  • With the awareness that Sinyeongwol Sipgyeong(ten scenic spots in Yeongwol) were designed too hastily and only for PR purposes after the change in the tourism environment, this paper indicates that most tourism and culture sources in Yeongwol are related to King Danjong, the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. This study proposes a 'Storytelling Plan' for the landscape content called 'Cultural Landscapes - Yeongwol Palgyeong(eight scenic spots in Yeongwol)' after reviewing types and content of Yeongwol Palgyeong through the halo effect of the well-known sad history of King Danjong and the cultural value of Yeongwol. The significance of the unity of the historic site and neighboring landscape is focused on by investigating the anaphoric relations between cultural landscape texts('Yeongwol Palgyeong') and historic content(the sad history of King Danjong). For this, the cultural lnddscape of Yeongwol has been framed and layered to make spatial texts. To emphasize the 'Telling' as well as the 'Story,' interesting episodes have been reviewed to discover a motive. To diversify the 'Telling' methods, absorptive landscape factors have been classified as 'Place,' 'Object' and 'Visual Point.' In addition the storytelling of Yeongwol Palgyeong was examined in consideration of the story and background of 'Yeongwol Palgyeong - Sad Story of King Danjong' and the interaction of a variety of cultural content by suggesting micro-content such as infotainment and edutainment as absorptive landscape factors. In order to make the storytelling plan available in practice as an alternative plan for Yeongwol Tourism, a visual point should be properly set to make the landscape look sufficiently dynamic. In addition, real landscape routes and narration scenarios should be prepared as well. Professional landscape interpreters who are well informed of the natural features of Yeongwol and the history of King Danjong should be brought into the project, and Internet and digital technology-based strategies should be developed.

  • This study intends to present the directions for effective up-cycling design using Marquage painting through analysis of trends and the formative characteristics of fashion products. Research was conducted through a literature review (published papers, books and web site contents). Cases were analyzed by examining the contents of web sites of global luxury brands, representative workshops, and social network sites (SNS). The results of the study are categorized as follows, First, Marquage paintings are continuously used by global luxury brands and have developed as an expression of self-ownership and the personalization of one's identity. Second, fashion brands use Marquage painting as a customized service for sales. On the other hand, Marquage paintings are used as a kind of up-cycling to present old goods as brand new ones. Third, the patterns used in Marquage painting were classified into five types: geometric patterns, logo patterns, character patterns, lettering patterns, and art patterns. Moreover, formalization by Marquage patterns is represented by identification, customization, and up-cycling. Finally, to up-cycle the expressive features of Marquage- sustainability, scarcity, storytelling, and originality based on factors of up-cycling need to be reflected.

  • In this paper, the creation method of edutainment content among cultural content types was studied. Edutainment aimed to enhance the creative thinking power through the "TRIZ theory" as an element of fun and education for learners at the same time. In this study, the modified OSTM-TRIZ theory was used not only in the technical field but also in the general sector. I proposed a model in which creative thinking can be enhanced to solve problems by analyzing contradictions encountered in the process of presenting problems. Nonlinear digital storytelling in animated folktales can elicit sufficient curiosity from learners, and problem presentation, problem resolution and contradiction analysis using OTSM-TRIZ work as an educational system to develop learners' creativity.

  • Communication through smartphones is creating a new paradigm of mobile communication beyond the restrictions of mobility and space. The mobile instant messengers of the smartphone, which began on the desktop environment, are providing various communication features, including multimedia contents, texts, and voice. Kindergartens and nurseries are using Websites, phones, SMS, printed materials, handwritten notifications, etc. to communicate with the parents. IsPlus was developed to facilitate the communication between the parents and the teachers, including exchanges of pictures and videos, chatting, and attendance management using smartphones. This is meaningful in that it is an early smartphone mobile messenger for educational institutions for infants and preschoolers. This study presented a new approach to the development of a mobile messenger for a specific group of users by analyzing the user environment, communication types, application planning process and interface design development using storytelling.

  • This research investigates how digital design agencies and client companies incorporate design thinking-a human-centered approach to solving difficult problems-into their website development processes. Based on a literature review on the design-thinking-driven web development process, multiple case studies of award-winning website projects were performed by in-depth interviews with key practitioners. Through analyses of these cases, their user-centered approaches for website innovation were identified according to the following four phases: web planning (discovery and defining phases) and web design and development (development and delivery phases). Moreover, distinct approaches of design thinking practices were identified according to two website types: a brand promotion website with a killer brand storytelling approach; and a service channel website with a strategic UI/UX-driven approach. Next, the key success drivers of these website projects were suggested in light of the typical themes of design thinking (i.e., human centeredness, research based, context awareness, and collaboration). Some practical limitations were also found in adopting the design-thinking-driven web development process, such as limited research methods and tools, and insufficient prototyping and experimentation. Along with these limitations, it was also discovered that current digital design agencies still face the following challenges in adopting the design-thinking-driven web development process: building a long-term, playful partnership with clients; leveraging decision-makers' design thinking awareness; and coping with limited resources (design thinking practitioners, budgets, and schedules).

  • This study empirically compared generational differences in responses between baby boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y groups as measured by key variables related to advertisement. The respondents in this study were consumers throughout Korea, with 914 survey questionnaires used for the final analyses. Eight of the original 10 hypotheses were validated and two were rejected. Both baby boomer consumers and Generation Y consumers showed more positive responses to affective advertisements than their Generation X counterparts. Generation Y consumers showed more positive attitudes towards humorous advertisements than their baby boomer and Generation X counterparts. The effect of advertising models on the evaluation of advertisements was greater among Generation Y consumers than their Generation X counterparts. Generation Y consumers showed more positive attitudes towards storytelling-type marketing than their baby boomer and Generation X counterparts. Baby boomer consumers showed more positive attitudes towards symbolic advertisements than their Generation X and Generation Y counterparts. Generation X consumers showed more positive attitudes towards functional advertisements than the baby boomer and Generation Y groups. There were significant differences in attitudes towards two types (symbolic and functional) of advertisements in both baby boomer consumers and Generation X consumers.

  • Endeavors have been made for the last decades to make resources of local myths and legendary tales among local culture contents. Jeju as well has made efforts to develop diverse legendary tales as content products. However, there has yet to yield any visible outcome in any region, and they still remain as mascots only for festivals and/or local events. This is because there is a lack of culture content development infrastructure, and that there is absence of strategic approach to regional culture content development plans. Based on these problems, this study establishes development strategies for legendary tale resources focusing on Chasabonpuri, one of Jeju legendary tales, and explores as what types of popular culture contents it can be developed.
