The Kinematical Analysis of Parallel Bars Double Piked Landing Motion (평행봉 double piked 내리기 동작의 운동학적 분석)

  • This study examined the double piked dismount among the landing techniques of parallel bars based on three-dimensional motion analysis. Four male national gymnasts were the subjects. This study was performed to provide quantitative data highlighting players strengths and weaknesses to enable more stable landing technique. The variables analyzed were the position and velocity of center of gravity(CG) and angles of shoulder joints, hip joints, and trunk. The results are as follows: S1 secured the height of flight with fast vertical rise. After the easy spin in the air, he conducted a stable landing maintaining a proper hip joints angle. S2, S3, and S4, however, began the backward somersault already before leaving the bars, so they moved backward greatly making it more difficult to achieve a higher flight path. As a result, they couldn't control the velocity of their backward movement at landing. For a stable landing, they have to maintain the negative shoulder angle when rising, minimize both antero-posterioror side-to-side movements by doing a strong tap using hip joints, to secure the height of flight before the somersault. Results also show that at the descent, they should conduct rapid spinning by increasing their shoulder and hip joints to the maximum while controlling their velocity.

Carbon and Cobalt Diffusion in Liquid Phase Sintering of WC-Co with Gradient Composition

  • In this study, the diffusion behaviors of C and Co in liquid phase sintering of WC-Co system were investigated whether these two components diffused in the same direction in case of having opposite gradient each other with not being $\eta$ phase. The green compacts with controlled compositions in not being of $\eta$ phase and gradient composition which one is WC-5Co-1.2%C, the other is WC-XCo-0.2%C (where X = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25) were sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$ and then the diffusion behaviors of C and Co were investigated by analyses of compositional change, also determined for microstructure and microhardness. Also, same testing was carried out on the specimens with dual layers sintered in upright and reverse positions to evaluate the effect of gravity on the diffusion in liquid Co. From the results of this study, we can find the fact that the direction of diffusion for C and Co in WC-Co system during liquid phase sintering was different and the effect of gravity for the liquid was insignificant. Also other physical properties were changed on the diffusion of elements.

Synthesis and Characterization of Carbon Dioxide Sorbent by using Polyethyleneimine Impregnated Fumed Silica Particles (폴리에틸렌이민이 함침된 흄드 실리카 입자를 이용한 이산화탄소 흡착 소재의 제조 및 특성)

  • This paper presents an easy way to prepare carbon dioxide sorbent by using commercially available fumed silica particles (AEROSIL). AEROSIL was impregnated with various concentration of polyethyleneimine (PEI) in methanol and $CO_2$ capture ability was analyzed by thermo gravity analysis (TGA). The $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of 50 wt% PEI-impregnated AEROSIL was 126.2 mg/g-sorbent at $75^{\circ}C$ and this capacity was substantially higher than that of the mesoporous silica such as HMS (101.0 mg/g-sorbent) and MSU-J (66.1 mg/g-sorbent).

On Changes of Postural Sway with Ageing (연령증가(年齡增加)에 따른 신체동요(身體動搖)의 변화(變化)에 대하여)

  • This research is aimed at examining age-related changes of postural sway when people stand upright, examining external effects which can be exerted upon the postural sway (experiment 1), and also analyzing specific changing characters of posture-control by sudden impacts (experiment 2). The total number of subjects was 115, who are in twenties through seventies and 75 of them were participated in experiment 2. In experimen 1, the subjects were examined for 25 seconds respectively while standing upright with both feet and with eyes opened, standing upright with both feet and with eyes closed, and standing upright with a single foot and with eyes opened. In experiment 2, only while standing upright with both feet and with eyes opened they were examined for 5 seconds. Main findings were as follows: 1. In the single-foot standing position, the growing older exerted more important effects upon the fluctuation length and area of the center of gravity than in the both-foot standing position. 2. The standard deviation was increasing with age in the fluctuation length and the fluctuation area of the center of gravity. 3. There were no significant differences in daily variation, temperature change, and muscle burdening. 4. The recuperation from the postural sway by external impacts was so slow with age. 5. There were little differences in decrease frequencies among the subjects but younger persons.

