  • The present research deals with the multi-dual-phase-lags thermoelasticity theory for thermoelastic behavior of transversely isotropic thermoelastic thin circular plate The Laplace and Hankel transform techniques have been used to find the solution of the problem. The displacement components, stress components, and conductive temperature distribution are computed in the transformed domain with the radial distance and further determined in the physical domain using numerical inversion techniques. The effect of rotation and two temperature are depicted graphically on the resulting quantities.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze that intake port swirl and fuel injection system have an effect on the engine performance in a turbocharged D.I. diesel engine of the displacement 9.4L. As result of steady flow test, when the valve eccentricity ratio moved to cylinder wall, the flow coefficient and swirl intensity is increased. And as the swirl is increased, the mean flow coefficient is decreased, whereas the Gulf factor is increased. Through this engine test, it can be expected to meet performance and emissions by the following applied parameters; the swirl ratio is 2.43, injection timing is BTDC 13oCA and compression is 15.5.

  • Reduced beam section (RBS) moment resisting connections are among the most economical and practical rigid steel connections developed in the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge and the 1995 Kobe earthquakes. Although the performance of RBS connection has been widely studied, this connection has not been subject to in the skewed conditions. In this study, the seismic performance of dogbone connection was investigated at different angles. The Commercial ABAQUS software was used to simulate the samples. The numerical results are first compared with experimental results to verify the accuracy. Nonlinear static analysis with von Mises yield criterion materials and the finite elements method were used to analyze the behavior of the samples The selected Hardening Strain of materials at cyclic loading and monotonic loading were kinematics and isotropic respectively The results show that in addition to reverse twisting of columns, change in beam angle relative to the central axis of the column has little impact on hysteresis response of samples. Any increase in the angle, leads to increased non-elastic resistance. As for Weak panel zone, with increase of the angle between the beam and the column, the initial submission will take place at a later time and at a larger rotation angle in the panel zone and this represents reduced amount of perpendicular force exerted on the column flange. In balanced and strong panel zones, with increase in the angle between the beam and the central axis of the column, the reduced beam section (RBS), reaches the failure limit faster and at a lower rotation angle. In connection of skewed beam, balanced panel zone, due to its good performance in disposition of plasticity process away from connection points and high energy absorption, is the best choice for panel zone. The ratio of maximum moment developed on the column was found to be within 0.84 to 1 plastic anchor point, which shows prevention of brittle fracture in connections.

  • In the present paper, the fiber theory has been employed to model the reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams (DBs) considering the reinforcing steel bar-concrete interaction. To simulate numerically the behavior of materials, the uniaxial materials' constitutive laws have been employed for reinforcements and concrete and the bond stress-slip between the reinforcing steel bars and surrounding concrete are taken into account. Because of the high sensitivity of DBs to shear deformations, the Timoshenko beam theory has been applied. The shear stress-strain (S-SS) relationship has been defined by the modified compression field theory (MCFT) model. By modeling about 300 RC panels and employing a produced numerical database, a study has been carried out to show the sensitivity of the MCFT model. This is performed based on the multiple linear regression (MLR) models. The results of this research also illustrate how different parameters such as characteristic compressive strength of concrete, yield strength of reinforcements and the percentages of reinforcements in different directions get involved in the shear behavior of RC panels without applying complex theories. Based on the results obtained from the analysis of the MCFT S-SS model, a relatively simplified numerical S-SS model has been proposed. Application of the proposed S-SS model in modeling and analyzing the considered samples indicates that there is a good agreement between the simulated and the experimental test results. The comparison between the proposed S-SS model and the MCFT model indicates that in addition to the advantage of better accuracy, the main advantage of the proposed method is simplicity in application.

  • In this paper, the dynamic behaviour of an inclined functionally graded material (FGM) beam with different boundary conditions under a moving mass is investigated based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The material properties vary continuously along the beam thickness based on the power-law distribution. The system of motion equations is derived by using Hamilton's principle. The finite element method (FEM) is adopted to develop a general solution procedure. The moving mass is considered on the top surface of the beam instead of supposing it on the mid-plane. In order to consider the Coriolis, centrifugal accelerations and the friction force, the contact force method is used. Moreover, the effects of boundary conditions, the moving mass velocity and various material distributions are studied. For verification of the present results, a comparative fundamental frequency analysis of an FGM beam is conducted and the dynamic transverse displacements of the homogeneous and FGM beams traversed by a moving mass are compared with those in the existing literature. There is a good accord in all compared cases. In this study for the first time in dynamic analysis of the inclined FGM beams, the Coriolis and centrifugal accelerations of the moving mass are taken into account, and it is observed that these accelerations can be ignored for the low-speeds of the moving mass. The new provided results for dynamics of the inclined FGM beams traversed by a moving mass can be significant for the scientific and engineering community in the area of FGM structures.

  • The purpose of this study aims to explore scope of damages resulted from early redelivery under time charter with the Golden Victory case. In this case, disputes arose in relation to the quantum of damages recoverable by th owners. The owners contended that the second Gulf War was irrelevant to their claim, which was to be assessed at the difference between the charter rate and the lower market rate for the whole of the remaining four-year period of the charterparty. The charterers contended that since clause 33 would have entitled them to cancel the charter on the outbreak of the second Gulf War, two years after the repudiation, the owners' claim for damages only ran for those two years. There was no such rule as was contended for by the owners, and that the damages had to reflect the fact that, had there been no repudiatory breach, the charterparty would not have run its full term because the charterers would have cancelled the charter on the outbreak of the second Gulf War.

  • The marine red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii is a major source of $\kappa$-carrageenan. It has been introduced in 20 countries including India. Recently, several reports have expressed concerns about Kappaphycus invasion on Acropora corals at Kurusadai Island in the Gulf of Mannar, India, which is part of a marine bioreserve. To understand the extent of the Kappaphycus invasion, 27 randomly selected locations around Kurusadai Island and the mainland coast were surveyed during May-August 2008 and July 2009. Our rigorous sampling revealed that K. alvarezii was confined to two different patches of 105 m $\times$ 55 m and 8 m $\times$ 9 m located at the southeastern part of Kurusadai Island. The actual extent of the K. alvarezii canopy coverage was 76.7 $m^2$, accounting for less than 0.0035% of the total coral reef area. The daily growth rate of the K. alvarezii at Kurusadai was 0.7%. K. alvarezii was not observed in the coral reef area of the adjoining Pullivasal and Poomarichan Islands or the Palk Bay area cultivation sites. The lack of functional reproductive cycle, low spore viability, and the absence of microscopic phases in the life cycle of this alga coupled with the abundance presence of herbivores may restrict the further spread of this alga, so its invasive potential at Kurusadai Island is considered remote.
