  • In this paper, we classify the mathematical terms in Korean Standard Unabridged Dictionary into four groups; ① group 1 consists of the terms which coincide with the mathematical terms in the 2015 Editing Material, ② group 2 consists of the terms which are synonyms or old terms or inflection forms of the mathematical terms in the Editing Material, ③ group 3 consists of the terms which do not belong to group 1 or group 2, but relate to the elementary or secondary school mathematics, ④ group 4 consists of the terms which do not relate to the elementary or secondary school mathematics. And then we make a comparative study with the mathematical terms in the Editing Material. In this study, we find out the mathematical terms in the Editing Material, but not in Korean Standard Unabridged Dictionary. And by using synonyms and old terms of the mathematical terms in the Editing Material we guess the rough tendency which terms belong to the Editing Material. By investigating the terms in group 3 and 4, we find out the mathematical terms which may belong to the Editing Material. We also find out the wrong or inconsistent explanations in Korean Standard Unabridged Dictionary.

  • Objective: This research examined mothers' and preschoolers' uses of mental state terms during pretend play and linked such use to children's independent mental state terms used in hypothetical narratives. Methods: Fifty four-year-olds and their mothers were engaged in pretend play and the preschoolers were asked to provide hypothetical narratives. Mothers' and preschoolers' mental state terms were analyzed in terms of types and frequencies. Results: During pretend play, the mothers and preschoolers used desire state terms most variously and frequently, followed by cognitive and emotion state terms. In the hypothetical narratives, the preschoolers used desire state terms most variously and frequently; however they talked about emotion state terms more variously and cognitive state terms more frequently. In addition, the mothers' mental state terms were correlated with the preschoolers' mental state terms during the pretend play, and the mothers' and preschoolers' uses of mental state terms during pretend play were related to the preschoolers' mental state terms in hypothetical narratives. Conclusion: Findings from this study highlight that, during the preschool period, a mothers' mental state language might foster her child's understanding of mental states in himself/herself and in others.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the preferences of the school mathematical terms of South Korea and those of North Korea by administering a survey for learners, inservice teachers, and pre-service teachers, to establish the criteria of desirable school mathematical terms, and to evaluate the school mathematical terms of South Korea and those of North Korea based on the criteria. According to the result of the survey, the preferred mathematical terms are different from one group to the other, yet the mathematical terms of South Korea are more preferred. In general, terms written in pure Korean and concise terms which are easily understandable are favored. To discuss about the criteria of desirable school mathematical terms, four perspectives were set up, 1) the semantic perspective and the regulatory perspective, 2) terms written in pure Korean and Chinese letters, 3) terms from everyday language and technical terms, and 4) the consistency. Six criteria were followed from the aforementioned four perspectives. Finally, various school mathematical terms of South and North Korea were reviewed in the angles of the four perspectives and the six criteria.

  • Since textbooks are developed according to the curriculum, it might be said that the terms registered in curriculum can serve as guidelines for terms used in textbooks. But it really is not. In this study, so that terms registered in curriculum can serve as guidelines for terms used in textbooks, inconsistencies between them would be found out and improved. To this end, suitability of selecting and using terms are discussed, focusing on terms registered in curriculum and terms used in textbooks. In fact, there are significant differences between the terms registered in curriculum and the terms in textbooks, because there is not any criteria in selecting and using terms. In this study the five criteria with respect to registering terms in curriculum are proposed. Everyday language should not be registered. Naturalized terms should not be registered. Terms used in only elementary mathematics, but are already well-established should be registered. Same term used in diverse context should be registered only once. Terms which can be used without definition should be designated. Three criteria in regard to using terms in textbooks are proposed. Terms registered in curriculum must be used. Same term used in diverse context should be redefined in every context. Terms that are not certified and are not absolutely necessary must not be used.

