  • Tin oxide thin films have been prepared on display glass from mixtures of dibutyl tin diacetate as a tin source, oxygen as an oxidant by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) method. The relationships between the properties of tin oxide thin films and various reaction parameters such as the deposition temperature, deposition time and the oxygen gas flow rate were studied. As the deposition temperature increased, the texture plane of $SnO_2$ changed from (200) plane to denser (211) and (110) planes. Lower deposition temperature and thinner thickness of deposited film led to decreasing grain size, surface roughness and electrical resistivity of the formed thin films at $325{\sim}425^{\circ}C$. The properties of fabricated $SnO_2$ films are highly changed with variations of substrate temperature and deposition time.

  • With advancements in digital image production technology, the branch of stereoscopic image technology has also been undergoing active development. Accordingly, research and development on cutting-edge display products for mounting stereoscopic images are currently being pursued. There are various problems that can occur when viewing 3D images. Because viewers feel visual fatigue while perceiving the depth of the images provided via an artificial method, a negative human factor such as visual fatigue has become one of the most prominent concerns, especially as it is a factor that affects the ongoing maintenance of 3D images. Therefore, by identifying the factors affecting the depth of the graphic images provided in 2D images, and subsequently using this information to develop an image processing method, we conducted depth-related experiments and analysed them under the assumption that stereoscopic images could be reproduced without visual fatigue. Thus, we analysed the most significant factors related to depth and verified the interactions by performing depth-related factors-based ANOVA variance analysis by differentially applying the texture, colour temperature, and contrast ratio to graphic images. We determined the significance of the factors related to depth and proposed a method to improve depth based on an analysis of the results of the experiments conducted in this study.

  • On live performance such as play and musical, various stage effects are utilized to attract a diverse audience. These stage effects include traditional direction techniques, striking display effects and all kinds of ways of being immersed in the scene. In this paper, we propose a novel digital visual effects(digilog) for controlling the surface texture of objects based on spatial augmented reality. For this purpose, we present a method of neutralizing the appearance of an arbitrary object using a projector-camera system. To make the object appear as if it is a transparent object by projecting a carefully determined compensation image onto the surface of objects, we use the homography method for a simple and effective off-line projector-camera calibration. The successful uses of the basic algorithm of Smart Projector for measuring radiometric parameters led us believe that this method may be used for temporal variation of plays and musicals.

  • This paper proposes a face tracking algorithm for a viewpoint adaptive multi-view synthesis system. The original scene captured by a depth camera contains a texture image and 8 bit gray-scale depth map. From this original image, multi-view images that correspond to the viewer's position can be synthesized using geometrical transformations, such as rotation and translation. The proposed face tracking technique gives a motion parallax cue by different viewpoints and view angles. In the proposed algorithm, the viewer's dominant face, which is established initially from a camera, can be tracked using the statistical characteristics of face colors and deformable templates. As a result, a motion parallax cue can be provided by detecting the viewer's dominant face area and tracking it, even under a heterogeneous background, and synthesized sequences can be displayed successfully.

  • Facial feature detection is a fundamental function in the field of computer vision such as security, bio-metrics, 3D modeling, and face recognition. There are many algorithms for the function, active shape model is one of the most popular local texture models. This paper addresses issues related to face detection, and implements an efficient extraction algorithm for extracting the facial feature points to use on iOS platform. In this paper, we extend the original ASM algorithm to improve its performance by four modifications. First, to detect a face and to initialize the shape model, we apply a face detection API provided from iOS CoreImage framework. Second, we construct a weighted local structure model for landmarks to utilize the edge points of the face contour. Third, we build a modified model definition and fitting more landmarks than the classical ASM. And last, we extend and build two-dimensional profile model for detecting faces within input images. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on experimental test set containing over 500 face images, and found to successfully extract facial feature points, clearly outperforming the original ASM.

  • One of the main applications of digital image processing is the estimation of the number of certain types of objects (cells, seeds, peoples etc.) in an image. Difficulties of these counting problems depends on various factors including shape and size variation, degree of object clustering, contrast between object and background, object texture and its variation, and so on. In this paper, a new automatic colony counting algorithm is proposed. We focused on the two applications: counting the bacteria colonies on the agar plate and estimating the number of seeds from images captured by smartphone camera. To overcome the shape and size variations of the colonies, we adopted the distance transformation and peak detection approach. To estimate the reference size of the colony robustly, we also used k-means clustering algorithm. Experimental results show that our method works well in real world applications.

  • We present a fast-switching electro-optical device based on flexoelectro-optic effect in short pitch cholesterics oriented in uniform lying helix texture. The device has two operating modes: amplitude and phase modulation mode. The amplitude modulation mode is a fast in-plane switching of the device optic axis that enables to achieve a high percent of modulation of the transmitted light intensity whereas the phase mode gives a continuous change of the refractive index and thus of the phase shift of the transmitted light. By using a small concentration of diacrylate monomer and selecting the illumination conditions we have been able to create a inhomogeneous polymeric network mostly localized at both substrate surfaces and stabilize the two switching modes.

  • Accurate optical texturing of light guide plate over the entire surface area is an important technical issue in LCD TV industry. Injection molding process has the potential to produce large light guide plates having highly efficient optical textures such as micro-prism array. This study is focused on the effect of the degree of replication of the micro texture of the 40" injection molded light guide plates on the overall optical performance of the display panel. Measured replication ratios of the micro-textures formed with three different types of injection molding process were considered in the modeling of prismatic micro segment array. Optical simulation was conducted and results were discussed.

  • Recently, we have many kinds of picture format and display, and resizing (scaling) of picture becomes important. In this processing, quality of picture depends on re-sizing method. For this, some methods to improve the PSNR have been proposed. However, subjective picture quality is more important. Especially, degradation caused by re-sizing, such as jaggy (aliasing) and ringing, should be reduced. To solve them, we have proposed the method using directional adaptive interpolation. To improve the performance of this method, we consider the shape analysis this time. In the proposed method, directional adaptive processing is applied for pure edge only. In the texture area and flat area, 8 tap re-sampling filter is used. As the results of processing, the reductions of jaggy and incorrect interpolated pixels are recognized. The subjective picture quality of proposed method is significantly better than 8-tap re-sampling which gives good PSNR.

  • The influence of isomeric state of doped azo dye on the $B_7$ phase of bent-shaped liquid crystal (LC) is studied. It was found that modulating the isomeric trans-cis state of azo dye can change the molecular arrangement of the bent-shaped LCs. To identify these phenomena the observations of microscopic texture, electro-optic response, second harmonic wave generation (SHG) and switching current were carried out..