Classification of Epilepsy Using Distance-Based Feature Selection (거리 기반의 특징 선택을 이용한 간질 분류)

  • Feature selection is the technique to improve the classification performance by using a minimal set by removing features that are not related with each other and characterized by redundancy. This study proposed new feature selection using the distance between the center of gravity of the bounded sum of weighted fuzzy membership functions (BSWFMs) provided by the neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions (NEWFM) in order to improve the classification performance. The distance-based feature selection selects the minimum features by removing the worst features with the shortest distance between the center of gravity of BSWFMs from the 24 initial features one by one, and then 22 minimum features are selected with the highest performance result. The proposed methodology shows that sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy are 97.7%, 99.7%, and 98.7% with 22 minimum features, respectively.

  • In this study, a transient structural load analysis system was constructed to calculate the applied load on the suspension equipment corresponding to the aircraft flight conditions based on military specifications. Aircraft flight data (altitude, velocity, acceleration, angle of attack and etc. at aircraft center of gravity) were used as input parameters and the calculated load of the suspension equipment at wings on the left and right side was printed out for the structural load analysis. As a calculation procedure, first of all, load analysis was carried out at the center of gravity of the external store, Secondly, a trial reaction force analysis was conducted on hook and swaybrace of suspension equipment. All procedure of calculations was programed to analyze the structural load automatically. To verify the numerical results, structural load analysis using the experimental flight data was performed.

  • Mercurous bromide ($Hg_{2}0Br_{2}$) crystals hold promise for many acousto-optic and opto-electronic applications. This material is prepared in closed ampoules by the physical vapor transport (PVT) growth method. Due to the temperature gradient between the source and the growing crystal region, the buoyancy-driven convection may occur. The effects of thermal convection on the crystal growth rate was investigated in this study in a horizontal configuration for conditions ranging from typical laboratory conditions to conditions achievable only in a low gravity environment. The results showed that the growth rate increases linearly with Grashof number, and for 0.2 $\leq$ Ar (transport length-to-height, L/H)$\leq$1.0 sharply for Ar=5 and $\Delta$T=30 K. We have also shown that the magnitude of convection decreases with the Ar. For gravity levels of less than $10^{-2}$g the non-uniformity of interfacial distribution is negligible.

  • Module can be categorized as PAS(Pre-Assembled Steel structure), PAR(Pre-Assembled pipe Rack), PAU(Pre-Assembled Unit), VAU(Vendor Assembled Unit) and VPU(Vendor Package Unit). At the stage of design and fabrication of module, the condition of land and ocean transportation is considered and these conditions are reflected on the module division design. The control of the module's center of gravity is important to transport and install modules safely and the steel structure should have the strength enough to resist the sea acceleration force during the ocean transportation. The transportation condition and the installation method influence the size and weight of module. The size and weight of module are considered for the design of module division.

Treatment for ophthalmic paralysis: functional and aesthetic optimization

  • Facial nerve palsy has an effect on a person's well-being functionally and psychologically. Therefore, comprehensive patient management is essential. One of the most common uncomfortable and potentially debilitating features is associated with the incapacity for eye closure. Restoration of eye closure is a key consideration during the surgical management of facial palsy. In this article, we introduce simple surgical methods-which are relatively easy to learn and involve the upper and lower eyelids-for achieving eye closure. Correcting upper eyelid function involves facilitating the component of eye closure that is in the same direction as gravity and is, therefore, less complicated and favorable outcomes than correction of lower lid. Aesthetic aspects should be considered to correct the asymmetry caused by facial palsy. Lower eyelid function involves a force that opposes gravity for eye closure, which makes correction of lower eyelid ectropion more challenging than surgery for the upper eyelid, particularly in terms of effecting a sustained correction. Initially, proper ophthalmic evaluation is required, including identifying the chronicity and severity of ectropion. Also, it is important to determine whether or not lateral canthoplasty is necessary. The lateral tarsal strip procedure is commonly used for lower lid correction. However, effective lower lid correction can be achieved with better cosmesis when extensive supporting techniques are applied, including those involving cheek tissue.
