  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to report two cases of breast cancer patients whose side effects after Tamoxifen were treated with traditional Korean medicine. Methods: Two breast cancer patients underwent Tamoxifen after breast-conserving surgery, and both were treated with traditional Korean medicine. Subjective discomfort symptoms were evaluated using the Numerical Rating Scale. Adverse events were assessed using the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, Version 5.0. Results: After treatment with traditional Korean medicine, the discomfort symptoms that occurred after Tamoxifen, such as osteoarthritis, hot flushes, and cold sweat, all gradually improved. In addition, no hematologic, hepatic, or renal side effects were observed from the traditional Korean medicine treatment. Conclusion: This case study suggests that traditional Korean medicine may contribute to the improvement of side effects caused by Tamoxifen and enhance the quality of life of patients.

  • In recent years, the Korean Medical Association has undertaken the feat of establishing the Korean Standard Terminology of Medical Procedures with the dedicated help of 32 medical academic societies. However, because the project is being conducted by several different circles, it has yet to see a clear system of classification. This thesis, therefore, proposes the three principles of scientific properties, usefulness and ideology as the basis for classification system and has developed the Classification System of Medical Procedures in Korea upon their foundation. The methodology and organization of this thesis as follows. First, by adopting scientific classification system of Feinstein(1988), an analysis of the classification systems of the medical procedures in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, WHO was carried out to reveal the framework and the basic principles in each system. Second, the direction of classification system has been constructed by applying the normative principle of medical field in order to show the future direction of the medical field and realize its ideology. Third, a finalized framework for the classification system will be presented as based on the direction of classification system. Of the three basis principles mentioned above, the analysis on the principles of usefulness was left out of this thesis due to the difficulty of establishing specific standards of analysis. The results of the study are as follows. The overall structure of the thesis is aimed at showing the 'Prevention-Therapy-Rehabilitation' quality of comprehensive health care and consists of six chapters; I. Prevention and Health Promotion II. Evaluation and Management III. Diagnostic Procedures IV. Endoscopy V. Therapeutic Procedures VI. Rehabilitation Chapter three Diagnostic Procedures is divided into four parts : Functional Diagnosis, Visual Diagnosis, Pathological Diagnosis, Biopsy and Sampling. Chapter five Therapeutic Procedures is divided into Psychiatry, Non-Invasive Therapy, Invasive Therapy, Anaesthesia and Radiation Oncology. Of these sub-divisions, Functional Diagnosis, Biopsy and Sampling, Endoscopy and Invasive Therapy employs the anatomical system of classification. On the other hand, Visual Diagnosis, Pathological Diagnosis, Anesthesia and Diagnostic Radiology, namely those divisions in which there is little or no overlapping in services with other divisions, used the classification system of its own division. The classification system introduced in this thesis can be further supplemented through the use of the cluster analysis by incorporating the advice and assistance of other specialists.

  • The fusion research subjects of Oriental medicine and Information-Technology are actively advanced. These researches provide Oriental medicine the objectivity and support the infra to all study area of Oriental medicine. This paper considers the inside and outside of the country technical development trend of ontology research by analyzing papers and going through case study. It executed information analysis about changes to number of research papers, present state and star higher officer of research facility from the dissertation which it sees. It is known that our country research result is slight so far in quantity and quality as result of analysis. But hereafter it contains many developmental possibilities. Also it reflects the appearance and a growth of new field like bio-informatics biology. In the area of medicine, ontology used to define the terminology for information documentation and the medical terms linked up by high correlation. Also medical information system developed briskly using ontology technology. • Various materials related the names of objects were published in the late Joseon Dynasty. The medicine-related vocabulary contained in these data is important data for examining the practice of medicine at the time. Jaemulbo (Genealogy of talent and things) is a document on the names of things written by Lee Man-young in 1798. Through this study, the medical vocabulary in Jaemulbo was broadly investigated and analyzed and the following claims are made: 1. Jaemulbo provides a wealth of information on the medical terminology used in the 19th century. 2. The selection of medical vocabulary included was made according to the purpose of tools such as cultured books and dictionaries. 3. Jaemulbo is an example of using Jingyuequanshu (Whole book of Jingyue) before 1790. 4. Jaemulbo reflects the experience and knowledge of pharmacology after Donguibogam.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of combination treatment of Traditional Korean medicine (TKM) and chemotherapy on a ovarian cancer with lung metastasis patient. Methods: One ovarian cancer with lung metastasis patient was treated by TKM in conjunction with Carboplatin/paclitaxel since Feb. 2020. Repeat cycle every 3 weeks for 6 times. The patient has been treated with TKM at the same time. To evaluate the patient, symptoms were measured by Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and tumor size was measured by scanning with Computed Tomography (CT). Blood tests including cancer biomarker were conducted during treatment. Adverse events were evaluated by the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event (NCI-CTCAE), version 5.0. Results: After treatment with Carboplatin/paclitaxel and TKM during 2 months, the size of the ovarian cancer was decreased(Partial Response, PR), size and malignant pleural effusion at right lung disappeared. And no evidence of newly developed metastatic lesions. After 2 months, the tumor response was stable disease while improving the performance and other symptoms. Conclusions: This case provides us conjunctive treatment with Conventional and Eastern medicine may have substantial benefit for patients with end-stage ovarian cancer.

  • Spindle cell carcinomas of the head and neck are unusual neoplasms that are histologically biphasic, having both squamous cell carcinoma and apparently malignant spindle cell or sarcomatous element. Controversy about the histogenesis of these tumors has resulted in various terminology ; sarcomatoid carcinoma, pseudosarcoma, carcinosarcoma, and spindle cell carcinoma. The clinical course and natural history of these tumors are also variable. We report a case of 64-year-old male who complained of a neck mass. The patient was treated with extended radical neck dissection and postoperative radiotherapy, but the primary site of spindle cell carcinoma could not be found. We reviewed the clinical course, treatment, prognosis, and histogenesis of spindle cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

  • Objectives : The Comparative Study Of The Eight Extra Meridians And The Primitive Meridians Will Improve The Understanding Of The Relationship Between Meridians And The Eight Extra Meridians, Which Ultimately Will illuminate The Origins Of Meridians. Methods Books From The Pre-Han And Han Dynasty, As Well As Publications Concerning Meridians And The Eight Extra Meridians Were Utilized. Results : Pathways Of The Eight Extra Meridians And The Primitive Meridians Travel Independently Without Connection With Other Meridians, And Have No Obvious Link With The Five Vital Organs And The Six Viscera. Additionally, The Terminology Of Both Meridians Is Similar, And Travel From Bottom To Top. Conclusion : The Eight Extra Meridians Have Several Similarities With The Primitive Meridians. Therefore, The Eight Extra Meridians May Be An Important Area To Investigate In The Future.
