Characteristics of Meta-aramid Fabrics Coated with Slurry of Nanoscale SiC Particles (나노 탄화규소(SiC) 슬러리로 코팅된 메타-아라미드 직물의 특성)

  • Most of high performance fabrics for the car racing protective clothing have been developed to have thermal resistance, flame retardant property, impact resistance and anti-frictional properties to protect the racer from the crucial accident. In this study, the meta-aramid fabric, which has inherent flame retardant, was coated with nanoparticles of SiC to enhance the impact resistance and anti-friction properties. Uniform coating of the nanoparticles onto the fabrics was obtained by using tape casting method. As the experimental parameters, size and content of the SiC nanoparticle were varied with the coating conditions of the fabric surface. The effects of the nanoparticle coating on the properties of meta-aramid fabric were examined with various instrumental analyses such as SEM, tensile strength and abrasion test.

  • Several forms of nanonetworked carbon materials were synthesized by high pressure and high temperature treatments of fullerene C$\_$60/ and single-walled carbon nanotube bundles. Structural properties (e.g. thermal expansion coefficients and compressibilities) of the synthesized materials were investigated by XRD measurements using synchrotron X-ray. Their formation mechanisms are also discussed.

Developing Continuous Stabilization Process for Textile-Grade PAN Fiber-Based Carbon Fiber Using UV Irradiation (저가형 탄소섬유 개발을 위한 자외선 조사 기반 의류용 PAN 섬유의 연속식 안정화 공정 개발)

  • Carbon fibers (CFs) are considered promising composite materials for various applications. However, the high cost of CFs (as much as $26 per kg) limits their practical use in the automobile and energy industries. In this study, we developed a continuous stabilization process for manufacturing low-cost CFs. We employed a textile-grade polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber as a low-cost precursor and UV irradiation technique to shorten the thermal stabilization time. We confirmed that UV irradiation on the textile-grade PAN fibers could lower the initial thermal stabilization temperature and also lead to a higher reaction. These resulted in a shorter overall stabilization time and enhancement of the tensile properties of textile-grade PAN-based CFs. Our study found that only 70 min of stabilization time with UV irradiation was required to prepare textile-grade PAN-based low-cost CFs with a tensile strength of 2.37 ± 0.22 GPa and tensile modulus of 249 ± 5 GPa.

Self-assembly Coloration Approach on Cotton Fibers using Porphyrin

  • In this work, poly(diallyldimethylammoniumchloride) (PDDAC) and meso-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin were considered to produce the self-assembly fabrication films. This method is based on the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition produced by the electrostatic attraction between positively charged PDDAC and negatively charged porphyrin ions. The result of multilayer fabrication was discussed with the level of color strength (K/S). K/S spectra of the fabricated multilayer films showed gradual increase behaviors. In addition, the color photo images of the fabricated multilayer films showed that PDDAC and porphyrin were successfully attracted by electrostatic self-assembly forces.

Main Fashion Brands Subject to Investigation by the Textile Firms for the Purpose of the Development of New Textiles (국내 소재업체의 패션정보 수집 대상 선호 브랜드에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine which fashion brands are most likely to be investigated by Korean textile firms when they conduct their market trend analyses. The result shows that for the domestic sales, textile firms are most likely to collect and analyze information on the Cheil Textil Co. It is followed by Bean Pole, Chanel, Buberry, Tomboy. For the future domestic sales, textile firms prefers referring foreign fashion brands such as Burberry, ZARA, MaxMara, Missoni, and Chanel. Textile firms majoring exports prefers collecting and analyzing information on D&G followed by Chanel, Gucci, and DKNY. This preference, however, differs when considering exporting areas. Textile firms targeting the French market considers Gucci, followed by Ferragamo, Dior, Louisvuitton. Textile firms targeting the Italian market prefer Chanel, followed by Valentine, ZARA, Gucci, and Armani. Chanel is also top brand for the North American and Japanese markets, and followed by GAP, ZARA, OZOC, Missoni, Munshing Wear. The information content collected and analyzed by textile firms is style, pattern, color, and textile materials for textile firms targeting the domestic sales, while the exporting firms prefer information on color and textile materials proposed and presented by the fashion brands to which they prefer to make reference. The result of this study can be used to effectively and efficiently collect and analyze market information on fashion brands for textile firms majoring the domestic and foreign sales.
