  • Educational institutions play a critical role in national development through the advancement of skilled human resources and intellectual society. The number of higher educational institutions (HEIs) is increasing significantly in Bangladesh. Students have a number of options from which to select their preferred educational institutions. Hence, HEIs should think about the quality of services they provide to students. The objective of this study is to measure students' satisfaction and university reputation through service quality (SQ) in a private higher educational institution (PriHEI) in Bangladesh. Primary data was collected from 270 students of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), Bangladesh, through a simple random sampling technique. In this study, data was analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation, measurement model using confirmatory factor analyses, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that transport services have indirect but medical and physical facilities have both direct and indirect significant effects on overall students' satisfaction. Further, the administrative services and research facilities have significant indirect effects on overall students' satisfaction. Finally, the results of structural equation modeling (SEM) confirm that the reputation of the university is directly associated with overall students' satisfaction.

  • Extant literature has emphasized the role of citizen participation in creating a successful smart city. However, previous works are lacking in a systematic analysis of the specific mechanisms by which citizen participation makes a positive impact on smart city projects. We attempt to bridge the gap by focusing on the role of the living lab, a citizen-driven mechanism that has used innovative ideas, new technologies, and cooperation with various participants to address local problems. As co-creation is the common ground for smart cities and living labs in terms of citizen participation, we provide a theoretical framework in which the notion of co-creation mediates smart cities and living labs. To examine the living lab's effect of co-creation on smart cities, we conduct a comparative case study of two Northeast Asian cities: Taipei and Busan. We explore (1) the factors behind the different outcomes in these two cities, despite many similarities that might affect smart cities' effectiveness, and (2) the relationship between smart cities and living labs and how to systematically understand the interaction between the two. We find that living labs have played a key role in making Taipei's smart city projects effective and successful, which allows the city to keep showing a high level of performance. In contrast, citizens could not find channels to participate in such projects in Busan. We conclude that the living lab explains why the smart cities in Busan have been less successful than in Taipei.

  • Recently market potentials of Asian cruise service have driven big western incumbents to make an strategic entry into Asian cruise market. However Korean cruise industry has been on the initiating stage focused on coastal cruise service. Under the circumstances, Korean firms which have intention to provide cruise service ought not to depend mainly on government's institutional supports such as expansion of social infrastructure and consolidation of related law, but to explore and utilize service-oriented factors for customer satisfaction as fundamentals for competitive strategies with some considerations. In this study, we expanded the perceived value literature by demonstrating the role of selected affective factors such as novelty and hedonics on value in the context of cruise service experiences. We also examined the role of customer satisfaction in the affect-value relationship. According to the results, it is analyzed that such determinants of perceived value in cruise-ferry service like novelty and hedonics have some positive influences on customer satisfaction of cruise service. In particular, hedonics is strongly linked to cruise vacationers' value perceptions and repurchase intentions. Overall satisfaction as a mediator accounted for the relationship between affective antecedents and perceived value. The managerial findings of this research are also briefly discussed.

  • This paper examines the life-cycle and birth cohort effect on East Asian supranational identity. This paper also explores how national identity is related with supranational identity among Koreans. Using the 2008 CCGA-EAI survey, we analyze the determinants of supranational East Asian identity. The results suggest several interesting findings. Age and national identity have positive effects on East Asian identity. Among generational cohorts, the democratization cohort were less likely than other cohorts to have East Asian identity. These findings suggest several implications. First, in Korea, unlike other countries in the Western world, the older tend to have stronger regional identity than the younger do. Second, unlike the existing literature, this paper finds that strong national identity (pride) is complementary, rather than substitutive, to supranational regional identity. This warrants further systematic research on the microfoundation on the relationship between regional integration and nationalism in Northeast Asia.

