Objective The aim of this study was to investigate stress-related factors. Method: The subjects were 22,937 persons who had received health examination by Korean Medicine and submitted questionnaires for 8 months from March to November in 2011. The stress was measured by heart rate variability in an automobile manufacturing industry. We analyzed the relationship between stress and other factors including ages, smoke amount, drinking frequency, exercise frequency, occupational category, conjugal condition by multivariate analysis with SPSS ver. 19.0. Results: Comparing "normal" to "very bad" and "bad" level of stress, ages, drinking frequency, conjugal condition are not significant difference(p>0.05). But smoking amount and occupational category are significant difference(p<0.05). Whereas comparing "normal" to "very good" and "good" level of stress, ages, occupational category, conjugal condition, smoking amount, drinking frequency are not significant difference(p>0.05). Exercise is significant difference(p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that smoke is affected to stress negatively, whereas exercise is affected to stress positively.
The study was attempted to observe effects of voluntary exercise on energy expenditure and on storage of excessive energy into body fat in adult mice. Mice, body weight 25-30g, were divided into two groups, exercise and sedentary group. Voluntary exercize by running wheel was allowed for former group but not for the mice of the latter group which were restricted by limiting space allowance 13.5$\times$11.5$\times$15.0cm per mouse. During a period of 4 weeks of feeding trial, they were fed ad libitum starch-casein based diet added with $^3\textrm{H}$-glucose (D-[1-$^3\textrm{H}$(N)]-glucose) at a level of 20 nCi per g of diet. Measurements were made to study hematology, lipase activity in epididymal adipose tissue, total contents of body waste and fat, and radiactivity of $^3\textrm{H}$-glucose incoporated into body fat. Dietary intake, body weight gain and amount of voluntary physical activities were also measured. The results obtained ard summarized as follows; 1) Amount of metabolizable energy intake, body weight gain and body fat were not statistically different between the two group. However, mice of the exercise group tended to show lower body weight gain body fat contants, but higher energy expenditure than those of the sedentary group. 2) Radioactivity of $^3\textrm{H}$-glucose incoporated into body fat appeared lower for exercise group expressd on a whole body fat basis. The activity was, however, higher for exercise group when expressed based on per g of fat compared to that of sedentary group. 3) Exercise group showed also higher activity of lipase in epididymal adipose tissue than the other group. 4) Mice whose physical activities were restricted appeared to have lower levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit values than of the exercise group. These results seem to support the theory that turn-over rate of body fat is activated by exercise and to suggest that consumed energy is to be converted primarily into body fat before its use as energy source by oxidation even during a period of continuous energy expenditure by exercise.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of maximum and endurance resistance exercises on total work, blood viscosity, and erythrocyte volume ratio. The study subjects were selected as 15 men in their twenties with 12 months or more of resistance exercise experience, and the bench press 1RM was measured before the experiment, and the experiment for each condition was cross-allocated at intervals of one week, and the maximum repetition was performed in 6 sets. As a result, the total amount of exercise showed that the muscular endurance strength was higher than that of the maximum muscular strength (p<.001), and the blood viscosity and erythrocyte volume ratio were higher after exercise than before (p<.01) regardless of the total exercise amount. In summary, it was found that blood viscosity was not affected by exercise intensity and amount of exercise, and increased with one-time resistance exercise. This is clinically significant in constructing a resistance exercise program, and it is considered to be a reference material in creating an exercise program for clinical patients related to vascular disease.
Purpose: This study was undertaken to compare the signal characteristics of surface electromyography (EMG) between progressive resistive increase exercise (PRIE) and progressive resistive decrease exercise (PRDE). Methods: Forty healthy male subjects were randomly assigned to either the PRIE group or the PRDE group. Subjects participated in the PRIE and PRDE methods, with 10 RM for each subject. EMG activity was recorded from the rectus femoris muscle. Outcome data were collected for both groups pre-exercise, immediately post-exercise, then at 5 and 10 minutes post-exercise. Repeated measures 2-way ANOVA was used to determine the statistical difference of the root mean square (RMS) in EMG activity. Results: We showed that RMS values, when compared with pre-exercise, were decreased immediately after exercise and were increased at 5 and 10 minutes after exercise (p<0.05). The RMS values were not significantly different between the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results can indicate that both the PRIE and PRDE protocols will be improve strength with equivalent efficacy. Further studies are needed to address exercise duration, frequency of exercise sessions, and rest times than the PRIE and PRDE protocols with regard to the changes in strength improvement without a large amount of muscle fatigue.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the intensity of warm-up exercise on the physiological response and exercise performance during resistance exercise. For this purpose, 8 male college students with at least 1 year of experience in resistance movement were selected. The warm-up condition was set to NON condition (preparatory exercise not performed), 3 set condition, 6 set condition, and 9 set condition, and the intensity was different for each set. After warm-up, 75% 1RM of main exercise was performed, and blood pressure and heart rate were measured immediately after exercise to measure RPP. The number of repetitions and total work for each condition were measured as the number of repetitions and momentum during the main exercise. The measured data were analyzed by repeated measures two-way ANOVA. As a result, although there was no difference in Rate Pressure Product according to the warm-up conditions, the number of repetitions and total amount of exercise showed the highest in the 3-set condition. Therefore, it is thought that the number and intensity of warm-up exercises should be set appropriately during resistance exercise, and warm-up of 3 sets or more during resistance exercise is thought to decrease exercise performance.
