  • 본 논문은 ATSC T3/S9에 수신 성능 개선을 위해 제안된 방식 중 이중 스트림 기술을 알아보고 Robust 8-VSB와 Pseudo 2-VSB의 등화기에서 강인 데이터가 일반 데이터의 성능에 미치는 영향을 비교 분석하기 위해 전산 모의 실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과 Robust 8-VSB 방식은 이용된 모든 채널 환경에서 강인 데이터가 일반데이터의 성능 개선에 도움을 주지만, Pseudo 2-VSB방식의 경우는 채널 환경이 나쁜 경우에 강인 데이터가 일반 데이터의 성능 개선에 도움을 주는 것을 보여주었다.

Broadband Quasi-Yagi Antenna with a Ring-type Balun for Indoor DTV Reception (링형 밸런을 이용한 실내 DTV 수신용 광대역 준-야기 안테나)

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a broadband 3-element quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) for indoor digital television (DTV) reception. The proposed QYA employs a novel balun between a microstrip (MS) line and a coplanar strip (CPS) line feeding the driver dipole. The proposed balun is constructed by connecting the end of MS line to CPS line through a shorting pin, and the CPS and ground reflector are connected through a circular ring-type conductor. An antenna, as an design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV. The antenna fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $270mm{\times}150mm$ showed a good performance such as a frequency band of 470-820 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2, a gain > 4.0 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 8.4 dB over the DTV frequency band.

A Study on the Frequency Analysis of Available Channels in TVWS around the West Sea of Korea (Incheon-Jejudo) (대한민국 서해상 (인천-제주도)에서의 TVWS 가용채널 주파수 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is the study in Korea to secure new frequency resources available at sea among terrestrial DTV (Digital TV) broadcasting bands. Focusing on Incheon and Jejudo in the west Sea of Korea, the possibility of using TVWS frequencies of DTV broadcast signals (channels 14-51, 470~698 MHz) was studied. According to the analysis, three channels, channel 19 (503 MHz), channel 37 (611 MHz) and channel 39 (623 MHz) can be used as TVWS available channels without interference with DTV in all nearby seas such as Incheon Port and Jeju Port. On the other hand, two channels, Channel 23 (527 MHz) and Channel 33 (587 MHz), were divided into strong DTV signals in the section between Incheon Port and Jeju Port, making it difficult to use them as available frequencies for TVWS on the west coast.

  • This paper is concerning about the demapping method using the pilots inserted in transmitter in COFDM(Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) demodulator which is the standard transmission method of terrestrial digital TV system in Europe(DVB-T). We have presented a simple and efficient method of CSI(Channel State Information) generation and demapping method using CSI. The CSI was derived from the pilot carriers inserted with comb-type among the received active carriers, which is defined as a SNR. From the simulation results for the 3 different constellations of the receiver, we could confirm that the system performance comparing with conventional soft decision method has been improved under DVB-T standard Rayleigh and Ricean fading channel.

  • In this paper, we propose the occupied bandwidth(OBW) measurement method for effectively measuring the 99 $\%$ OBW at monitoring station. In order to validate the measurement results obtained from the proposed measurement method, the modified adjacent channel power ratio(MACPR) is herein defined as the formula which was suitable for applying to the OBW measurement of 8-VSB DTV signals. It has been found that the MACPR is a good measurement parameter applicable for the proper site selection of monitoring station and the effective OBW measurement of 8-VSB DTV signals should be made for MACPR$\geq$35 dB with 600 measurement trials. The proposed measurement procedure is herein given and proven to effectively be applicable to the OBW measurement of terrestrial 8-VSB DTV signals on the air.

  • Non-real-time delivery of stereoscopic video has been considered as a service scenario for 3DTV to overcome the limited bandwidth in the terrestrial digital television system. A hybrid codec combining MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC has been suggested for the compression of stereoscopic video for 3DTV. In this paper, we propose a stereoscopic video coding scheme using adaptive pre-/post-filters (APPF) to improve the quality of 3D video while retaining compatibility with legacy video coding standards. The APPF are applied adaptively to blocks of various sizes determined by the macroblock coding mode and reference frame index. Experiment results show that the proposed method achieves up to 24.86% bit rate savings relative to a hybrid codec of MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC including the inter-view prediction.

  • 채널의 다중경로를 통과한 신호들은 지연확산 영향으로 심하게 왜곡이 되거나 Inter-Symbol Interference(ISI)가 발생하므로 왜곡된 채널을 추정하여 보상해야 한다. 기존 iterative 채널 추정 방식에서는 채널 시간 지연 길이 밖으로 zero padding함으로 노이즈 성분을 제거하는 알고리즘이다. 반면에 본 논문은 채널 시간 지연 길이 안으로 있는 노이즈 성분까지 노이즈 제거 문턱 값 추정(noise elimination threshold estimation: NETE) 알고리즘을 사용하여 노이즈를 효과적으로 제거한다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 채널의 mean square error(MSE)를 통하여 제안된 기법을 적용할 경우 채널 추정 성능 개선이 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 방송용주파수를 좀 더 효율적으로 활용하여 시청자가 쉽게 지상파방송을 직접 수신할 수 있도록 DTV 방송 수신환경 개선 방법에 대해 찾아보고 난시청해소와 차세대방송에 필요한 주파수 소요량을 정량적으로 제시하고자 한다. 특히 디지털전환 이후에 회수되는 700MHz 대역 (108MHz 주파수폭)에 대하여 UDTV 와 Full-HD 3DTV 기술을 적용한 차세대방송을 구축할 때 난시청해소와 시청자와 방송과 산업에 미치는 효과를 제시한다.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to broadcast digital television signals using single frequency networks (SFNs) within the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) transmission systems. In implementing the SFNs of an 8-vestigial side band (8-VSB) Digital Television (DTV) system, the ambiguity problem of the trellis coder is unavoidable in a conventional ATSC transmission system. We propose a memory initialization of the trellis coder to resolve this ambiguity problem. Since the proposed scheme to synchronize multiple transmitters minimizes the changes from the conventional ATSC system, the hardware complexity for these changes is very low. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme makes a less than 0.1 dB degradation at the threshold of visibility with a bit error rate of $3{\times}10^{-6}$ in the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. It is possible to reduce the performance degradation by increasing the initialization period of the proposed scheme.

Design of Broadband Planar Dipole Antenna for Indoor Digital TV Reception (실내 디지털 TV 수신용 광대역 평면 다이폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for a broadband planar dipole antenna for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception is studied. The dipole is modified to half bow-tie type for size reduction. The balun between feeding microstrip line and coplanar strip (CPS) line is implemented with a rectangular patch inserted along the center of the CPS line. The proposed antenna is the structure of dual resonances, one is due to the dipole and the other is due to the CPS line attached by the balun. The effects of various geometrical parameters on the antenna performance are examined, and the antenna is designed for terrestrial DTV band (470-806 MHz). The prototype antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $95mm{\times}178mm$, and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.