  • This study examines factors that influence adolescents' political trust in Asian societies with special emphases on authoritarian orientations and corruption perception. Previous studies on adolescents' political trust have focused almost exclusively on Western societies. As a result, the impact of other cultural values that are specific to Asian societies, such as authoritarian orientations, on adolescents' political trust has received little attention in the existing literature. Moreover, situated within a socialization framework which argues that political trust is an extension of interpersonal trust, much prior work has ignored the role of adolescent evaluations of institutional performance in generating political trust. The data I use offer empirical evidence that both authoritarian orientations and institutional performance-especially its ability to curb corruption-are independent sources of political trust among Asian adolescents and that the trust-eroding effect of corruption is less salient among Asian adolescents adopting more authoritarian orientations. Additionally, the evidence also suggests that corruption perception is a more important factor than authoritarian orientations in shaping adolescents' political trust in more economically developed countries while the reverse pattern is found in less developed countries.

  • Background: The HER-2/neu gene is altered in 15-20% of breast cancer patients. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is considered to be the most cost-effective method for HER-2 detection in many countries. Approximately 8,000 new cases of breast cancer are observed annually in Iran. The aims of this study were to conduct a systematic review of the literature on the rate of HER-2-positive breast cancer diagnosed by IHC in Iran. Methods: A systematic search of the medical literature using the Medline/PubMed, ISI and SID databases revealed articles published in the English and Persian languages evaluating HER-2-positive breast cancer in Iran. Results: From 22 studies, 3,033 patients were evaluated, of whom 1,350 were diagnosed as HER-2-positive by IHC HER-2 testing. The mean percentage of HER-2-positive patients was 44.5%, which is higher than that recorded in international statistics. Results of this meta-analysis showed a significant heterogeneity between ratios. There was a statistically significant difference between the results of pre- and post implementation of 2007 American Society of Clinical Oncology/College of American Pathologists (ASCO/CAP) guideline. IHC HER-2 testing has been performed in Iran for over 10 years. Similar to many other countries, before establishment of an infrastructure for IHC diagnostic tests, HER-2 testing was routinely performed in Iran. Our study showed that the statistics reported from Iran varied widely; for instance, the rate of HER-2-positive cases varied from 23.3% to 81.0%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that the lack of standardization and harmonization of this test have led to marked variations in breast cancer diagnosis in Iran.

  • The objective of this research is to examine the factors affecting the decision-making of International Commercial Terms (Incoterms) of automotive parts manufacturers in Thailand. This mixed method study applied qualitative and quantitative research methods and utilized the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to prioritize the significance of the factors. By an in-depth literature review and expert interview, four main criteria were identified. These criteria include Operating costs, Cooperation and bargaining power, Knowledge and understanding and Operation duration then main criteria divided into fifteen sub-criteria. The common Incoterms, Ex Works (EXW), Free On Board (FOB), Free Carrier (FCA), and Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF), were determined as alternatives to the incoterms through a preliminary survey. The results revealed that the operating costs were the most important factor for the company. Moreover, it was discovered that this was consistent with the priority of the secondary factors, which included the annual budget for the transportation expenses and product value at one time. The respondents' perspective suggested that FCA was the most appropriate Incoterms for international trade for a company. The findings of this research suggest a hierarchy model for organizations to prioritize the significant factors in order to make a decision on the most appropriate Incoterms.

  • This paper aims to analyze factors influencing earnings of workers in Vietnam using provincial-level data from 2016 to 2018. We show the important determinants of earnings of workers of more than 15 years old including working hour, labor force, life expectancy, education, regulation measured by Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and especially Industry 4.0, our major depart from literature proxies by government expenditure on science and technology, number of phone lines, and number of internet users. Working hours are a typical measurement of quantity of labor supplied. Labor force represents market size from the supply side. Life expectancy measures the health of laborers, a physical quality measure of workers. PCI stands for institutional status of the locality. Two most important factors of our interest are education, representing qualification of workers, and Industry 4.0, reflecting the new working environment of workers. By estimating a robust standard error fixed-effect model, we have evidence that all factors are significant in explaining earnings of Vietnamese workers. Education and IR4.0 play an important role in earnings of workers of Vietnam. Results also provide an estimation of Vietnam's labor supply in the context of Industry 4.0. In addition, findings contribute to explain the income discrepancy among Vietnamese provinces.
