  • In order to cope with the changes of container terminal situation in these days, many simulation studies for container terminal have been accomplished. But previous simulation studies using simulation language have limitations in model representation and difficulties in modeling of large scaled container terminal system. To make these problems better, this paper addresses an object-oriented simulation of container terminal system using a DEVS formalism. The DEVS(Discrete Event System Specification) formalism, developed by Zeigler, supports specification of discrete event system in a hierarchical and modular manner. The formalism provides a mathematical basis for studying discrete event systems with better understood and sounder semantics. In a step of system modeling, a DEVS formalism aims at the exact system modeling that has a basis of semantics and utilizing the object-oriented manner can flexibly cope with the changes of system environment. In this study a model is developed and verified through the simulation of some alternatives.

  • There is gradually being a decrease in earnings rate of the container terminals because of worsened business environment. To enhance global competitiveness of terminal, operators of the container terminal have been attempting to deal with problems of operations through analyzing overall the terminal operations. For improving operations of the container terminal, the operators try to efforts about analyzing and utilizing data from the database which collects and stores data generated during terminal operation in real time. In this paper, we have analyzed the characteristics of operating processes and defined the event log data to generate container processes and CKO processes using stored data in TOS (terminal operating system). And we have explained how imperfect event logs creating non-normal processes are refined effectively by analyzing the container and CKO processes. We also have proposed the framework to refine the event logs easily and fast. To validate the proposed framework we have implemented it using python2.7 and tested it using the data collected from real container terminal as input data. In consequence we could have verified that the non-normal processes in the terminal operations are greatly improved.

  • This paper proposes a location-based inter-beam handover event considering terminal mobility to enhance the service quality for terminals in satellite networks. The terminal continuously measures the distance between the serving cell and neighboring cell centers, and checks whether the handover event condition is satisfied, taking into account the terminal's velocity. Performance analysis results demonstrate that the proposed location-based handover event reduces the frequency of unnecessary handover event triggering compared to the conventional received signal strength-based handover event, thereby improving the service continuity of the terminal.

  • This research considers a system which has an ultimate terminal event such as death, critical failure, bankruptcy together with a certain indicative events (temporary malfunction, special treatment, kind of defaults) that frequently occurs before the terminal event comes to the system. Some investigation of a model for the corresponding bivariate data of the system have been done with an explanation of the situation in terms of two continuous variables instead of continuous-discrete variables and some other properties. Also an analysis has been carried out to evaluate the effect of intermediate observation of occurrence of indicative event so that the result can be used for a possible suggestion of an intermediate observing schedule.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented DCS terminal remote monitoring middleware for real-time auditor and management terminal status signal with relay and fuse status at power management room. The middleware consist of four component as event analyzer, event manager, service manager and user interface. We expected economic effects extend relay life-time that pre-detected errors and prevented relay fault.

  • This paper proposes a design procedure to develop the object-oriented simulator of port container terminal. The design methodology uses an object-oriented approach to support an object-oriented simulation and the design procedure consists of object scheme and event scheme. The object-scheme is a procedure to determine the structure of material flow objects and information flow objects and a relation diagram between objects that have attributes and methods. The event scheme is a procedure to define methods and to connect messages of objects. We assume that the container terminal system consists of gate, container yard, and berth and the equipment used in the container terminal are container cranes, transfer cranes, yard tractors, and trailers.

  • Today, information technologies have been applied to operations in container terminals, and it is possible to collect operational log data due to development of equipment and operations technology. Terminal operators are collecting event log data and try to figure out the way of resolving operations problems. Operators want to analyze event logs to determine the causes of the operation problems, but it can hardly be done manually. In this paper, we suggest a formal framework to evaluate performance measures using the collected log data of operations in container terminals. The proposed formal framework supports different container terminal layout, operational processes, and equipment. Our formal framework is composed of specification of terminal layout, log data, workflow, statistics, and report, based on the concept of container handling objects. For validation of our framework, we have implemented a terminal performance analysis system based on the proposed framework.

  • In this paper, we describe about the user terminal tagging-based embarkation/disembarkation management system and embarkation/disembarkation management method using this system. The system authenticates the validity of the user and on whether to board on the ship by tagging the user's terminal which the boarding reservation was made by using the management terminal provided in the ship. The system identifies on whether the user disembark in the ship by tagging the user's terminal. In the event of ship accident, it is easy to figure out the user and manage the non-contact boarding and disembarking. Therefore, we design the embarkation/disembarkation management system based on user's terminal tagging on the terminal provided in the ship and embarkation/disembarkation management method using this system. User terminal tagging can solve the problem of manpower required for the management of embarkation and disembarkation, the problem of requiring time to confirm the match between the reservation and the passenger, and the problem of increase of the possibility on the spread of infectious diseases due to face-to-face contact.