In this study, we have figured out exercise time and the amount of burned calories, using a three-axis acceleration sensor which we name as a health sensor. What is more, the health sensor calculates the degree of physical exercise taken during exercise. As is generally known, continuing, regular exercise is far more effective than short time exercise for sustainable health management. The health sensor is, therefore, recommended as an instrument to efficiently carry out the health management. Additionally, the health sensor was applied as an exercise subsidiary system to walking and jumping rope tests. In light of their results, the sensor system was found useful for analyzing the pattern of exercise.
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to confirm that the difference in excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) during exercise of the spending the same calories between the continuous and interval exercise. [Methods] Thirty-four healthy college students who did not regularly exercise volunteered to participate in our study. Continuous exercise was performed on an ergometer for 30 min at 60% of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). Interval exercise was performed on a cycle ergometer at 80% VO2 max for 2 min initially, followed by 40% VO2 max for 1 min, and 80% VO2 max for 3 min. This was repeated six times for a total of 26 min. [Results] The major findings were as follows: (1) energy consumption during exercise was not significantly different between continuous exercise and interval exercise groups; (2) EPOC was higher in interval exercise than in continuous exercise for all dependent variables (i.e., total oxygen consumption, total calories, summation of heart rate); and (3) there were no significant differences in the lipid profile between continuous and interval groups. [Conclusions] Our study confirmed that after equalizing energy expenditure for continuous and interval exercise on a cycle ergometer in subjects in their twenties, interval exercise results in higher EPOC than continuous exercise. These data suggest that interval exercise may be more effective than continuous exercise in reducing body fat, for a given amount of energy expenditure.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in muscle activity of the rectus abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique muscles according to abdominal muscle exercise methods such as plank exercise, side plank exercise, and crunch exercise. Methods : This study was conducted with 37 college students. All subjects participating in this study were randomly assigned to the plank exercise group, the side plank exercise group, and the crunch exercise group. The exercise corresponding to each group was performed for a total of 8 weeks. The muscle activity of the abdominal muscles was measured before the experiment, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks, and the rectus abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique muscles were measured. Results : As a result of comparison according to the period in the change in muscle activity of the abdominal muscles after exercise, the amount of change in muscle activity in all three muscles showed a significant difference. As a result of the post-hoc analysis, the muscle activity value of the internal oblique muscle after 4 weeks in the plank exercise showed a significant difference from the value after 8 weeks. In the side plank exercise, the muscle activity values of the rectus abdominis and external oblique muscles before and after 4 weeks showed significant differences from those after 8 weeks. And in the crunch exercise, the muscle activity value of the rectus abdominis muscle before exercise showed a significant difference from the value after 8 weeks. Conclusion : Plank exercise increases the muscle activity of the rectus abdominis, side plank exercise increases the rectus abdominis and external oblique muscles, and crunch exercise increases the muscle activity of the rectus abdominis. Therefore, it is thought that the stability of the trunk can be improved more efficiently if all three exercises are performed.
This study aimed to measure the amount of sweating on 12 parts of the upper body using absorption fabric and analyze subjective sensations. The study was conducted with 9 male subjects in climate chamber controled at $30{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, and $55{\pm}5%$ RH. The result was that sweating amount of the upper back part was significantly more than upper front part. We assumed that forced convection flow cased by exercise decreased the sweating rate in the front. The skin temperature of upper front body rapidly decreased as soon as exercise starts and gradually increased with cessation of exercise. On the other hand, the skin temperature of palm increased with exercise and showed continuous increasing even exercise stopping all the experimental period. This is caused by thermoregulatory responses through vasodilatation on the peripheral area. Subjective sensations, such as thermal sensation, wet sensation, and thermal comfort showed the highest score at the time of exercise stop. This means the subjects felt more hot, wet, and uncomfortable after exercise stopped. Bur after wiping of sweat, subjective sensation scores were recovered rapidly. The present study has provided more detailed information on the upper body sweat distribution than previously available, which can be used in clothing design, thermo-physiological modeling, and thermal manikin design. We also think that results of the present study will play an important role in making the sweat distribution map.
