic noise was 20dB(A) before and after barrier. It came from a noise barrier effect as reduction of traffic noise. According to investigate a traffic noise distribution near barrier, there is similar noise characteristic as function of height at 7.5m distance from noise barrier. Also, There is no different traffic noise between 30m and 50m from source of the noise of sound barrier. CONCLUSIONS : Based on this traffic noise investigation result, there is a clear characteristic difference as changed TRS shape. The traffic noise was reduced by changed TRS shape. Specially, traffic noise was decreased although the traffic volume was increase for same investigation time and period. It is implied that cylinder type of TRS significantly reduces the traffic noise. The specification of various TRS will be studied in the future.
