  • The precast prestressed concrete girders of I-type section are frequently employed to design the short-to-medium span bridge. However, its beam depth is greatly increased as its span length is increased over than about 30m. Therefore, the economic and aesthetic effectiveness are rapidly decreased in case of the span length over 30m. The purpose of this paper is to verify the structural safety on the new spliced two span bridge and analyze the variation of member forces and stress distribution according to the construction stages and time. The new spliced technique is performed by partial post tensioning and release in the U-type girders. The structural characteristics of this technique is the introduction of secondary moment to reduce the bending moment by self weight of precast U-type girders constructed in simply supported beam type. So, it is expected that the structural efficiency of this spliced bridge may be improved more than other techniques.

  • In the precast segmental method of construction, segments of a structure are precast, assembled, and tied together by post-tensioning to form the structure. Shear strength and behavior of points in precast concrete structures are important problems in the design of these structures. An experimental program was set up study the shear behavior of precast concrete shear keys. experimental models of keyed joints include a single key, representing one of a series include the shear key shape, d/h ratio(1/4, 1/5, 1/7), and inclined angle (45。 60。 75。). Two different types of joints, i.e., epoxied joint and dry joints were studied. From the present tests, it is found that epoxied joints have higher shear strength than those of dry joints, and that high d/h ratio keys have higher shear strength than those of low d/h ratio keys. The keys with 60。-inclined angle shows the highest shear strength among various angles.

  • The important factors that should be considered when designing and constructing the precast prestressed concrete pavement were investigated in this study. Those factors included traffic and environmental loads, interaction between the concrete slab and the underlying layers, determination of the slab thickness and the prestressing amount. In addition, the behaviors of the precast prestressed concrete pavement when post-tensioning was applied were analyzed using a finite element model. The effects of the number of anchors, the horizontal resistance of underlying layers, the pavement length, the slab thickness, and the bearing area of the anchorage on the distribution of compressive stresses were analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a method that can estimate the height of reaction facilities for large structural experiment through load flow as primary design procedure. The characteristic of the load transmission according to the type of experiment was analyzed to obtain tensile and compressive forces occurring on the reaction facilities. Strong walls that are affected by the bending moment is applied the post-tensioning method, and the strong floor under the control of the tension and compression is designed in accordance with the load flow. And the optimum cross-section of the reaction facilities was obtained by comparing the stresses of the tensile stress and crack the concrete. Through validating elastic analysis, the design results were satisfied a given design conditions.

  • In order to improve the constructability and meanwhile ensure excellent seismic behavior, several innovative composite connection details were conceived and studied by the authors. This paper reports experimental results and observations on seismic behavior of steel beam bolted to reinforced concrete column connections (bolted RCS or BRCS). The proposed composite connection details involve post tensioning the end plates of the steel beams to the reinforced concrete or precast concrete columns using high-strength steel rods. A rational design procedure was proposed to assure a ductile behavior of the composite structure. Strut-and-tie model analysis indicates that a bolted composite connection has a favorable stress transfer mechanism. The excellent capacity and behavior were then validated through five full-scale beam to column connection model tests.

  • A low damage self-centering braced frame equipped with post-tensioning strands is capable of directing damage to replaceable butterfly-shaped fuses. This paper investigates the seismic performance of rocking braced frame under near-field pulse-like ground motions compared to far-field records. A non-linear time history analysis is performed for twelve self-centering archetypes. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to examine the influences of ground motion types and modeling parameters. Findings represent the proper efficiency of the self-centering system under both far-field and near-field pulse-like ground motions.

  • In this study, the relation between the mtation which are usually caused by the creep of the contact wire, the bar geometry and the forces(wire tensions) for the triangle-shaped distribution bar and straight-shaped one in dependent tensioning device system is reviewed. According to the result a rotation of distribution bar in triangle-shaped one modifies the distribution of the tensions between the three wires hooked in a distribution bar. On the contrary, a rotation on the straight-shaped one leads to no tension distribution change. Therefore, to use the straight-shaped distribution bar instead of triangle-shaped one is recommended. In addition, the design contents of the distribution bar which will be used in electrification of Gyeongbu line are described in this paper.

  • In the case of thin plate blocks, buckling deformation due to longitudinal shrinkage is the most important weld-induced deformation. This paper is concerned with developing the formula to predict the longitudinal shrinkage due to welding, in which mechanical tension effect in welding direction is accounted for. For this purpose, bead on plate welding test has been carried out for the 27 thin plate specimens with varying welding conditions and magnitude of tensile load. Empirical formula of predicting the longitudinal shrinkage has been derived based on the results of welding test, in which effect of mechanical tension is included. The derived formula can be usefully used in predicting the level of tensile load to reduce the longitudinal shrinkage.

  • In this study, load transfer tests based on KCI-PS101 were conducted to verify the performance of spiral anchorage zone reinforcement for banded post-tensioning (PT) monostrands. With results, the compressive strength of spiral reinforcement was increased by about 20% than that of specimens with two horizontal steel bars and 8% than that of U-shaped bars. Advanced spiral reinforcement for corner increases compressive strength and can resist the spalling forces or fall-out effect at the corner by shear. The ratio of maximum load to amount of steel of the spiral reinforcement is about twice than that of U-shaped reinforcement. With increase of compressive strength capacity and improvement of constructability, the spiral reinforcement is considered to have advantages of promoting the performance of PT anchorage zone compared to conventional methods.

  • This Paper deals with the analysis of both unstrengthened and strengthened prestressed concrete girder bridges. Finite element method is utilized to perform the analysis of superstructures. Based on the grillage method of analysis. emphasis is Placed on the modeling techniques for structures. The conventional grillage method of analysis is modif'=ed so that the interaction between the slab and gilder behaviors can be taken into account in the analysis A Prototype of simply supported prestressed I-type girder bridge is selected for the analysis. The results of numerical analyses are compared with those of load test. The results of analysis indicate that the proposed method of analysis gives more realistic response of bridges than the conventional grillage method.