  • In pthis aper, mathematical terms in 7th elementary mathematics curriculum(from now, in short, 7th curriculum)are reexamined critically. In 7th curriculum there are 123 terms, which seems to be selected cautiously But it is not sure. There are lots of evidences for selecting terms incautiously, Through these evidences, following conclusions are induced: (1) Terms were not selected strictly. There are many terms omitted in 7th curriculum, which are necessary for understanding mathematical concepts. (2) There were no rational principles for selecting terms in 7th curriculum. Any rational principles can not be found out among terms in 7th curriculum. (3) Mathematical terms and real life terms in 7th curriculum were not distinguished explicitly. There were some real life terms in 7th curriculum, which were significant for understanding mathematical concepts. But other real life terms which is significant also for understanding mathematical concepts were not contained in 7th curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to scrutinize the change of Korean dwelling space terms, and confirm the value of literature as data for a study on dwelling space terms. The terms, which describe the dwelling space, were selected in 63 Korean literature. The terms about rooms, working spaces, space for physiology and hygienic, and storage spaces, were analyzed. The terms about rooms were classified by a constituent unit of traditional housing, location, size, function, and so on. Among them, the number of terms about function had increased more and more. These terms were changed by housing size, housing form, structure of house and household, family size, and so on. It was confirmed that literatures have utility values for a study on change of dwelling space terms. In next study, it is required to analyze the meaning and usage of Korean dwelling space terms, and to compare terms in floorplans with terms in literature.

  • The medical treatment is process of collecting symptoms, making a diagnosis and treatment for the diagnosis. The remedy and the efficacy are the important hinge that links the diagnosis to the means of medical treatment. Lots of medical data are stored on database or saved as files in these days. The preferential way to find the efficacy related to the remedy is search all efficacy terms match up to the remedy term. To increase the rate of matching remedy terms with efficacy terms, we study the relation between efficacy terms and remedy terms and research the conversion way of the terms into the representative terms. The rate of matching the raw remedy terms with the raw efficacy terms is below 30%. The rate of matching the disaggregate remedy terms with the disaggregate efficacy terms is about 50%. The rate of matching the representative remedy terms with the representative efficacy terms is almost 70%.

  • Korea and China have maintained close relationships since the ancient times along with Japan, which also shares the common Chinese culture. The three major players in Northeast Asia have been recognizing their increasing importance in politics, economy, society, and culture. Considering those relationships among the three countries, it's necessary to compare and investigate their mathematics terminology. The purpose of this study is to investigate the similarities and differences between the terminology of school mathematics in Korean, Chinese and Japanese. The mathematics terms included in the junior high school of Korea were selected, and the corresponding terms in Chinese and Japanese were identified. Among 133 Korean terms, 72 were shared by three countries, 9 Korean terms were common with China, and the remaining 52 Korean terms were the same as Japanese terms. Korea had more common terms with Japan than China, which can be explained by the influences of the Japanese education during its rule of Korea in the past. The survey with 14 terms which show the discrepancy among 3 countries were conducted for in-service teachers and pre-service teachers. According to the result of the survey, preferred mathematics terms are different from one group to the other, yet the Korean mathematics terms were more preferred in general. However some terms in Chinese and Japanese were favored in certain degree. This result may provide meaningful implications to revise the school mathematics terms in the future.

  • As one of the trials for a systematic approach to mathematics terms which occupies an important place in teaching and learning mathematics, compositions of listed terms in 2011 elementary mathematics curriculum in Korea are discussed in this study. To this end, listed terms are classified in view of three points and looked for their characteristics, from which implications are found out for elementary mathematics teaching and learning First of all classifications into grade-group and domain-specific terms, then into newly coined terms and terms from everyday life, and then into korean terms and chinese character terms and english terms are attempted. Next, terms with a kernel and terms without a kernel are distinguished, and in this process, term-sets are presented. Finally, object terms, operation terms, relationship terms, measure terms, conditions terms, graphics terms, name terms are classified. Based on these results, the following implications for elementary mathematics teaching and learning are suggested. First, it should be considered that many of the listed terms in 2011 curriculum are newly coined and chinese character terms. Second, the interconnections between terms should be considered. Third, a variety of roles and functions of the terms should be considered.

  • Standard contsacts are drafted by one side only and therefore naturally favour that party. The other party must either adhere to those terms or abandon the transaction entirely. Accordingly the terms in these contracts tend to by quite harsh, especially so in consumer transactions. The objectives of this study are to examine the degree of consumer knowledge practical use, experience of consumer problems on service contract terms and to investigate the factors which influence on the degree of experience of consumer problems related the contract terms. The data used in this empirical study included 685 consumers experienced transactions with the terms in the last two years in Seoul. Statistics used for data analysis ere Reliability, Frequencies, Means, Standard Deviation and Multiple Regression Analysis. The conclusions can be summarized as follows. 1) Actually, consumers experienced many problems related the service-contract terms, despite regulation of unfair contract terms. 2) The level of education and purchasing experience variables have affected positively to the level of consumer problem experiences related the contract terms. 3) The effect of trend and characteristics of contract terms are variables with the type of contract terms. Therefore the regulation of the contract terms have to by differently enforced according to the type of contract terms.
