  • This paper presents design procedures of a transverse flux linear motor (TFLM). The minimum and maximum flux linkage was determined by the simplified equivalent magnetic circuit and estimated average magnetic flux density at the air gap region by considering the shape of applied magnetomotive force (MMF). With this information, the number of turns of each phase winding was calculated based on the amplitude of applied voltage and speed of a mover. The rated current, coil diameter, and winding area were obtained with the aid of an empirical formula for determining the required MMF. The usefulness of the proposed design method for TFLM is verified by the three-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method and the experimental results of prototyped machine.

  • In this paper, we propose a new type of tubular linear induction motor(TLIM) with two-dimensional motion. The proposed motor consists of four short primary LIMs arranged on a same circumference and a common secondary. By adopting independently energized ring-windings to the primary, we can expect the reduction of coil-end region and the freedom of alternating current supply. The secondary conductor is capable of producing anyone of rotary, linear, and helical motions by controlling the phase of supply currents in each primary winding. From the 3-D finite element analysis and the experiment, we derive the feeding conditions to increase the subsidiary rotary-force and an optimal arrangement of primary currents to reduce the number of slot.

  • The SRM is a simple and robust machine which is finding applications over a wide power and speed range. To properly evaluate the motor performance, a reliable model design is required. This paper explains the various excitation mode and winding configuration to analyze the torque performance of SRM. A number of different idealized current excitation patterns are introduced, using unipolar, bipolar & square excitation, and the output torques produced by the various winding configurations are compared. The electromagnetic torque of the SRM was calculated from the rate of change of co-energy with respect to angular displacement. The simulation result shows that 3-phase square excitation mode models have revealed higher torque performance.

  • This paper presents a new winding method in the electronic descaling(ED) technology. The ED technology Produces an oscillating electric field via the Faraday's law to Provide necessary molecular agitation to dissolved mineral ions. But present method gives another agitation force to mineral ions, which is Lorentz's force. Experiments were peformed at various Renolds number. A series of tests was conducted, measuring pressure drop across test section and the overall heat transfer coefficient as a function of time. In order to accelerate the rate of fouling, artificial hard water of 1000ppm $CaCO_3$ was used throughout the tests. The results show that the new method accelerates collision of mineral ions and improvs efficiency of system.

  • Heat cycle aging of insulating materials in large generator stator winding has been investigated using both on-line and off-line test methods. On this study, principally, off-line test against actual generator in service was carried out to acquire information about polarization index(PI) and dissipation factor, dissipation factor tip-up, maximum partial discharge for the purpose of remnant breakdown voltage and life assessment. It was found from the tests that both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge decreased with the increase of operating hours and starting numbers. It was found from off-line tests that the remnant breakdown voltage had a strong relationship with both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge the remnant breakdown voltage as a results of both operating hours and starting number and the nondestructive tests were proposed as parameters which can predict the remnant lifetime of insulating materials in large generator stator windings. • This paper presents the application of response surface methodology (RSM) to design optimization for two types of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs); one has 12 slots with distributed winding, and the other has 6 slots with concentrated winding, to improve the ratio between torque ripple and average torque. The usefulness of RSM in optimization problem of SynRM is verified as compared with the results of finite element analysis. In the end, the optimized two SynRMs are compared with SynRM currently used in air-conditioning compressor in connection with torque performance and loss.

  • Recently, many researches on a diagnosis of stator winding insulation of large generators are reported. They mostly utilize a trend analysis of Partial Discharge (PD). In this paper, a novel on-line monitoring system for an insulation diagnosis is proposed. This system obtains the parameters such as Maximum Partial Discharge Magnitude (QM), Normalized Quantity Number (NQN) and Dynamic Stagnation Voltage (DSV) by continuous on-line monitoring of winding insulation. It is capable of diagnosing the insulation condition by analyzing the trend of PD and utilizing the database built by the system.

  • This paper deals with the optimum rotor design solution on torque ripple reduction for a SynRM with concentrated winding using response surface methodology (RSM). The RSM has been achieved to use the experimental design method in combination with finite element method (FEM)and well adapted to make analytical model for a complex problem considering a lot of interaction of design variables. Comparisons are given with characteristics of a SynRM according to flux barrier number, flux barrier width variation, respectively.

In converter system, magnetic components are important devices used for energy storage, energy transfer, galvanic isolation and filtering. The proposed Half-Bridge converter is to reduce the number of magnetic components. The secondary rectification was discussed by comparison of center-tap type with primary center-core transformer winding and primary side-core transformer winding. A prototype featuring 400V input, 10V output, 400kHz switching frequency, and 100W output power.
